[Rewarded Review] Lemons. 1st replaced; 2nd lasted only 2 summers.

This was an awful purchase. This is a huge unit, too big for one person to lift. I hired help to get it upstairs and installed. After all that, it didn't cool. "Bad Compressor." After the hassle of uninstalling it, getting it back down stairs, waiting for a new delivery, hiring help again with getting it installed. waiting for pick of the original lemon a/c, the new unit was as loud as a jet engine. LG arranged for a repair person to come, but on the day, my daughter had Covid and he would not come in (She was isolated in another part of the house.) After so much hassle, I decided to live with the noise since it was cooling. Just 2 years later - just 2 summers - it stopped cooling. It is now past warranty. LG has supplied me with a dozen names of "repair centers" and NOT ONE will come to work on a window unit. I'm beyond disappointed with the quality of the unit and the sevice. The one star is for the fact that it cooled my space, if only for a short while.

Air conditioner died after just one season of use!

This air conditioner was great the first summer. We bought it in April of 2023 and it died the end of June 2024. It was great while it lasted BUT too much to pay for just one years use! It truly made me sick to think how much we paid for it to work no longer than it did. I would NOT recommend this item.

Cools but annoyingly LOUD compressor

I ordered the LW1816ER for my elderly parents. The unit cools very efficiently so far but the compressor is very loud and annoying. It’s hard to hold a conversation when the unit is on. I’m so disappointed since I trusted LG to make a good product based on the strength of their brand in other product categories. Users should not have to yell to hold a conversation because of an air conditioner in the room. The Midea and their previous Comfort-Aire AC units are much quieter brands. I wish I could return and get my money back but they just started using the unit since the weather has been mild and now it’s 6 days past the window to return for a full refund.

Would Not Purchase This UNIT

Unit worked ok for 4 months. It suddenly stopped cooling and started making a very loud clanking noise when the fan was turning. We returned that unit and swapped it for a new one thinking it was just a bad unit. The 2nd one did the EXACT SAME THING after 4 months. Now we are out $700 with no air conditioner. We do not have the box or receipt to return this one. I wouldn't recommend this unit at all.

I didn't like the fact that I had to send the first one back. I showed the driver all the oil on the box, he said that it probably came off the floor of the semi. It was oil from the compressor where it had been thrown around pretty hard during shipping and it had a hole in the back condenser. I am satisfied with the way that it works and cools my living room and kitchen area. I like the way it looks and it almost matches the paint. The only thing that I wish was that it was a little bit quieter. I think it will last a long time and I am satisfied with it

My only complaint is in the shipping. The unit was bent in on top which bent out the side. A few of the fins were bent , too. We were able to straighten the cabinet enough so that the front fit on. The unit is running fine and is cooling our 25x30 insulated shop well. So far, other than the shipping damage, we are very happy with our purchase.

Not New %26 Defective

Upon opening box, it was very clear that this item was not new. We decided to install it anyway figuring it didn’t matter if it was new or not as long as it worked. The unit did not work, the outlet was getting power but the ac wasn’t. The buttons on the plug weren’t clicking so I’m thinking that may have been the culprit. Either way, I scheduled a pickup to return the item. And will be ordering from Amazon instead.

Loud

They delivered it the wrong end up. So we had to let it sit. Then it got cool again so we didn't need it for a few weeks. Finally it warmed back up and we turned it on. IT IS LOUD. It also has made some weird noises a few times. I hope it lasts but I would not recommend it. It does cool but it does it slowly. Definitely not as good as the one we replaced. And I do not recommend the setting that turns it on and off automatically. We tried that and it turned on, less than 15 seconds later it turned off, then again in less than 15 seconds it turned on again and repeated until I said forget that. There is no way it reached the right temp by that time so I'm sure the temperature gauge is messed up or whatever it is that controls the turning off/on automatically. Overall, just not impressed. But we need something so it will have to do.

Are there any real reviews on this unit?

Are there any real reviews on this unit that were NOT bought and paid for? I live in a 900 sq ft room in TX with SE facing windows and it gets hot. I need a unit that is reasonably quiet as I work at home. Would this work? If you got a deal on this product, I won't believe the review.

