Sheetrock 1, Sharktoothmart box 0
Bought this to mount some lights in the ceiling because the video showed it cutting the hole and it looked pretty easy. It didn't work for me. Our ceiling has a light knock down texture and it melted the teeth on the box. It barely even got through the texture. I had to pull out the keyhole saw to cut the hole.
Do not buy this
Plastic clamp piece easily falls off inside the wall. A cheap drywall knife does a much better job creating the hole you need. This thing throws drywall everywhere and creates a huge mess. I can't believe they still sell this trash. I only tried it because it was the only option Lowes carried, probably because they can charge more for the gimmick. This kind of trash product selection is why I only go to the store for urgent work.
The saw is weak and useless
Holly ***, they didn't test it at all before trying to sell? This is garbage. The saw barely cuts through the paper on the drywall, and the tooths are gone before going through 1/3rd of the gypsum. I had to cut it by hand, which defeats the purpose.
Works great
This box was great. The only down side was my drill over torqued the plastic nut and it broke off. I had to hand screw it the reaf of the way through the drywall. I did a seccond one and was more careful, and the nut stayed. Over all, I would definately buy again. Used to hang some lights in the bathroom so weight was not a problem for me (max is like 6 lbs).
Great idea, however poorly designed. Despite a slow cutting speed in drywall, the teeth melted rendering it useless. It did make a nice mark for cutting by hand, although a pencil mark would have done as well. Not worth the extra six dollars. Don't buy.

Absolute garbage. Spent more than twice the price of the standard ceiling box to spend more time trying to install. This item does not work as it says it does and leaves you with jagged gouges in your ceiling instead of a hole. Save yourself the frustration and wasted money and buy the regular box and a Sheetrock saw.
Best thing since sliced bread. Drilled a small hole in the sheet rock for a starter and used my hand to turn the box. Took about 3 minutes to get thru the sheetrock. Easy to mount!
Smart yet dumb at the same time.....
The circle box works as intended, the circle hole saw included with the box is non-sense. The teeth on the hole saw wear away before you ever finish making the hole, the teeth melt and wear away. There were no traditional round old work boxes at the store the day I picked these up so I was stuck purchasing 2 of these hot mess dot coms and I could only imagine for 10 bucks a piece why they would want only these on the shelves so they can move these out as soon as possible and rid their stock of these "Smart Boxes". I'll stick with the old style old work "Dumb Boxes" that have worked since forever.
Are you kidding me?
The plastic “nut” melted using both the 14mm socket as well as the interior. I was very skeptical when I bought 2, figured it was just a gimmick and, boy was I right. I followed the instructions hitting the wall on an angle at first but the plastic melted almost immediately. Just use your hole saw. It was destroy the back side of your Sheetrock like these do. What a mess!
Probably only works on fresh sheetrock
Like others have said, the teeth just melted in seconds and I went very slow. I was trying to make the hole in a previously painted section of wall. Maybe these things only work on fresh unpainted sheetrock. I ended up cutting the hole out manually with a hole saw.
Weak Teeth
I wanted to add a small motion activated led light in the ceiling of my pantry when I came across this. Looked like a great idea in engineering but the teeth all ground off when I was a quarter of way through. My ceiling has the stomped plaster design so that may of had something to do with it. I will just stick with a metal hole saw from now on. If your installing in smooth drywall then this may do the trick for you.
Not recommended for older drywall, teeth wore out.
I was excited about this product when I saw it. Huge disappointment. It carved a “starter mark” but only about 10-20 percent through the ceiling before the plastic teeth literally melted. The drill was on slow speed and I slightly rocked it as shown in the YouTube video I watched. I had to use a hand drywall saw to stab it through and cut the rest of the hole out which pretty much defeats the purpose. Honestly I renamed this product as your expensive sharpie hole marker.
I bought this to relocate a ceiling light. Loved the idea that it has a drill bit attached to the box. When I used it, the plastic saw teeth were shredded away immediately. I was so disappointed. Had to buy a dry wall knife to cut the hole, was able to use the electrical box. Not worth the price.
Stay away
This is overpriced junk. the hole saw portion was incapable of creating a hole in drywall. When I finally drilled a 4 inch hole with a proper metal hole saw, very loose fit. I probably needs 3.5 inch hole, which my kit doesn't have. It was very difficult to pull wires through. Buy the much cheaper j boxes that fit tight in 4 inch holes.

I bought these to put on R panels. It was on only box that the “wings” would go down far enough to grip the metal. I took the teeth off and have not used the for drywall as designed. They are thick and well made. I found the work great for putting residential style lights on a metal building,
Flush mount led garage lights
I'm putting flush mount led lights in my garage. I decided to use the Smart Box (shark tooth) for this project. I think this will beat having to use the key hole saw for this project and tracing out the outline of each box. Is all I had to do was to find all the ceiling joist. The shark tooth smart box made cutting the holes a breeze. The three ears held the shark tooth smart box tight to the ceiling and flush. The shark tooth smart box is plenty deep enough to make up the electoral connection and room for the small led ballasts. The only problem I had was that the nut to drill the hole broke off just as I punched through the sheet rock. Other than this small problem, I love shark tooth smart box.
Like the box, the cutter is worthless.
The box has a thin sturdy rim that sits outside the drywall which helps some sconces sit flush to the wall better than other boxes. However, it relies on a plastic nut turned by your drill to cut the hole. Both the inside and outside portions stripped out before I got done. For the cost, just go buy a real holesaw and use the cheaper box.

I needed to install three new pendant lights
The idea is good but….
I am re-hooking my ceiling light from a lousy job that was done by the building’s contractor. It didn’t have a proper junction box and it’s not centered to the ceiling, so I decided to drill new hole and hook up the existing wiring to a new chandelier from a canless & waffle led recessed light. The construction of the ceiling box is okay, but the drilling mechanism is not working as intended. It burned out and stuck in the ceiling after 15 sec of drilling. So I ended up taking it out and drill numerous small holes and fit the ceiling box that way. Also, the wire inlets are very stubborn. I wish it’s easier to use.
works as intended
This box works perfectly, and the people giving it 1 star reviews are probably not using it correctly. If you let the drill do the work, then it goes in just fine. if you try to put too much pressure on it, then it will break or melt. these are probably the same people who put tons of pressure on their drill bits too, and then wonder why they did not last...let the drill do the work.
