Effective and lovely!

After purchasing a "squirrel proof" feeder that was decidedly NOT, I found this lovely metal feeder with a top that locks with an easy twist! Seeds are caught in the bottom tray, and the metal cage is small enough to keep grey squirrels out. Love it!

Pretty but 2 problems

The worst problem is trying to take the feeder apart to clean. We have rain in the Northwest and seeds swell up and get stuck in the bottom of the feeder, turning mouldy and unhealthy. I have taken the bottom off but there is no exit for a mouldy lump of seed. Any suggestions?

NOT SQUIRREL PROOF!

My husband took photos of the squirrel flattened down to fit into the open spaces around the top of the feeder - and eating every drop of the small food (for finches & wrens)!!! He tried putting wire around the top - and they bit thru it. Now he is using coat-hanger wire. Those squirrels are trickier than we all THOUGHT! :(

Attractive Squirrel Jail

Visually appealing bird feeder. However, the curved openings at the top allow crafty squirrels to get inside, chow down, and then they get stuck. Had to release a few, which was not fun and involved a lot of mess and loss of bird seed. We live in the city so the squirrels are really accomplished problem solvers when it comes to food. A great feeder if you don't have a squirrel problem.

Note: "discourages < most> squirrels"...

The chickadees LOVE to feed at it but we get a variety of other small birds. Thought it was squirrel proof but today proved otherwise; it provides comfortable seating for 1-2 red squirrels

Squirrels hate my new Edwardian Bird Feeder

This bird feeder is attractive and also keeps squirrels out of the bird seed. Love it!

Not squirrel proof

The product needs to be improved by decreasing the spacing on the top of the cage. One of our squirrel put his head through one opening and his front paws through the adjacent openings. He ate from the feeder for a sufficiently long time for me to take several photos.

Less than 6 months and it can't be fixed

This product has tiny little screws on the bottom. One of the screws loosened by itself and is gone. Now the feeder will no longer remain upright. I received this as a housewarming gift and am very disappointed that it did not last.

Very difficult to clean, design flaw

This feeder is pretty. It's biggest drawback is how difficult it is to clean. There is a design flaw in that seed gets trapped in the bottom of this feeder and becomes moldy. It is almost impossible to remove this moldy seed without taking the entire feeder apart.I only use this feeder in the summer when I have more time to take it apart to clean, which involves tools and lots of extra time. I have many feeders, but none are made like this one. Most feeders can be easily cleaned by shaking out the old seed and a quick rinse with the hose. I would not recommend or purchase again.

I don't recommend

The design was not well thought out. It is very difficult to take the feeder apart to clean. It takes an inordinate amount of time to deal with the screws, which are tiny and hard to reach. Almost every time a screw or nut goes missing. It makes me not want to clean it, but of course that is not ok. I would not buy this again and don't recommend it unless you have a lot of time to fill.

After a 2 week trial this feeder gets high marks

Was happy to deconstruct the squirrel baffle which was rather unsightly. The first few days the birds were noticeably apprehensive, and they had to navigate in what appeared to be tight quarters, but that has all changed; the feeder now is mobbed. Larger birds like bluejays have visited but seem less enthused. And the bottom tray catches seeds that would otherwise have fallen to the ground in our tub feeder, and don't go unnoticed, the tray is always picked clean. Visually kind of charming as the feeder resembles a bird cage, of course without the downside of being imprisoned. Squirrel has been on the feeder a few times that I've noticed, but frustrated by the design and unable to get to the seed; though smaller squirrels might be able to squeeze in, that has yet to happen. Just 2 design flaws, I always have to fuss over getting the lid back on, and the bottom part could have been engineered better for easy removal for cleaning. Otherwise, very pleased and enjoying our purchase.

Not Squirrel Proof

The metal ring at the top of the feeder is not secured to the metal cage surrounding the feeder. Squirrels are able to remove the metal top of the feeder and access the plastic tube holding the seed. Before I could think of a way to secure the metal top a squirrel chewed the plastic tube trying to get the seed in the lower part of the feeder making the feeder useless.

Squirrel Proof Bird Diner!

The squirrels were eating all of the bird feed, but not with this bird feeder! Keeps the squirrels out and the birds are happy patrons again.

Would not buy again

This bird feeder is very pretty. However, the squirrels can get the top off and stick their head in the feeder. Not sure if the top is defective.

Beautiful but NOT squirrel-proof

This feeder is pretty and the smaller songbirds like it but so do the squirrels. The squirrels can easily take the cover off and they can squeeze through the bars at the top that are more widely spaced. It wouldn't take too much to make this feeder actually squirrel-proof.

Edwardian bird feeder for backyard viewing joy

Our Edwardian bird feeder hangs so nicely outside of our window where we can watch song birds get there fill all day long! It makes us feel like spring is in the air on the cold winter days.