Keep your cool with Sylvane

I took advantage of the free shipping deal on this and it made the 700 mile trip just fine. I needed an air conditioner to replace the 46 year old 23,000 BTU Frigidaire that finally quit, and it had to be exactly the same width as the old one at 26 inches. It was a perfect fit in my through the wall installation. The remote control is handy and the Eco mode is nice. It is a wee bit loud so don't put it near where you sleep. Since both the new and old units were well over 100 pounds, I used a motorcycle loading ramp to ease the process and save my back. Although this unit is rated at 18,000 BTU it does cool my 1000 square foot first floor okay. I set up a box fan on the floor to blow the cold air from the living room to the back of the house when we are ready to sleep. So I am saving on electricity by down sizing and modernizing with the new type compressor.

Great!!!

Purchased this LG window unit because our central unit went out during covid. This ac is great!!! It did take 2 men to put in window. We just got it hooked up today and its ice cold. Being in the deep south I needed this. It gets really hot here in Mobile!. I'm loving this unit though. My house is about 1500 sq. Ft. And so far it's doing the job. I would recommend this unit to anyone and would purchase again. It is also quiet. I did purchase the 4yr warranty just in case. It is a big unit so measure your window to make sure it's big enough to get in window. It weighs 149lb. And it cools great!! I was looking at 10k to replace my ac during covid. I'm glad I went this route. It's also a 230 volt so make sure you have the right outlet.

dissatisfied!!!

I bought this air conditioner for my 85 year old mother. I hired someone to put in her window and was very dissatisfied when we discovered that the plug on the air conditioner is not your standard 3 prong plug. We had out-of-town relatives arriving on the same day and could not use the air conditioner because it could to be plugged in to a standard 3 prong wall outlet. We had to go to a few stores to look for an adapter that was compatible as two prongs on the 3 prong cord were horizontal instead of vertical. I had some European adapters that I used on my vacation, however they did not work either because they did not fit the American style 3 prong outlet. The unit should be equipped with the adapter that it takes!!!! My relatives had to sleep with fans on fo the night in the middle of a heat wave which was NOT COOL!!!

[Rewarded Review] I cannot say enough how much I hate this thing

This air conditioner has been the absolute worst thing I have ever purchased in my entire life. $600 for the unit, another $100+ for delivery and install, I have put over $700 into this incredible disappointment.

Small, light A/C unit that works well for smaller windows and rooms. I was able to easily handle installing this into a horizontally-sliding window alone. Low fan speed is very quiet, not a lot of vibration noise compared to A/Cs I've purchased even 5 years ago. Air blows up, not out, so no freezing cold blasts onto your sleeping body while your toes roast. Has energy-saving mode and remote control with digital thermostat, features not typically found at a super low price point. (I purchased this A/C for about $155.) Energy-saving mode will cause the A/C to turn on and off as it needs to to maintain room temperature. If the temp outside is cooling down to room temperature, or just heating up beyond room temperature, you may find it turning on and off frequently until it settles to either off or running constantly. I've seen this with other units as well and I believe it's just the way the feature works in general. Extra insulation around the unit helps. There's a normal cool mode and fan mode provided as well if you don't like this. Window fins suck -- they don't actually screw into the A/C, they screw into your window sill so they kind of just flap around when you're trying to install it. The main A/C body doesn't screw into anything, but it's so light (~39 lbs) that I'm not concerned.

Got mine yesterday. Installed like any other window unit. Turned it on and heard the dreaded machine gun sound that others have been discussing. This was in my master bedroom so my wife and I couldn't sleep with it and ended up turning it off. Today, I took it apart to see if something was loose. Everything looked fine and the fan blades appeared to clear their surroundings. With the unit out of the window, it sounded great! No rattle! I thought that simply taking the cover off and putting it back on might have fixed the issue, but I was wrong. I put it back in the window sill and it starting making that sound again! Arrrgh! So why did the sound go away when I had it out and sitting on an ottoman? Hmmm... I went outside with my wife inside and starting pushing on the underside to see if the noise went away. Keep in mind that you can't hear the noise, at least on mine, from the outside. When I applied a little pressure directly underneath, the sound stopped completely. Removing the pressure and it came back. So I cut a piece of pressure-treated 2x4 and propped it up underneath. There's even a little groove for it like it was meant to be propped up. Performance-wise, this baby is awesome! It's also nice and quiet now that I fixed the noise. I can't give it 5 stars because it didn't work well out of the box and, judging by other comments, you may find the same thing. If you bought it and have the same issue, try the board. It might work perfectly!
