Functionally exceptional, but bad materials

I bought this for a guest bathroom that would be used by kids and seniors. I believed that pressing buttons will be easier. However, the materials used for knobs and buttons are very flaky. In less than a year, the knob broke.

Awesome product

I am a general contractor specializing in residential bathroom remodels. I chose these valves for my master bathroom because I wanted something special for us. The install is a little more complex than standard U.S. valves and trim, but they have an awesome step by step video to help on youtube if needed. We absolutely love the look and function of these valves. Will 10/10 use them again in future higher end jobs

Grohe Triple Function Thermostatic Valve

We have other Grohe plumbing fixtures and like the durability and design of their products. With that said, the Grohe Triple Function Thermostatic Valve is a slight disappointment. The end cap on the water control continues to pop off and is plastic. Not sure why it won't stay on. We intend to reach out to Build for warranty assistance so we'll see how they respond along with Grohe.

Disappointed - Broken & Cheap Parts

I am an interior designer (who has been featured in Elle Decor among other publications), am working on my own personal home and my contractor specifically recommended / strongly pushed for Grohe. I spent over $1000 on the full shower set which I thought would be outstanding. I was wrong.

Temperature control never worked well

Had this installed in my newly remodeled bathroom. Shortly after I started to use it, I noticed the water temperature didn't change when rotating the water temperature control knob. I tried to fix it by following the GROHE's installation video on youtube, and found the knob (the purple part in the pic) will come off from base easily when rotating. To keep it in place, I have to push the knob towards the control panel when I rotate. If I forgot to push the knob, then the purple part will detach from base after several rotates and the temperature control will stop working again.

Looks nice when there aren't water spots, easy to use, no pressure adjustment or heat.

The Starlight Chrome finish shows water spots very easily, and does not look terribly nice. See attached pics, for both this valve trim and the tub spout.

High end look

Nice real metal trim. Heavy foam gasket but still put silicone over the top but not needed. Interesting operation, push on push off, volume for each and separate temp control below. Temp stays the same no matter who flushes a toilet. Even had downstairs shower going today same time. Did not notice.

We love this shower control unit. It looks feels and performs like a really high-end unit. Keep in mind this the unit does not come with all the items needed for installation. You have to separately purchase a Grohe Rapido SmartBox (part number 35601000). The on-off water control is through the push buttons, the volume through each individual knob and the temperature through the main center knob. The unit comes with several different label tabs that will help identifying the different showerheads on your bathroom. Installation is straight forward if you know what you are doing. Otherwise leave it to a professional plumber. That being said, Grohe has a very detailed instructional video on how to perform its installation. I would highly recommend this control valve to anyone looking for a high quality product. It is not the cheapest one, but I believe it is worth its price.

This was a perfect addition to our master bathroom. Installation, while quite difficult if you have no plumbing experience, was a bit easier seeing that I had the tub walls down to the studs. It made installing the valve (which is sold separately), that much easier. I tapped into existing copper pipes with couplers and ran pex to the valve. I had three different diversions going, including tub spout, wall shower and ceiling shower. Installation was a good 1/2 day before I was able to test. The use of the Smart Control is very easy. You set your temp and it will stay that way each time. Then you simply press the button for what ever water supply you want. I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice upgrade, but if you are not comfortable with plumbing I would hire someone for this project.

After my long awaited bathroom renovation project, I can finally comment about this smart control. My new shower is equipped with a body spray, overhead rain shower, and a handheld sprayer. This controller makes it simple to switch between my desired options with ease. The placement of the markings on the unit make it very easy to figure out which way to turn the knobs, which turn very smoothly as should be expected of a product of this caliber. It is also easy to notice upon touch, that the chrome finish is of high quality, and makes cleaning a breeze with a simple wipe-down. Even though I don't have young children in the home, it is great to know it comes equipped with safety features to prevent scalding. The EcoJoy feature allows you to adjust the flow, so you can save water when shampooing, or simple take a more eco-friendly shower if desired. I am now spoiled with the most luxurious shower experience possible. When I give guests a tour of my home, I can't resist but show them how this awesome controller works (never thought I'd be showing off my bathroom shower) It did take my plumber a little extra time to install, but that's why I paid someone smarter than I at plumbing to install this :)

This is the second one of these that we've gotten and like the other model this is a really superb quality product with what appear to be very high manufacturing tolerances (pieces fit together very well without any "play" in them. As with all things plumbing related, ease of installation depends on your situation. For new construction, this was pretty straight-forward without any real issues, but it's still not for a novice. Otherwise, it functions as advertised and we've been very happy with it.

