TERRIBLE COOKTOP
THIS IS A TERRIBLE COOKTOP.
Terrible warranty, stay away
Right side burners stopped working after 2 years. No longer in warranty, replacement part is $400-500, about half the cost of the thing. Not going to bother, who knows what else will fail with regular use. If I go with another induction I will be for sure doing more research/getting a better warranty.
Steer clear
I am extremely dissatisfied with this unit. After multiple repairs, the unit is very unreliable. It seems that without full coverage of a pad, the unit simply does not sense the presence of the pot or pan and will not activate that pad. This has lead to extreme frustration when cooking having to use oversized pots and make sure everything is properly positioned to make this work. I don't know if this is an induction issue or if this unit is simply poorly engineered. I would NEVER buy this product again and will very likely be replacing it. Very expensive lesson learned.
Believe what you hear about induction
On the recommend of a friend I have been looking for a way to try induction technology. I found a closeout GE Profile cooktop just as I moved into a rental and replaced the radiant cooktop with induction. JUST WOW. It is so fast and easy to use. Intuitive controls and even a built-in timer.
Size of 2 medium burners
We got the 4 burner induction stove top…30 inches. We bought a new set of beautiful Caraway cookware. The 3 quart, 8 inch diameter does not work wi these pans despite it completely covering the burner “circle”. With 2,site visits and a visit from the appliance store technicians, and change in junction box it still does not work. I had a 5 burner stovetop prior to the devastation of Hurricane Ian. It ended up being replaced with the 4 burner (not what I ordered) and I do not like it nearly as much. Also the surface scratches much easier than the one I had before despite using approved stove top cleaners.
Simple and efficient
We love how this cooktop responds with quick heating, and lowering the temp is just as quick. Such a great improvement over traditional electric cooktops. I have to remind myself how hard gas burners are to clean up when things boil over and I’m complaining about the scraping and polishing that are sometimes required with any glass cooktop. The only thing I would change about this cooktop is that the size of the largest burner seems too large for any pan, and if it were smaller there might be room for a very small 5th burner.
Can not heat two pots side by side
If you want to use two burners side by side, it refuses to connect. I am trying to use the smallest burner to cook some rice while at the same time use the biggest burner for a frying pan. They work great individually, but as soon as I turn on the big frying pan it overpowers the small burner and it stops connecting to the pot and just turns off. Kind of annoying because my small pot does not work on any other burner.
Induction convert
We have had our induction unit 1 day. Instant boil for pasta, perfect French toast and fried eggs. Clean up is a breeze. We were gas die-hards, but I wanted the greener, more health conscious, fire-free option with my kids learning to cook and an easy clean up for me with our kitchen remodel. I’m impressed. My husband wanted to be able to still use our cast-iron pans which we used this morning. Worked like a charm. I guess we are team induction now.
Nice clean simple look, responsive
I had another induction stovetop before, which had more power, bells and whistles. however it died after 13 yrs of light use. That company no longer makes that unit.
Need right size pots and hard to clean
We have had the stovetop for about a month now and are relatively happy. It is easy to use and heats up very quickly. There are two issues. We knew before we purchased it that the only pots and pans that can be used are those that are magnetic. What we did not know is that, in addition, the pots and pans have to be the same size as, or bigger than, the burner you put it on, or the stove will not heat up. We cannot use our small pots and pans because they are slightly smaller than the smallest burner. The other issue is cleaning the stove top. You have to use a special cream cleaner, spread it around with a soft cloth and then buff long and hard to get rid of streaks. When there is cooking grease on the stove top I feel like I am simply spreading it around rather than actually cleaning it up. Also, contrary to the impression I had from the marketing material, food can harden on the parts of the stove top that do not get hot. The cleaner comes with a device that has a razor blade on it to get off hardened food. The likelihood of scratching the stovetop with that razor blade is high. So far I have been afraid to use it and instead have have very carefully used a scrubby pad that also comes with the cleaner. The bottom line is that you can eventually get the stovetop clean, but it takes a lot of careful work.
Definitely Bad Experience with GE Profile
We bought our brand new house in 2009, including upgraded GE Profile appliances. In 2012, it wasn't clear if our cooktop caused (or not) a fired that cost our insurance company way over $100K in repairs to our house. At that time in 2012, we bought once again all GE Profile appliances. End of 2020, two of our cooktop burners had a portion that stopped working. Here we are again buying a new GE Profile Induction cooktop in February 2021 to replace the broken one. Not 4 months into this new cooktop, one burner does not get as hot or as quickly hot as when we bought it and now it is turning off in the middle of cooking. On top of it, our GE Profile dishwasher's door needs work, cause it got something loose and doesn't hold open unless it's all the way open, it actually slams down all the way. Our GE Profile microwave's turn plate stays running when we open the door until we close it and it has been repaired before as well as our GE Profile fridge. So, this is the last GE appliances we will acquire, unless GE offers them to us to try/test them for free and they'd have to provide all kitchen appliances at once. We are definitely not wasting more of our money on this brand.
Fast heat, annoying controls
The stove provides super fast heat, and cleaning it is very simple, since you can just wipe the whole surface. The thing that we don't love is that the touch panel is a little finicky. Sometimes if your fingers are cold and dry, or if they're covered in flour or something, it doesn't respond. If you get a drop of water (like something splashes that you're cooking) or if you wipe over the controls or set something down on them, it will cause the stove to do something, whether that's turn on a burner or shut everything down. That all might be worth it for the ease of cleaning though.
