Weak Packaging

I opened the box in the store to check if the units was good and just as many has commented in the posts, the plastic base has cracked at two locations.

Short-lived Sump Pump

Since buying a new construction home, the builder replaced two of these. Kept spraying silicone into seal for float switch because pump would keep running even if sump was empty. Two more pumps, making 5 over 10 years. Poorly manufactured and unreliable. Yes, I had the hole in the discharge pipe exactly where it was required. I finally found another sump pump that has 1/4 more HP than this one, and weighs half as much, and runs more quietly. It still operates well and shows what a mistake I was making with these original pumps.

Zoeller M98 - Poor Performance

Purchased unit in 2017, didn't install until 2020. No use 2020-2022, followed by light use in 2023 and more heavy usage in 2024. At peak in 2024, it turned on/off every 30 seconds for 1 week. Most recently, it stopped working and makes high pitch humming sound. Based on my explanation (no air lock), Zoeller said the switch is likely ok and the issue is most likely due to a bad capacitor which is not replaceable. Given limited use, it is very disappointing that the unit has failed. Will not buy this brand again.

Zoller M98 is a well built pump. Without question I would definitely recommend this pump to protect your home or business, especially if you are located in a flood zone.

Solid Performer

Recently replaced a 10 year old M98 pump that, while still working, was starting to trip the overload on my 1250W backup inverter when the power was out, not good. This was a drop-in replacement where all I needed to do was cut the pipes to the right length & re-attach.This unit is outdoors in a basement light well. We do sometimes get substantial winter rain in northern California so the old pump had a decent workout.

Float Travel Not Accurately Stated

Product specification states 6.5" of float travel. It's one of the reasons I purchased this pump. There is only 5.5" of travel. There is no adjustment that I can find.

PROVEN PERFORMANCE And Solid Construction

Replacing a still working 12 year old pump with same one. Switch began failing (sticking) in old unit, but old unit still worked. Was time to invest in a new pump. Evacuates water from shallow pit quickly and effortlessly.

Be careful of this Special Order item warranty

I had an issue with this pump under the 3-year warranty. Lowe's will accept it for only 90 days. If you need to return after 90 days you'll have problems. Lowe's says to contact Zoeller. After contacting Zoeller, they said it's supposed to be returned to Lowe's through their Special Order desk. I went back and forth with neither Lowe's or Zoeller talking to each other. Eventually, Zoeller replaced it for me, but still insisted it was supposed to be returned to Lowe's.

I bought this pump as a backup to my current sump pump. I have found over the years this manufacture of this pump produces a good quality pump at a reasonable price.When you fear that your current pump is old or might fail this is the pump you want. It's made to last for many years.
