I am using this as a classroom student station. Assembly by myself took me around 2.5 hours, the build of this shelf is sturdy and I am confident it's going to outlast any and all other cubby shelves on the market!

Beautiful but some assembly issues

I love the way it looks put together! It's very sturdy except for the backing, which is a typical cardboard type. But there is a 1/4" gap between the bottom shelf and the molding that goes in front of it. It was also missing some nail holes to attach the bottom brackets for this molding, so it required extra effort.

Very happy and very pleased with this purchase

I absolutely love this bookcase. I use it for home decor more than books. The picture online is exactly what it is in person. Very well-made! It actually serves multiple purposes for me because it also has my 55 inch TV on the top of it… Which makes it look like I have my TV on the wall. I had a 16-year-old friend of mine put it together for me, and he agreed that it was Well me and directions were easy to follow. Definitely would buy this again and recommend it to anyone interested in adding something to They are home decor.

Good bookcase, usual flat pack challenges.

The bookcase looks great and is very heavy. It was relatively easy to put together. I had hoped the "nametag" brackets on the front could be left off but there are pre-drilled holes so had to add them. As usual with flatpack furniture, not everything lined up perfectly and we had to add some pieces under each end to make it even (was rocking/pivoting on the middle support). Also, the back is the usual flimsy cardboard type rather than fully wood pieces. Looks fine once together but less solid than I had pictured.

Functional and Beautiful

Overall, this is a really great bookcase! I am an avid reader and have quite a collection of books. This bookcase serves it's purpose both as a functional and beautiful bookcase. It did take a bit of time to put together but it was very easy for me to put together by myself (5', 120 lb. female :)). My only reason for rating this bookcase a four instead of a five is because this bookcase isn't quite as sturdy as I had hoped. It is sturdy enough (and sturdier than many other on the market) but I was hoping for more of a sturdiness comparable to a solid (real wood) bookcase. All in all, a great purchase for the price!

This bookshelf is perfect for my space. I love the color & overall piece in general! However, I was disappointed that one of the many damaged parts is front & center; very noticeable. All the other damaged parts were hidden by the time I was done assembling. (Damaged as in part of the finishing was chipped on several pieces but nothing damaged structurally.) Also, the long screws that hold the pieces in place on the top shelf were very difficult to do by hand; I ended up stripping the screw heads & getting a blister. My advice, use a drill or electronic screwdriver. Otherwise, assembly was straightforward. The cubbies are perfect for books, DVDs & anything else you may want to display.

Owned This For A Year Now

The Sauder Barrister Lane Bookcase is a great piece. I'm a homeschooling mom of 4 children, and it works perfectly for all of our supplies/books. There are label holders on the shelves, of which I find helpful, but also gives the bookcase a rustic/industrial style even if left empty and not utilized for labeling items. The Sauder Barrister Lane Bookcase was exactly what I was looking for to compliment my rustic farmhouse decor. I decided on the Salt Oak Finish. My friends and family have all expressed their love for the bookcase... my Mother actually bought one in a different finish, she liked it so much! The Sauder Barrister Lane Bookcase has both form and function. You can use it to display or store items as well as a good number of books or dvd's. It is very durable and well made it will hold a good amount of weight without warping/bending. Instructions are clear and detailed. I put the bookcase together by myself in about an hour and a half. You may need someone to help you stand the bookcase up properly upon finishing the assembly of it, as it is a bit heavy. I have waited to write this review. I wanted to see how the bookcase would hold up over time. I'm more than pleased with this purchase and have owned the Sauder Barrister Lane Bookcase for about a year now. It looks the same as the day I received it, and has held up very well to everyday cleaning and children whom are in and out of their "cubbies" daily. If your looking for a stylish piece, that is well made, at an affordable price, then the Sauder Barrister Lane Bookcase is it!

I had been looking for bookcases to line a huge wall in my living room. I have many books and love the look of a ceiling to floor library. I bought this one to put in the middle of the two tall ones, and I have my TV on top. I rent so I didn't want to invest in hanging my flat screen as I won't be here long. This works perfectly. It sits up just about as high as it would be if I hung it. It was delivered in about 5 days, packaged well, but UNBELIEVABLY HEAVY. I'm a nurse, and pretty strong, but I could BARELY even drag it inside my apartment from right outside my door. Don't be intimidated by the amount of screws and pieces, just follow the directions step by step and it goes together really easy. I'm pretty handy, but the directions are very good and easy to follow. I have to say that every single predrilled hole was EXACTLY in place. They say you only need a screwdriver to put together, which is true, but goes quicker and much easier with a cordless. I searched the web initially as they were out of stock on the salt oak, and walmart beat everyone else by $40 to $200, and they had free shipping. Some sites wanted as much as $90 to ship, which I can almost understand with how much it weighed. Needless to say, I love it, it looks beautiful, and the shape is a bit different from what you usually see. The color reminds me of driftwood, but obviously smooth to the touch. Looks great against boring beige walls, which most renters have, but not too dark and heavy looking. I would definitely by this brand again.
