Reviews

We bought an amtech several years ago and put it first in the back of our house and then in the front. The material was wearing out and after researching it we found it would be better to buy a new awning then to try to replace the fabric on the old awning. We were so pleased with the old wanting that we bought the same brand which was on Tech. It was easy to install because we had the hardware for the old awning up. We love it. It serves the purpose of keeping our driveway cool and Sun free. It has been up for probably a month. I like the fact that we can use it with the remote. And if I am around in nine more years and need another one I will probably buy the same brand

Very pleased

Got this in June and have used it every day for 3 months. I chose this because it was the best I could find at this price point with good reviews. Unlike many awnings, this one came assembled which was a big plus. It is quite heavy, and it took two men to put it up. It needs to be securely installed. It comes with a remote and a manual wand, but once you use the remote, you'll really appreciate having it. This is a good heavy-duty unit; there is nothing cheap about it. You can adjust the outward angle and L-R tilt but requires manual adjustment. The remote is to only open and close it, but once you've decided on the angle, there really is no need to keep adjusting it. The awning is good quality and really does keep out the hot afternoon sun from our windows. It has made our outdoor patio actually usable. Check out Awntech's website for more info. Plan to buy an awning protective cover for the winter months. I was a little nervous ordering from Walmart, but it came quickly, in good shape, and they sent me updates when it was shipped.

Love my new awning! Installation through Angi (purchased on Wayfair) can be hit or miss as my first guys came without a ladder and other necessities and didn't pitch the awning. Angi's partnership with Wayfair made it easy for me to schedule a follow-up for the awning to be pitched, and that made ALL the difference. Definitely a purchase well-worth the money!

Updated Review -- Critical parts

I wrote the earlier review after being told by Awntech support that the parts were not covered under warranty and that I had to purchase replacement parts.

Critical parts not covered under warranty

Installed the awning on June 23, 2023. After less than a year of light occasional use, I opened it on June 15, 2024. At this point, I notice one of the lateral arms did not have enough tension to fully open the awning, make it sag and droop on that side (see first picture).

The awning itself is very nice and it manually opens and closes very easily. However my poor rating is due to the delivery service. I recognize my 1 star product rating is an unfair even though the product itself is decent, but I’m the customer and I should not be bearing the burden of poor delivery and poor customer service.

So far so good, the awning is beautiful and covers the whole porch. We sat out when raining and very minimal precipitation came through. The crank is easy enough to use. Delivery was a bit tricky as they needed a signature and brought the product back to Maine from Massachusetts when we were unaware of truck outside. Then authorized to bring back to my home took a few days. This then impacted the installer but it all worked out. The installer who was recommended by list from Home Depot they were efficient just missed a few washers, and need to come back to adjust.

Nice idea to keep the sun off but expensive for the over all quality. My husband made supports to make it more stable.. especially with a breeze. We put it down when we know there will be any wind more than just a breeze. Not really impressed with the quality of the awning material. Super thin. It does the job though. It's very easy to use, cranks open very easily. We have the manual .

Overall the awning is as advertised and will adequately do the job. I however leaned that the 18ft x 10 awning material the fabric creases at the weld seams, and I'm told this is standard with all of the Awntech patio awnings at larger widths. It looks a bit unsightly to me and my wife thinks it was a bad purchase. This is not a product that is easily returned after you install it. I am told that this will NOT affect operation or longevity... In reality it does the job, covers a large area with shade, opens easily, and looks good from a distance, but something I will look at unfavorably when I look up. I have another property with a 16 x 10 and not the same issue, so just a note for future buyers to be aware of.

Lowes won't install awnings.

The product looked good but Lowes doesn't install awnings. Lowes has an agreement to with Sunsetter to install Sunsetter awnings. Sunsetter won't install other manufacturers awnings. The Lowes website doesn't make that clear. We could not find a contractor that installs awnings, and California awnings says it is up to the purchaser to find one. The store can't help as they only work with Sunsetter for installs. So unless you are confident to install this yourself, don't purchase this. I have know idea how the quality for the product was, we first read the instructions and determined it wasn't a project we were comfortable undertaking with our new vinyl siding.

Make sure that your wall is not bowed in or out.

To start, I will say that I am quite handy and do most projects at home myself. First, when the awning arrived, the box looked as if it had been dragged through a very nasty war. No obvious damage, so I accepted it. Secondly, the instructions seem to have been written by someone who does not know how to spell or have any grasp of how to use the english language. For an American made product, the instructions are laughable and seem to have been printed on the office copier. Nothing seems to be properly adjusted. The retracting arms are not at the same height and the fabric wrinkles because it is not rolling up straight. Nothing in the instructions about fixing these issues. Trying to figure it out for myself. I will say, it has a heavy fabric and most parts seem to be sturdy. The motor is quiet and seems capable of moving the awning, although it overheats pretty quickly. Don't know how many of these issues are due to the trucking company's atrocious handling of the product or poor assembly at the factory.

We bought an Awntech maui 14’x12’ motorized awning in May 2019. We mistakenly thought it would be a pleasant convenience. Out of the box the awning fabric rolls up wrinkled on the roller, bags in the middle, allows the lightest sprinkling of dew or rain to pool in the middle, and appears very cheap and unstable. We bought the extended version of the awning, but we are afraid to fully extend it for fear it will collapse on us. If you open the awning a by mere 2’ water will pool in the middle.

Super easy to install. There are three brackets that you secure to the wall (may be more or less depending on the size). My son and I easily mounted the awning to the wall. I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because the instructions were poorly written, which surprised me since it is suppsed to be mad in the US. They could have used more diagrams indiciating which way is up. I know it sounds simple but when it is rolled up the natural looking position is incorrect. So yes, the first time I mounted it I proudly pushed the button and it extended beautifully.... just like a garage door! (Down) However it only took minutes to unmount, reposition, and remount. Works great and my 82 year old father is enjoying his deck again!
