Great fans! I got one of these for my kitchen a year ago and love it so I bought 2 more to replace older fans in bedrooms. They are so quiet that you don't even hear them at all on the lower speeds! They also give off plenty of light.
Did what it said. Low profile. No remote control. It is ment to be two switch controlled. A bit of a pain to assemble, but worth it. Ballance out of the box.
I love my new Hunter Builder Low Profile ceiling fan! To my relief, it's very quiet. The 42" 5-bladed fan is very effective in cooling my bedroom. The remote is a real luxury as I don't have to get up to change the speed or mode anymore!
A solid fan from a great company. The price was outstanding for such a solid ceiling fan. No shaking or rattling from this fan at the highest speed. Great value for sure!
Dangerous. Getting rid of two of them.
As others have pointed out, the threaded screws holding the glass globes in place are perilous. Beyond that, the fans wobble horribly. Upon removing the first one, there are only two screws that secure it to a brace installed on the ceiling fan box.
It looks lovely installed; nice and snug to the ceiling. The "base" that attaches to the ceiling is quite large, but blends in fine once installed. It was definitely a do-it-yourself total assembly. Instructions were good, little baggies of parts were well marked and easy to identify. Quite the feat to get all those little screws in while looking up. It helped having one person to stabilize the blades at some points.
It will do for now
I purchased this fan to replace a broken Hunter fan that we had for several years in our bedroom. We purchased our original fan we are having to replace in 2006. Some of the plastic zip ties in the mechanism had gotten so old that they were cracking and pieces were making noise in the motor. We tried to fix the problem and couldn’t, so I searched for a replacement. This was the closest to our old fan I could find, but it still isn’t the same. We hung the fan and although it was easy to hang, it is just suspended up on the ceiling and if the fan is not perfectly level, it wobbles on high speed. It really isn’t the quality of our old fan and doesn’t look exactly the way I was wanting it to look, but I suppose it will do until I find one that I like better. I guess I would say that most brands have lowered the quality of the products they are selling as opposed to products they sold years ago.
I replaced a previous Hunter ceiling fan that I loved, but had dimmer lighting. This fan is bright, light, and the fan seems more powerful. I love it!. Home Depot shipped to home, and I received the fan in 2 days! I had it installed and installer said this was easy to install. I already had ceiling support, so it was a remove and replace without too much support. I think this fan, although light, would need that ceiling support for smooth, quiet operation, I recommend it!
51090 was an easy installation and functions well.
This year was difficult finding a "classic" looking fan, but I found this one. The factory packing was done well, the parts were clearly labeled and the directions were easy to follow. This fan was a replacement to an existing fan, however, the existing electrical box was not rated for fan mounting and had to be replaced. Removing the old fan, replacing the electrical box, then installing this new fan took me 2.5 hours. This fans mounting bracket design is a huge improvement to the older 80's/90's, where once the bracket is securely mounted to the box, the fan motor can be hung from the bracket while you wire it up, so an assistant isn't required. Most of the effort was in replacing the electrical box and the mounting bracket itself, the rest of the install was easy. My only caution is make sure you have the mounting bracket to the box flush with the ceiling. The fan is designed were the light fixture must be wired in to test the fan motor, which was an unnecessary extra step in my opinion. After fully installing the fan and performing a wobble test I was impressed no balancing weights were required for me. If it wasn't for the old fan and box replacement, the fan itself from box to install takes about 30 minutes.

We had two professionally installed. We followed the recommendations for room size fan blade length. But they don't move enough air to cool upstairs rooms. The installers had to do lengthy effort to balance the fans. Even the installers thought it was a poor performer "even though Hunter is normally a good brand." They were embarrassed for me and told me --if it was them, they would return them. Feeling like I wasted a LOT of money on these.
Incorrect information. NOREMOTE INCLUDED.
There is NOT a remote included and it appears that there is not a reciever to operate a remote included. Can be added seperatly. See below from the description.
Hunter ceiling fan/light
I'm going to buy another Hunter unit for my dining room. Here in upstate NY I seldom need to use air conditioning after installing ceiling fans. Highly recommend them and at 83 years old installation went well by myself. Just follow the instruction manual and most people could do it. Top quality unit, very well built, runs almost silently and good appearance. A***** The three 7(40) watt LED bulbs are VERY bright. I'm going to replace them.
A Good Buy when needing a flush mounted type fan
This Hunter fan was fairly easy to install. The fan had sufficient space for the electrical wires to be without overflowing beyond the section they were in. The instructions were easy to follow. We had a bad experience with a different brand so we traded the other brand for a Hunter and we were so glad we did. We just installed the fan about one week ago so we can not provide any insight as to how long and effective the fan with light is.
LED Light Kit Goes Bad after 1 Year
The fan itself is fine, but does have a lifetime warranty if there are any issues. I have not experienced any issues with the fan, but the Light Kit became not functioning after 1.5 years. 4.5 Watt LED bulbs were installed in the light kit, but the Wattage Limiter (Y59 R 130C) burned out after 1.5 years. If you simply search Y59 R 130C on the internet, multiple videos and webpages discussing this issue will come up. I spoke with Hunter Fan customer service and it is a common problem, but they offered no other solution than buying a new light kit through them for about $30 or a 35% coupon. Since this is a common problem documented by several homeowners, I figured that the replacement light kit would have the same problem. I would not recommend buying this product if you want to use the light kit.

I bought one of these fans and two of a different model from Hunter because of Hunter's great reputation. I hired professional installers to install it.

Unable to rate the fans at the present time. The rooms were the fans are to be installed has not been completed. Fans were received in excellent condition. All the parts were included. This style fan was chosen because it was a ceiling 'hugger' and the 3 single light fixtures give a better lighting spread for the room. Have a globe type light in another room and it puts out poor illumination. Have 2 other Hunter fans for about 10-15 years and have had no problem with them.

Would not recommend, since it does not install as easily as other hunter fans with the ball and socket mount. This fan is supported by a flimsy square hanger box that attaches to the fan electrical box. The hanger must be perfectly level in both directions or the fan will not hang in the center of the motor housing. This is not mentioned in the instructions. The square sheet metal hanger box requires adjustment to make the motor hanger fit level and securely in the hanger box. Other low profile Hunter fans were purchased in the past with the ball and socket design, so I am not sure how to choose a Hunter fan with the ball and socket design in the future.

I ordered two fans, and they were easy to install and are working well. I would have given them 5 stars but Home Depot sent me the same fans but what i am assuming is that they were from two different years. They were in two different boxes and one had a LED light kit and one had the old style light kit. I did not have the time to chase back to a Home Depot as they were ordered online and sent to my condo in Florida. I now have to have two different light bulbs on hand instead of one. Also I am not having the energy saving of LED at one fan.
Hunter 51090 Low Profile Builder
Where do I start....First off-----The ceiling bracket had to be modified because the slots were not cut narrow enough to fit a standard ceiling fan electrical box. Real pain!!! Secondly...the wire nuts were too big and would not grab the wires (used my own). Thirdly...the fan hung crooked (off center) from my flat level ceiling. I had to shim one side of the mounting block to get it to center in the housing. Real pain!!!! Fourthly...the screws to lock the motor in the bracket were too short. Had to use my own longer screws.
