Beautiful Swan Shower Base

This is the 2nd Swan Stone shower base that we have purchased. We put a new shower in a previous house and now we are renovating our master bath and ordered a Swan shower base in Ice and it is beautiful. We can't wait to see it all together with our bathroom fixtures too.

This is not a solid surface pan based upon what most people would commonly expect with that description. The pan is much thicker than the cheaper acrylic options but it is not solid surface like corian or engineered stone. I returned ours after receiving it and purchased an actual sold surface alternative.

Beautiful Shower Pan

I really like this shower pan. Looks much better than the solid color pans and appears to be well made with the color throughout the pan, not just painted on top. Not inexpensive, but only a small portion of the overall cost to refinish the bathroom.

Easy installation per installation instructions

This solid base was easy to install and with a little thinset underneath per installation instructions it is very stable. The drain gasket was also easy to install with a little dish soap per installation instructions and a wooden dowel to slide it into place between the shower base and drain pipe. I was a little worried about the no caulk drain gasket, but after conducting a flood test on the pan, there were no problems at all.

Swanstone is a great shower base, but only if you set it in thinset like you are suppose to do! Read the installation instructions. Installing it in thinset makes it feel solid. I seems like it will last 100 years when done correctly.

Comes with a unique drain system. I does come with gasket and drain grate. The pans drain is molded and sits inches below the pan. Then you force gasket around pvc drain pipe.

[Rewarded Review] Description not accurate

We’ve done extensive research on the Swanstone solid base products, based on what we had read, and seen in pictures, the canyon option was exactly what we needed. A solid sturdy pan that would not react like the cheap plastic options (plus no tiling, yay!) When we picked up the product and brought it home. The color was not the same as shown. More of a light grey, not dark. The material felt no different than the Cheap plastic option, and it looks Chinsy, especially the added no-slip texture. I feel as though Seanstone has dramatically misrepresented these items. We will be returning.

It looks good but is not as solid and seemingly durable as the Swanstone countertops. It's more like a piece of plastic -- similar to fiberglass and acrylic shower bases. I wish it had come with a thick plastic cover or something to protect it during tile work.

The shower base looks great and is definitely built better than the less expensive bases sold in store. So, for the money it is an upgrade. That being said I thought it would be more solid. This base system definitely requires mortar mix to provide the strength needed to keep it from flexing.

It came very well packaged, in perfect condition. I don't think it is anywhere close to the stated 47 lb. weight, however, it is solid and looks good. I like the integral drain, and also purchased separately the brushed nickel cover to match the faucet and door trim. Even though the base is quite solid, follow the manufacturers recommendation and install over a mortar bed. The higher priced color options would be a stretch, but the plain white is a good value. Incidentally, it's not a pure bright white, has a bit of a tint to it, and that works great for my install. I dropped a star only because of the misleading weight specification.

When the tile was installed, however, the weight of the tile around the edge pressed down and displaced the edge slightly, causing the center of the tray to buckle a little bit, resulting in a "squishy" feeling beneath your feet. This tray does not have adequate support at its edges for tile.

The unit was easy to install and I like it. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the drain assembly. It's friction fit and no way to tighten it. It leaves a tiny ridge that will keep it from completely draining.
