perfect little pan
love love love it. Perfect for beyond sausage patties for breakfast. I follow the instructions exactly, wash with soap and water, dry, then apply a thin layer of cooking oil (a oil with a high smoke point like canola, peanut, or avocado oil). It's amazing. Frozen patties don't stick to the pan. Cooks all the way through and evenly, unlike every other pan I own. Oil doesn't burn so I use it to flavor grits after done making the sausages. Can't wait to try it with other things.
I like cooking with cast iron. It does not have any Teflon to scratch off and it evenly distributes the heat.
Very good
I bought this to replace my non-stick pan because health reasons blah blah. It's about big enough to fry 3 eggs simultaneously. It does a good job, and theoretically should perform better after it's seasoned more through cooking, making it's less-stick properties more effective. So far so good. Just keep in mind the maintenance required for cast iron and the added weight.
I love, love, love this Lodge cast iron skillet, so much so that I purchased on for my daughter as well. It comes seasoned, so can cook immediately on it and I cook eggs on it every morning, they do not stick to the bottom. I continue to season the cast iron after every use. I would definitely recommend this to my friend and family
Best iron skillet for 1 or 2 people
I needed a smaller cornbread skillet. The one I was using is the size larger %26 I was always throwing out leftover cornbread that I didn't freeze for stuffing. I found this 1 size smaller skillet and it's the perfect size for 1 or 2 people. It does say that it is pre-seasoned. But my 1st batch of cornbread did stick. But after I seasoned it once myself, it falls right out now.
a little rough. Lodge 6-in
it's a nice little pan, however, the insides pretty rough and there's a couple pitting areas. hopefully it may eventually season properly. I'll keep my fingers crossed. just expected Little bit smoother inside finish since it's a Lodge. we'll see what happens with it.
Great first skillet
Bought this for my mum for Mother's Day as she's always wanted a cast iron skillet. Is a great skillet for those who haven't used one before. Is so convenient that it is pre-seasoned, although we did season it ourselves too before using.
Make cooking fun again With an American Classic!
Thank you to the Walmart Team. Delivery in 2 days! We used the pan right away! Perfect size. Make each hamburger fresh, hot and ready to eat. Even better, this pan makes cooking an enjoyable experience, because each family member can make their own burger or meal their way! No more complaints! We used the larger Lodge pans for years but it's great to have this size too. Worth every penny at a steal of a price! Very happy with this purchase from Walmart! They really care to get this out to you ASAP!
Want cornbread?
I used to have one like this. I couldn’t cook anything else in it or cornbread would stick the next time. Well I was craving cornbread one night. The recipe on the corn meal was for buttermilk cornbread. I never buy that so I thought I’ll replace it with regular milk. WRONG -lesson learned. I followed all the instructions to a tee, preheated to pan in the oven and such. I guess I failed to oil the sides well because it stuck there and right in the center. I was like it’s just for me so I don’t care if it’s broken up. Was sooo ready for it - took a big bite and had to run to the trash can and get rid of that bite. I thought I’d try some of the side crust. Nope same taste. Soooo I get a very small container of buttermilk. Making progress, right? Best laid plans. I got a stomach bug so severe I had to get an ambulance to take me to the hospital. No cornbread. Yesterday afternoon, I thought I’d make it. I opened the refrigerator and lo and behold the buttermilk expired 5 days ago. Tossed it unopened. It must have been good for only a day or so when it was delivered.
Love it!
Perfect sized small pan! I seasoned it three times on the stovetop before using it. Clean it with just water, and then add apply a little fresh oil. Perfectly non stick! Even for fried and scrambled eggs. Very pleased with this pan!
perfect
i bought this as a gift because I already have one that I absolutely love! It's perfect for everything and requires very little maintenance. It's great for everything from eggs to steaks. I use my cast iron pans from Lodge repeatedly. I think my sister will be just as happy as I am with it!
So far awesome skillet
Day 1 awesome skillet. Even though they sell it seasoned, I only trust myself to do the seasoning. Two reasons: 1) as the skillet hangs on store shelves, it's unknown how clean the surface is. even if the factory seasons it, it can still technically oxidize a little bit. 2) they glue the label on the worst spot! good grief! when you get the pan home your first chore is removing that sticky glue. After removing that glue the spots where it was on will be rougher. so i just used some soap, water and soft side of the sponge to clean it. Then i evaporated the water on the stove. Once it was dry, I spread a thin coat of avocado oil all over it, making sure to wipe off excess. Then it went in, upside down, to a 500F oven for 1 hour (fans on, windows open). Then I allowed it cool for 1 hour. When it was time to cook, i pre-heated for 5 minutes on medium, threw in 1 Tbsp of butter, then cracked in the egg. It fried up quickly and had no trouble sliding!! Dont be afraid to cook with butter... it's not like you're going to eat all of the butter you use for lubricating the pan. This surface was way more nonstick than previous "nonstick" ceramic pans. I hope this pan lasts me for generations.
