Good
I like this crane humidifier. This is not the humidifier for an area where a curious child or pet has free run. The lid does not secure and just settles on.
Love everything about this except for the power light that NEVER goes off. All the other lights turn off after a few seconds, but not that one. Small piece of tape takes care of it, but takes away from the beautifully simple design aesthetic.
Don’t buy the crane humidifier!
I bought two humidifiers at the same time. This one, and the Paris Rhône top fill ultrasonic cool mist humidifier, PE – AH033 which was not available from Walmart, so I purchased it directly from the manufacturer. Both models have variable settings, and the same fill capacity, about one gallon. First of all, the Crane model is cheap plastic and a little bulky, whereas the Paris Rhône is sturdy and sleek in design, plus it has a handle which makes it easy to move. I ran both model simultaneously. The crane is temperamental: it doesn’t always start up, so I have to turn it on and off multiple times to kickstart it. Sometimes it will decide to switch from high low all on its own. But even when I run it on high, in the morning, it’s still about 2/3 full whereas the Paris Rhône is nearly empty. Additionally, the Crane model builds up a pinkish slimy mold quickly. I’ve had to clean it three times in as many weeks, whereas the Paris Rhone hasn’t needed any cleaning at all. I was able to get a small discount from Paris Rhone so ultimately, they both cost the same. Don’t buy the Crane model!
Absolutely perfect humidifier
There is nothing I dislike about this humidifier! Looks are pleasant enough to have set out in the house, it puts out a good amount of vapor, easy to fill, easy to clean and you can actually smell any essential oil you add to it. The only thing I added not included was a sanitizing fish. Works perfect, light is soothing but you can turn it off, and it’s quiet
Works Well
I almost didn't buy this humidifier because of some reviews. The air in our house was so dry, we ended up buying three humidifiers, two of them were this brand/model. Some reviews said it wasn't compatible with using essential oils. Some reviewers said they used essential oils but they couldn't even detect the scent, and one said they used oils and the humidifier stopped working. I think these people may have put the oils directly into the water. I found out oils cannot be added to the water in this machine, luckily before I did it myself. The way to use oils is to buy pre-scented pads that you put into the slot directly below the vent on the lid in this humidifer or make your own. I took a piece of gauze and scented it with lavender oil. I put the gauze square in the slot under the lid of the humidifier and when I started it, I could immediately smell the oil. In fact, I've used much less every time I've used it since because it was almost overwhelming. I do like the lights, especially when I run the machine at night but they can be turned off. I could feel a marked difference in the air within 15 minutes of using this humidifier for the first time. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and so far, I'm very happy with it.
White dust everywhere
Initially, we were very happy with it as is it easy to operate and humidifies well. However, after a few weeks, we noticed that strange white dust was collecting everywhere in our house, even on vertical surfaces like mirrors and furniture. After researching online and rereading the instruction booklet, we realized this is a calcium deposit. Now we understand why our cat is sneezing and I have ongoing runny eyes and sniffles. The instructions say to use distilled water if this happens. There is no way we are willing to buy (and lug home) a big jug every day. We live in a medium-sized city and the water is not particularly hard. We are returning ours today, hopefully for a full refund.
Highly highly recommend!
I can’t say enough good things about this humidifier. It runs basically silent. It holds a large about of water so I can get a full nights rest plus more without having to refill it. It is super easy to clean. I got this because the rooms in my house are very large, and this was able to humidify a 1,200 square foot space in my home easily. If you are thinking about buying this product, do it!
Unreliable
In the beginning it worked great. Lots of mist and I was refilling the tank often with distilled water. It had a great mist whether I used the high or low setting. I loved the night light too.
Good Investment!
We bought the Crane 1.2 gallon humidifier about a week ago. It's quiet! You can't hear it running. Fill it up in the morning and let it go until time to refill late in the evening or the next morning. We have allergies, and it has made a difference. The size of the tank is great. there are smaller ones you have to refill consistently. It automatically shuts off when empty, so all in all, great humidifier!
[Rewarded Review] Slime/mold after a week with distilled water
Very quiet operation and a neat night light affect where the top lid glows (multicolor) from the LED light inside. Easily lasts all night and then some with the capacity. Easy to clean and this is my only complaint, it seems to harbor reddish colored mold/slime when you use it for more than a week. We always use distilled bottled water and this has not been a normal thing for the previous units in the past. Not sure why this one decided to slime up after a week of use. We will be taking it back due to that. However, if you are the type of person to clean this often, then I recommend it.
we've been using this in our home have had no complaints. It is really easy to set up instructions are included and easy to follow ' it has a 1.2 gallon tank we use a gallon water bottle to refill it therefor it super easy to refill . You can add your choice of scented oils, we ( use Lavender at night ) before refilling it is so easy to clean wipe down any residue. This humidifier does not make any loud sounds. While it is powered on the noise is quite low , the device is not heavy but sturdy. The light function turns on or off , the lighting smoothly transitions different colors . It has been so helpful in our rooms with the littles stuffy noses , and for adults it has been a relief . I found our experience with this humidifier quite enjoyable. Definitely thumbs up
Poor Quality Humidifier
I purchased this humidifier April 2021. It worked fine for the first year. After that, it's been acting up consistently. It gets very noisy. Loud hum and sometimes a rattle. "Not whisper quiet" at all. I did email Crane and ask about it and they said to expect some noise from it. However then it's not "whisper quiet" whereas it started out pretty quiet. Now the past couple months it's barely throwing out any mist. It will then it won't. Mostly won't. I clean it regularly by following the instructions. Not quite two years of 'use' from it and it will be thrown away. I just purchased a different brand. Due to my experience with Crane Humidifiers, I can not recommend it.