Super Fast Heating
I am so delighted to finally have my new cooktop installed. Because it is induction, I was unsure if my existing pans would work or not, so I was testing by boiling water. A sauce pan of water similar to what I would use for macaroni and cheese boiled in less than 3 minutes! I cooked the first meal on it (mashed potatoes in a stainless steel pan and pork chops and a delicate sauce in cast iron pans) and found it had excellent temperature control throughout. I was able to maintain a rolling boil as easily as I was a low simmer.
Fast!
There is a lot to like about this cooktop. It is very fast to heat up whatever you are cooking, and the surface is easy to clean. What I do not like: I got the cooktop with the stainless borders, and at least one of the exposed corners is poorly fitted and very sharp. I wish I had gotten the plain surface with no stainless borders for this reason. The cooktop was installed raised on a gasket above the counter top around 1/8 - 1/4", supposedly to protect from impact forces. I was not expecting this void, which looks like it will collect accumulations of spilled, dried food. I asked about caulking, and was told this can be done, but it sounds tricky. Inherent to all ceramic cooktops (I imagine - this is my first one), pans slide around quite a bit and you have to watch to stay on the circle.
Love!
I love my new cooktop. The burner placement is so much better than my previous cooktop. It allows for better use of all eyes at once, where as my previous wasn’t conducive to that as each of the 4 eyes were lined up 2 and 2. If yours has that setup, you know that unless you’re using the smallest size pots/pans on all burners that you can’t actually fit 4 pans on them at once.
Improvement Over Electric Cooktop
We had an electric cooktop that cracked and replaced it with this induction model. The induction cooktop heats up much faster than the electric cooktop we used to have. It also cools down faster. The surface is easier to clean if water spills because the surface only remains hot if it detects a magnetic surface. This model contains a bridge, allowing me to use a large cast iron griddle on one half of the cooktop. This is definitely an improvement over an electric cooktop. There are, however, three major drawbacks in my mind. First, the heater will turn off if you remove a pan from the surface (which makes it difficult to pick a pan up and shake it to make a heating sauce cover the pan). Second, this particular model does not have heating elements with adjustable sizes unlike my old electric cooktop. Third, and this is an issue with both electric and induction cooktops, the cooktop is much more difficult to clean than a gas cooktop or one with coils, and the cooktop requires constant cleaning attention to prevent scratches and cracks.
Outstanding Cooktop
This induction cooktop has worked flawlessly and is very efficient. First, tested all of our cookware to ensure it was induction compatible. Had to purchase some additional cookware, making sure it was of good quality. The unit is the best electric cooktop we have ever used. The temperature is well controlled, from simmer to boiling water, and is very sensitive to adjustments. I find it very similar to cooking with gas appliances. Reading the instructions and using the 'Lock' feature allowed cleaning the cooktop without turning on any "burners" as was noted by other reviewers. Also have not noticed much noise, just a quiet humming. However, I am using quality cookware as recommended in the operating instructions. Cleaning is a chore, but it is no different than other glass cooktops. Reason I marked down quality is that the baffle holes did not line up requiring me to drill new holes. Should have been caught by QA. All in all, I am completely satisfied.
Induction Cooktop failed after 4 years
My second GE Profile induction cooktop, PHP9030DJ2BB, was recently installed. I purchased my first GE Profile induction cooktop in 2014 during a kitchen remodel. During the first 4 years of ordinary use, the cooktop met my expectations. However, immediately into its 5th year of use the cooktop started shutting off after working for about 5 minutes whether using one or multi units. Restarting the units was rarely successful as usually they would shut off again after a few minutes. Continually restarting a unit eventually became impossible with an E code cooktop error. A certified GE repairman from the appliance store where the cooktop was purchased accessed the situation and after multiple calls to GE support reported that the fix would cost $2,000. Of course, I chose not to make a repair which would cost more that the retail price of the item. Replacing the cooktop was my only option. I researched other brands but learned there is currently a total induction cooktop recall on two major brands. The cutout on my granite countertop did not match any of the other available brands. That left no option but to replace my 5 year old failed GE Profile induction cooktop with another GE Profile induction cooktop. I am terribly disappointed in the quality of this GE product. Thus far I have not encountered problems with the other GE appliances installed during the remodel but have little confidence in the inducti
Great heat control
I have been using a radiant glass-top cooktop for 15 years. I recently switched to this new induction stovetop because the old heating elements were weakening. I love the control I have with the Induction - it's like gas in that the temp changes immediately so I can control the simmer with precision! And it heats up 20 times faster! Another benefit is there is no emittance of heat outside the perimeter of the pan. In other words, the heat stays only under the pan, even on a larger burner. There are just 2 downsides...1) I had to buy new (magnetic) pans and 2) I thought I would love the sleek electronic controls (no knobs) but when I wipe up little spills when I'm cooking I inadvertently turn off the controls! Just the slightest wipe over the controls turns everything off. That part is annoying as I like to clean up as I cook. I still prefer this over the old radiant style and would recommend it.
Became sad today
I purchased the PHP9030DJBB cooktop June 30, 2019. It was delivered July 30th. And installed in August. I have enjoyed the ease and use of this product and purchased new post & pans with full induction capabilities. I have also used the Cerama Bryte cooktop cleaner because it leaves the cooktop looking great as it is part of my main island. However yesterday, cleaning up after a dinner party I noticed an area that could not be cleaned and discovered that the glass appears to be shattered in a small area. I have not investigated warranty or repair services because today is Sunday. My hope is that it is repairable at a minimum cost because it was one of my more expensive purchases during my kitchen remodel. Although I cannot explain what happened, I would like to caution all purchasers of any brand to take caution during use especially if others might possibly be using it. Unable to upload photo.