Love this little lodge skillet
This is perfect cooking for 1. Easier to handle for 64 f. Cast irion is the best. Stole this little pan fromy grandson in a White Elephant Christmas game and use it often. Clean with mild soap and non wire scrubber, dry, heat in oven, season with oil. Never soak cast iron, as one unsatisfied reviewer claimed they did. The inside bottom of mine is a little rough but the one I bought for a gift this Christmas is smooth. I still love mine but it might be a little better to have smooth. Both were bought at Walmart.
Poor quality
The inside surface is loaded with sharp needle surface. I have sanded the surface, used a drill with metal, abrasive, brush. Nothing helped much. Too rough to fry an egg. Or cook cornbread. I went to the store to see what else Walmart had. All the skillets seem to have an exact same problem with needles inside My purchase was the 8 inch size. I did not return it because too much time had passed and I thought I could sand/file it down.
I wanted a small non-toxic pan to cook small servings,...
I wanted a small non-toxic pan to cook small servings, such as one egg, so I wouldn’t have to use my 10-inch carbon steel pan. This is my first cast iron pan, and I love it! I threw out all my toxic Teflon pans and have been researching which pans are the safest to use. I already had a set of stainless steel cookware but am now adding cast iron and carbon steel to my collection. I had to make a few small adjustments using these types of pans, including heating up the pan for a few minutes before cooking (without oil) and then lowering the flame when adding the food, Also, I only use water to wash the pans, then dry thoroughly and apply a thin layer of avocado or olive oil. I can’t leave the pan soaking in the sink overnight like I can with my stainless steel cookware or else it will rust. The food usually comes off easily, but if anything sticks (like melted cheese sometimes), I just fill the pan with a little water and easily scrape off the hard bits. This 6.5” pan is not heavy at all and is very sturdy. The handle does get hot so use a pot holder or a silicone handle cover. I really enjoy cooking with this pan, especially knowing it is non-toxic!
Good
Arrived without damage. Very little sticking when cooking meat if you preheat on low (glass top stove), keep it on low, and then add a bit of oil. Produces a good searing on almost the entire surface of a steak. Hand washes easily with hot water and a drop of Dawn. Stores well if you towel try completely and immediately. I run a drop of oil onto the cooking surface and then wipe it with a paper towel to remove excess oil, while leaving a slight shine on the surface to protect the iron. Just note that cast iron is heavy and wear an oven mitt when touching the handle. I like that it’s made in USA and oven safe. 8” is a good size for cooking one person quantities of food. Cast iron is a lot heavier than other materials.
A Family Tradition
As I said about the 10-1/4" skillet - the 8" is perfect and you'll find many needs. I give both sizes to all my grandchildren who are getting married. The 8" is perfect for one pkg of cornbread mix and for some recipes of homemade cornbread. It's perfect for a couple of eggs, or for grilled cheese sandwiches. There are many uses for the 8". The 10-1/4 is a perfect size for your meat dish or for Mexican Cornbread or homemade french fries, fried chicken or pork chops, etc. After a couple of kids, you need to add the 12". Those three skillets are all you'll ever need. I love the fact my grandchildren will have these skillets forever even long after I'm gone. I give them for that reason also. I love Lodge as it's the best and at Walmart, it's also the best price!`
Mighty Little Skillet
This is the perfect skillet for one or two people. Even though it is pre-seasoned, food will most likely stick the first few times you use it. Be patient and plan to use a small bit of muscle to clean it the first 5-6 times. The payoff will be a wonderful, small pan that doesn’t weigh much, becomes virtually non-stick after several uses and cooks food to absolute perfection. The skillet heats quickly and is perfect for eggs, steaks, boneless chicken and most anything you want. It is best to stay away from tomato based products because of the acid in tomatoes, but that is the only limitation that I know of. The more you use it, the better it gets. As an added bonus won’t be ingesting cancer causing agents and you have a skillet that will last a lifetime and then some at a very reasonable cost. I was initially worried that the pan may be too small but I have found it more than meets my needs and has become my favorite skillet. I also have a 10 inch and 12 inch that I use when I have visitors.
Perfect for Individual Dutch Babies
My recipe for Dutch Babies makes enough for two! Now with two 6" cast iron skillets, I can make two individually sized servings!