Requires Distilled Water
Our furnace filter plugged up after less than 1 month of use due to I'm assuming the white dust that was created by not using distilled water. Called furnace repairman to check our furnace out. It was going into over temperature and shutting down due to plugged air filter. He asked if we had a humidifier. He has seen filters plug up before due to the white dust. Did not have this issue with a warm mist humidifier. Just a FYI to watch out for. We have inline house water filter as well. Will go back to a warm mist dehumidifier which also humidifies more quickly.
Works great, large reservoir
This product has a nice large reservoir so even on the high setting it will run for 10 hours without refill. I like the fact that it senses when the water level is low and automatically shuts off. I puts a lot of moisture into the room so I usually run it on high for a two hours and then reduce it to low. If I run it on high too long the humidity gets up to 70% which is way too high. I only use it at night for sleeping to supplement my furnace humidifier which is not working the way it did last year for some reason. I would have given it five stars but it has some overzealous instructions on cleaning it daily and weekly with vinegar. I have no intentions of doing that. I use water that has been softened and then put through a Reverse Osmosis Filter so I'm hoping that cleaning is not necessary. I have been using it for two weeks and it is clean as whistle so far.
This was the third one of these I have...
This was the third one of these I have purchased. I LOVE the first one. Great output, small footprint, and best of all SO easy to clean ! The reason for less than 5 stars is all units do not appear to be of comparable quality. This one did not have as much output especially when full. Sometimes it seemed to have almost no mist so it was returned. The second one I purchased was not as great as the first but still good. My only conclusion ( guess) is that the transducer quality as been compromised. My recommendation? Since it is so easy to clean and you might get a good one, purchase one or two and see if one of them will work for you.
Run away from this humidifier; and run away fast!
To alleviate dry air in our small home, my husband and I purchased this Crane cool mist top fill humidifier, and ran it day and night. We only used 3-stage filtered water. It worked well to increase humidity, and we shrugged off the heavy amount of dust it produced as being simply a housekeeping chore. How wrong we were! Within a week we both began coughing; Covid tests proved negative. No other symptoms to suggest a viral or bacterial infection. Prior to this episode, both of us were healthy, and neither of us had any preexisting respiratory conditions. My husband continued to work outside the home, and his cough stabilized while mine increased to the point where I developed pneumonitis. It wasn’t until 3 weeks of suffering that it dawned on me - my condition was worse than my husband’s because I was home 24/7 (due to my worsening cough)!! Unwittingly, and constantly, I was breathing in air that was visibly contaminated with mineral dust created by the Crane humidifier. Obviously, once we connected the dots, we unplugged the infernal thing and thankfully saw rapid improvements in our coughs. Since we were just a couple of days outside HD’s 30 day return period, I contacted Crane directly, explained our experience and simply requested a refund or return. OMG, I have no words for their response; customer service is a completely foreign concept to them. Long story short, save your health and your sanity and do not buy the Crane ultrasonic humidifier. It is downright dangerous, and you will have no recourse.
Holy grail humidifier
I have dry skin and winter does a number on my hydration levels so humidifiers are an absolute necessity for 4+ months of the year. I can’t count how many I’ve tried over the years, but in my experience most are more complex than they need to be. I had a crane I loved and lost a few years ago and since it had been discontinued I purchased this one last year hoping it would live up to the hype. I loved it so much I just bought a second one for my living area. I haven’t used the essential oil function, mostly because I don’t want to deal with the cleaning of it but it seems like it would be effective. There aren’t any extra mechanisms or doohickeys (apparently I’m 100) to complicate the operation of the device, just does what it says on the tin.
Best yet!
This is by far the best room humidifier that I have ever used and I have had several over the years. However, there is one small problem that I can live with. I bought my first one several weeks ago and it performed very well, so well that I bought a second one for another room.
Love It, after return.
We are now really enjoying the features of this humidifier but had to return it twice. The first one was great for the first few days then it started to make a chatter noise during the night. Crane said it was probably the float and we should return it. The second one was very quiet all night but it wouldn't mist properly, only sporadic misting and the tub was still about 3/4 full by morning. I was embarrassed to have to return it the second time but this device had all the features we wanted: low power usage, no filter, essential oil compatible, cool mist, large water tank, low maintenance and an optional night light. I was sure that we were just unlucky with the first two. The store I bought it from said that they would not accept a third exchange. Personally, I feel I should be able to return a device a hundred times if I need to and a battle would have ensued if a third humidifier would have been faulty and necessary to replace. Crane is a good name. When I contacted them, they were helpful and eager to make me a content customer. Our third device is wonderful and what we needed in a compact humidifier. We turn it on at about 7:30 and let it run quietly all night till we get up. We have no dry throat or cough when we get up and is really what the doctor ordered. The only thing we have found with this particular device on all three that we had is that you can never fill the tub to the maximum level line. All it will do is bubble water with no mist. You will need to fill water to about an inch below the maximum fill mark but still lots of moisture added to your room.
Great features for a humidifier!
I was so excited to get to try out the Crane Cool Mist Top Fill Humidifier and Diffuser. During the winter months in the midwest we always wake up congested and often with dry noses. Adding a humidifier to our bedroom helped to alleviate these winter side effects. It was a little bigger than I had envisioned but I realized it is because it is for Medium to Large rooms when I had previously been used to smaller Crane products. The top fill feature was super easy to use. We filled it up in our attached bathroom via the bath tub and I wasn't worried about dripping water as I brought it back to my room. I adore that it has the option to be used as a diffuser. We have added our favorite holiday scents to make our home feel even cozier. My kids were fascinated by the color changing light option, which is great to act as a night light. The instructions recommend that you not use on certain surfaces so we placed it on a flat plate to protect our wood dresser. Overall the controls on the front are easy to understand and use. We'll probably move it more permanently to a larger room and will likely utilize the diffuser option a lot!