Incredible upgrade to shower! This GROHE Grohtherm Smart Control Triple Function Round Thermostatic Trim with Control Module in Brushed Nickel is as beautiful as it is functional. What an impression it makes on anyone using the shower. When installing you are able to label each of the controls to match your hardware. These labels make it easy to change when showering. Having an easy to control thermostat makes this a true luxury. I know when go to sell the house, this upgraded bathroom will more than pay for itself. So while the price is high and installation is not the easiest to do, the end result and the value added is well worth going with this luxurious control module. I love it!

The Grohtherm Smart Control Thermostatic control is an advanced device for setting your shower/bath selections. It does require a smart box purchase that is not included in this price. This allows you to select a favorite temperature and volume at the push of a button. It also prevents temperature fluctuation and has a maximum temperature of 100F to prevent scalding. A well thought out piece that should last a long time and add value to your house.

This is a beautiful, well-designed and well-built shower controller. It requires the Grohe Rapido SmartBox rough-in to connect to. This is an excellent choice when you have multiple water sources in your shower/bath - this has 3 controllers, each one can go to its own shower head, bath faucet, side shower or hand-held unit. It's all controlled easily in one place, with the push of a button. You control temperature and flow from the buttons, you can use more than one water source at the same time, and you can set it to not exceed 100 degrees. The instructions are detailed, and are exclusively in picture format. After reviewing instructions carefully, and watching a few YouTube videos, my handy husband, who has a fair amount of plumbing experience, felt comfortable with the installation, but it is not a typical DIY project.

I love this Grohtherm smart control. Currently awaiting delivery of both the Grohe Rapido rough-in enclosure along with supply side shutoffs before I can install this Smart Control. I am a resident in NYC hence newly installed shower fixtures “must” have both supply side shutoffs in order to meet plumbing code. Suggestion is to spend the extra few dollars and have supply side shutoffs installed as it will simply make life easier when maintenance or repairs are needed down the road. If you omit installing supply side shutoffs this Smart Control will still work however it means having to shut off water to your home or building if maintenance or repairs are required. Doesn’t sound to inconvenient however for condominiums or co-ops this is impossible w/o board approval. This will be my 2nd Grohe smart control shower and each time I complete these renovations my comfort level increases exponentially. For those who are installing this shower valve for the first time there are now quite a few YouTube videos which will walk you thru any hesitations you might still have. Again, this is a complete German designed shower valve and both thought and design are top notch. I was originally hesitant using Grohe Smart Control over the older generation single-cartridge ceramic disc design with its solid brass body design but after installing my very first Grohe smart control shower fixture Grohe does indeed know thermoplastic resin valves and valve bodies are better designs. Hardly any calcium/lime buildup and only a failed supply side cartridge is replaced unlike the earlier Grohe valves which involved “both” supply side cartridge body swap out.

Grohe smart control valve

After waiting so long for bathroom renovation to be finished, I was finally able to try it out. I had purchased the rain shower head with multiple settings, the handheld sprayer also with multiple settings, and 3 body sprays. It was hands down the best shower I have ever had. My old shower dribbled water regardless of swapping out fixtures and I was worried about water pressure with new system. While expensive, this Grohe shower system was amazing. I can use all 3 features at the same time with minimal drop in pressure. Sprays were set at mid power and could hit the back wall (about 5’) in almost a straight line. Each of the the multiple settings on handheld and rain head was better than the last. It was a challenge for plumber to install, had to reread directions and watch videos but end result was well worth the wait. Far exceeded my expectations, would give this 10 stars if I could.

The Grohtherm SmartControl concealed thermostat allows you to select your desired spray source and adjust the water volume at the push-turn of a button. The SafeStop override button allows you to set a maximum temperature of 100°F/38°C to prevent scalding. Water-saving technology gives you the option of a reduced flow rate. The brushed nickel finish is elegant looking and easy to clean. Please note that this product must be installed in combination with the GROHE Rapido SmartBox (35601000). The installation is not that easy unless you're a plumber, so I'd hire someone to install it.
