Handel too big for sink opening!

I was replacing an older Moen bar faucet with the new design to match my kitchen sink and center island faucets. The bar sink has 2 holes. One for the spout and one for the handle. The new spout fit fine but the new handle would not go thru the 1.25" opening. It requires a 1.75" hole. I was not about to change sinks and not prepared to try and open up the hole in the stainless steel sink so I returned it.

Got the exactly the same bar faucet at home. It was leaking due to metal corrosion and worn inner plastic piece in the spout part. The rubber ring (gasket) under spout was thin and slim which doesn't stop water dripping down to the cabinet unerneath ( don't trust the ring, please apply a thick ring of plumbers putty when install) That wasn't the biggest problem in term of design since it was in its place for years with all that. The biggest problem is that with two holes drilled on the granite counter top, you will face situation like this 1. You have very very (seriously) limited choice of bar faucet these days with handle and spout separated in two different parts. 2. Even you luckily found same type of faucet (two parts separated ), you need to watch out the size of the two holes carefully and make sure the new one having large base than the holes drilled. We end up with no choices and have to buy the same model as it's the only choice on the market. We paid our price from 3rd party vender happen to keep it in inventory as it's discontinued model. With that price, there are much more and better choices out there if it were single hole faucet. The replacement faucet as newer version didn't come with red/blue small round stikcer on the handle, which adds confusion on indication of cold/hot water. The metal piece (hardware kit) which holds the spout from surface below corroded crazy. Modern faucet would do this in a smarter way with just a simple plastic kit. Anyway, if you haven't drilled two holes on your granite top and still have the choice, please make contemporary choice and buy a single hole faucet, you will be thankful for the choice you made today. This ones looks stylish while it's working. But on the market today, it's a dying design. I'm crossing my fingers and hope it last longer than I need this time. Otherwise, I'll need to pray for the 3rd party vendor who still keeps the inventory and pay for what ever the price would be that time.

I bought the same model 12 years ago. It recently developed a drip. The older version of this model was impossible to make a repair to; the parts were fused together and also required a specialized spanner wrench which I did fabricate but still could not take it apart. Since we did like the exterior appearance I checked on the newer version for future repair. Internally the newer version is completely different, but the connections to the supply line are different. I had to find and install adapters for an additional $12.00.
