[Rewarded Review] New NEST thermostat in home

Updated our Nest thermostat from the 1st Nest - there is the ability to do more settings of the thermostat for any day (overnight setting, morning start & time, multi setting times to turn down temperature a day or to set up specific days/times for any day or multiple days). Additional has a daily, weekly & monthly record of the hours of usage as well as tracking 'Leaf' of the daily usage. Can control it from the wall (easy to turn it on & off with sliding your finger on the side of the thermostat) or using an apt on your phone. Turn it on & off away from home) Still seeing other possibilities.

This bit of trim fit the Nest perfectly and is the correct size to cover the area and opening from the previous thermostat. Very good solution. No painting or other touchup required.

A very handy and useful tool for my Nest thermostat. Really like how it just fits perfectly and it looks nicer than the previous one I had. The material is plastic but it's well made and seems durable. A must-have if the installation calls for it.

I believe this will cover up the spot where most people’s old thermostats were. It saves you from painting and really compliments the nest thermostat’s shape. Super easy to install. I actually thought I wanted a dark grey since my nest thermostat is, but the white makes it pop.

Perfect match, but no instructions in the box.

The color match and fit with the Nest Thermostat was perfect. However, you have to remember that this is a google product, so there are no instructions, and you have to go on-line to find them. The problem with that is that there are multiple versions of the Nest Thermostat, so you have to sort through to figure out which one is yours. It would be much more convenient and accurate if they just put the correct instructions in the box. Speaking of putting things in the box, the "included" self tapping screws that are to be used for installation were not in the box. It is a great product, just wish they could follow through with making it easier on the consumer.

I thought that when getting this it will be as an extra precaution and that probably I will end up returning it. I was wrong. This item is an amazing add-on, specially when needed to cover the markings made by the previous controller.

[Rewarded Review] Perfect for covering wall defects behind the Nest

The trim kit worked perfectly for installation of the Nest thermostat. There was a fairly large area behind the original thermostat that was damaged and needed to be refinished or covered before installing the Nest. The trim kit was an easy solution to cover the damaged area.

Backing plate fragile. Google won't back it up

I have three trim plates. So far, I have broken one female bolt holder from a backing plate and broken three bolts. This was with a manual screwdriver, and I am not strong. Flaw may be related to blue locking compound (?) on side of each bolt. Spent 1/2 hour with Google support. They would not supply replacement bolts or replace the backing plate. Said three bolts were enough and for more bolts seek out a hardware retailer.

You don't really need this if you go with the highest model....I found out the hard way and had to return it.

It covered the 70s wall paper but that’s about it....

It covered the 70s wall paper but that’s about it. The screws that held the plastic plate to the wall bracket broke off. Turns out, they were the wrong size. No other screws in the package were even close. I had to find 4 screw that worked, from my collection of old bits & bobs.

[Rewarded Review] Nest Trim Kit

I bought 3 thermostats but I needed one of these trim kits because one of the old thermostats was mounted by a hack who left a big hole in the dry wall. I thought about patching the hole, but bought this instead and it actually looks very nice and professional. I was worried it would look like a patch job, but it looks great. Did not come with the dry wall screws and bolts that I needed, but no big deal.

This came with a metal backing plate. That plate allowed me to use the mounting holes from the old rectangular thermostat. The hole the wires came out from was so large round nest thermostat wanted to fall thru it. The shape is a little funkie though it curves out away from the wall, so the nest is kind of sunk in a little bit.

I am satisfied with the appearance of the trim kit I purchased. It was large enough to cover the spot on the wall where the existing thermostat bracket was and it made the part of the wall where the Google Nest is more appealing. One thing I would have liked was a better set of installation instructions and a plastic spacer (between the metal bracket and the trim plate). The screws that secure the trim plate to the metal bracket were too long and could not completely secure the trim plate to the bracket but securing the wiring bracket to the metal bracket held all of the parts to the wall firmly.

Purchased a Nest Thermostat recently and picked up the Trim Kit at the same time just in case. As to the trim kit in a general sense, If you have to hide some blemishes or in my case don't have matching touch up paint for the area of the wall and don't want to face the prospects of a involved touch up project, it will save time and money. With respect to the official Google trim kit, its a piece of plastic that does the job, but feels a tad over priced. as a personal preference I did not like the concave shape, I wanted a more convex shape to add definition. Would have been great if it was reversable, but as it was not I went looking for another compatible kit

I was concerned that there would be a gap on the wall because the Nest was smaller than my old thermostat. However, as it turns out, the Nest already included a wall cover plate as well that was large enough to cover the wall gap. I painted the wall plate to match my wall cover and it looks good. I returned the product. The wall plate is needed for very big gaps. Most of the time the included wall cover will do. Pleased overall.

Slightly pricy but well designed trim kit for the thermostat

A little pricey for a bit of plastic, but Google products always have a high level of quality to start with. I got this to hide the previous installation holes behind the thermostat, but I might spend the effort later to clean those up and remove the trim kit. It's nice, but the thermostat is definitely designed and looks much more cleaner on the wall without it.

I recently upgraded to a Google Nest from an old outdated thermostat. First off, let me say that I am soooo happy I upgraded. The Google Nest has been a game changer for me. I always have the temperatures that I want and I have saved hundreds of dollars in energy costs because I no longer heat my house when I'm sleeping or not using the room. But getting back to the trim plate... When I upgraded to the Nest, I had a big whole in my wall and the Nest didn't fully cover it. I was very happy when I found that Google made this trim plate to cover it up. It actually looks even cooler with the trim plate than if it were just on a flat wall. It looks extra intentional and fits super nicely. Love this.

Very well design and well made wall cover trim kit. The kit consists of... wall cover, metal mounting plate, & screws - 2 long & 2 short. The mounting plate is necessary to adapt horizontal (on electrical box) to vertical mounting holes (on Thermostat ring).

[Rewarded Review] Won’t work for everyone

This review is strictly based on the ‘annoyance’ of the Nest, not being compatible with all heating systems. Many older thermostats use only 2 wires, because they required less power. The Nest , may require an additional third wire for power, which would need to be installed by an electrician, thus, greatly increasing the investment in unit. Though Nest says you can look up if to see if your thermostat wires compatible. Many, won’t know this until you buy the unit and find that your system needs the extra wire. Resulting in returning Nest.
