Rusts out quickly even covered

Good: Unit works perfect for a small propane grill.

Ok

I found that when I use this the inner side of the grill does not get hot enough to cook the meat as on the side directly over the burner. So that he is not distributed evenly. I was very bummed over this. Fairly small as well in how much you can cook at one time

Buy the Griddle instead of the sear box

Don't waste your money. I have made phone calls and emails to the company. The company believes that after smoking, there will be minimal grease left in the meat and that any grease drippings will be vaporized. This is absolutely not the case. I have smoked the meat until the desired temperature and then seared on the sear box. I am continually cleaning my driveway of grease drippings as there is no grease collection under the sear box. It is a design flaw that in my opinion needs to be addressed. The only comment that I received from one of their technicians is that they love their sear box. My friend who recommended the unit to me is also having the same problem. Buy the griddle instead of the sear box as it has its own collection system.

Great idea, but....

Loved the idea as an add-on to my Woodwind. Have had it for about 9 months and I expect it to last another month or so before it rusts through. I use it to both reverse sear and to grill on aq weekly basis. It is covered when not in use, but the rust is substantial.

BB30 BBQ accessory & COPS pizza stone

I purchased. BB30 BBQ for my Pro 60 14” stove. After purchase I found that the BBQ would not close completely with the pizza stone inserted in the BBQ. The two tabs that secure the BBQ grate during transport provide an interference with the pizza stone. Without modification of the tabs, these two items are not compatible with one another. The modification was simple for me and I am now happy with my purchase, but not all buyers will have the ability to make them work together. Buyer beware. Camp Chef has been a part of my family for forty years - this is the first issue I have had with three stoves and many accessories.

Good sear BUT HORRIBLE QUALITY!

I’ve loved my camp chef smoker, sidekick, and grill box and have taken good care of it and have cover on it anytime it’s not in use. I’ve enjoyed the grillbox and it does a great sear…BUT the entire box, deflector plate rusted through even being extremely careful to care/maintain the unit and keep covered at all time. I contacted customer support and they refused to replace the parts and offered parts for purchase, but the box housing is falling apart so there’s no point. Craftsmanship and support are very poor.

[Rewarded Review] Grill box: great, but design flaw

I like the grill box, and the option to add smoker pellets underneath, and the thermometer. However, I have the expedition 14, and when you open the grill box, it hits the back shield of the stove. So you have to hold it open the whole time. It doesn’t stay open by itself. Which is a bit of a safety hazard and makes cooking a lot more difficult.

Listing is for different item

Listing is for a smaller grill box. If you read the model number, it's not what is described at all in the listing. Great deal if it was actually a 16" grill box. It's a 14", and includes no carry bag.

[Rewarded Review] Loving the Grill Box

The grill box worked perfectly on my Sidekick. The temperature got to 500 degrees quickly and seared the steak on the cast iron grates. Loving my purchase and makes my pellet grill much more versatile.

Very good bbq box once you figure it out

Initially I hated this bbq box and I told Camp Chef just that. They tried to be helpful but in the end it was more about figuring out now to make it work for me. It does not work like a regular gas/charcoal grill. Used as is the fat will collect on the slanted bottom and roll to the back then cause non stop flare ups. I tried covering in tin foil but that really created a problem. I was going to junk it then happened to try wood chips in perforated tin foil in the bottom of the box - whoa! huge difference. Make the chip packet the size of the unlouvered section in the bottom and let the start smoking before cooking whatever it is - now you have the convenience of a gas grill and the taste of a wood/charcoal fire. It also minimizes the flare ups until the chips catch fire which isn't a problem. The intensity of the fire will determine how quick the flare up happens and how bad it is.

Outstanding addition to our 14inch two burner

Have used for years paired with single griddle plate. It is unlimited what you can cook on it for two people. Steak, Hash brown patties, hamburgers, biscuits for biscuits and gravy, chicken, and pretty much anything that you cook on a regular grill. It is just a little smaller.

Doubled the utility of my Camp Chef Gas Grill III

I got this grill box second hand for a very good price. It was good as new, but needed a little cleaning....which I knew when I purchased it. It is a great addition to my Camp Chef Big Gas Grill III. It fits perfectly. My grill has three burners and the grill box covers two of them nicely.

Grease Fire

Description says, “instantly vaporizes grease drippings”. Think how that actually works… I think this grilled is a flawed design. The actual grill and hot plate are so close together compared to a regular gas grill. So when you cook anything with a fat content and it drips down it immediately becomes a grease fire. Not a big deal on normal grill, but since there really is no space the flames engulf your food. Also, doesn’t help to close the lid to put out grease fire because too much airflow. If you keep to chicken breast and vegetables works great.

The perfect compliment

I purchased this to go on top of my sidekick that is mounted to my SG24. It did arrive promptly but had some slight damage to one of the corners. It does not affect the grill box at all though. So far i love it! I have reverse seared some steaks and pork chops. I will be doing some veggies soon as well as a few other things as well. The perfect complement to a wonderful smoker/grill.

Everything you might want in a sear box

This guy is a solid workhorse. Either it gets very dirty, very easily, or I'm just using it constantly. Probably both tbh! I love finishing smoked meats on this thing, including tri-tip, steaks, pork tenderloin, etc. The cast iron grates are a huge plus for those classic sear marks, while the heat distribution from the Sidekick burner allows for even searing with minimal to no flare-ups. Only downside is it appears the Sidekick burner might be too powerful for this searbox. I try to keep it below medium, otherwise, the temperature gauge goes well past 750, and the bottom of the searbox turns from black to red #funtimes

Great While it Lasted

I grew up in a family that uses Camp Chef - on the mountains and for backyard grilling. I knew and trusted the product, so when we moved away and needed a grill of our own, I didn't look anywhere else. Ordered the Tailgater Combo, and have had it in the yard since (living in South Carolina, we can grill 9-10 mos out of the year). I went out this spring, and the grillbox literally fell apart in my hands. Rusted all the way through in under 3 years. The base is also rusting away. My family (in Utah) has never had a problem like this. Would love for Camp Chef to create a version that holds up in humid climates, especially because we can grill more often.

Unfortunate design flaw/reality

So I bought this to go with the versatop camping grill and the reason I bought that was super easy, no mess cooking. That grill is perfect because the hot plate has the fat collection at the front of the plate that just routes down into the collection cup. I bought the grill box to go with it but the problem is there is no system to deal with fat drippings - they would basically drip down into the main grill unit that you may (like me) want to keep relatively clean. So there is a built in tray they claim collects the fat and "burns off" during cooking but of course to let fat through it needs holes in it. I read a bunch of other reviews that said that if you grill low fat food it's fine but burgers/steaks etc the fat run-off just pools on that tray and catches fire easily, How you would take the box off without getting nasty fat run-off everywhere I just could not see. The solution would have been relatively easy to design in - it just needs built in tray to funnel fat down into a front collection that goes into the dripping cup like their plate has. Honestly if that was the case this would be perfect but my guess is that to save $$$ they thought this would do. Long story short - if you don't mind grease and fat all over your stuff (ie. your setup is more permanent) and you are okay dealing with the odd grease flame-up - this is fine. If not you might just have to live with the hot plate which actually is quite fine when it comes to cooking almost anything. Cheers

Perfect For Camping or Travel

I travel for a lot with my job. Whether traveling in my camper or car. If I stay at a hotel I cook in the parking lot kind of like tailgating. I use this BBQ Grill Box almost daily on my 2 burner stove. I have cooked salmon on wood planks, grilled burgers, steak, pork chops, chicken, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed peppers. It works great. Perfect size for 2 people. Can cook enough burgers, steaks, or chicken for 4 people though.

Good product, some bad manufacturing.

Grill has great design. I have it's big brother and have used it extensively It cooks fish, steaks, burgers to perfection. If I use a bit of care & skill, I can do almost as well as with my Webber high end grill that has all the bells & whistles. I purchased this grill to sit on the open end of my 3 burner 16 inch camp chef system. It fits fine with the handle not installed and all I have to do is rig a replacement handle. This will allow me to cook for my kids and grandkids & a few extras for a total of about 16 people in one batch

Really want to love this thing...

I had been on the fence with the older Deluxe version of this attachment. I finally jumped on when they added the stainless steel lid. It is a unique design and I know they like their version with the heat diffuser plates. I'm not the biggest fan of the design but felt comfortable spending the money on this since it doesn't look like they're planning to make any design changes. I added some custom cut grates (from a really popular company who makes grill grates). I'm not sure if I should have ordered the griddle version of their grates to prevent the drippings from going down into the heat diffuser and ultimately on the burner.
