LG Dishwasher is Fabulous
We just got this LG Dishwasher, and it is a night-and-day improvement over our previous Samsung. Everything about it just feels better crafted. The door doesn't have to be slammed shut, it just clicks into place. My favorite feature is the third rack on the top for silverware - OMG, how I hated bending down to try to fit yet another fork into those baskets at the bottom! The appliance is super quiet - you would hardly know it exists, except when it sings its corny little tunes to you. The only negative I can think of is the digital display - it could be clearer. It's the type that has little LED lights, but the ones that are not lit are still faintly visible, so it is hard to tell whether the number you are seeing is an 8 or a 5 or a 3 or what. Minor point, and I am getting better at reading the numbers anyway.
[Rewarded Review] LG Dishwasher Died after 17 Months! DO NOT BUY LG!
DO NOT BUY LG DISHWASHERS! This expensive dishwasher died after 17 months. The display lights began flickering and then going crazy. I shut off the circuit breaker and turned it back on after an hour. The light display was out of control and all lights just flickered endlessly. Opened and closed the door and it stopped. Now the display still has problems, it refuses to complete washing cycles, it doesn't drain the water from the bottom of the machine, so it is absolutely useless. It never dried well. Believe all of the negative LG dishwasher reviews that are all over the internet. LG makes the worst dishwashers of all manufacturers. We've owned GE, Maytag, and most of the major manufacturers. Sales and service repair folks will admit the average lifespan is 6-7 years with these new dishwashers, and that's what we've experienced, except for LG.
Read the reviews, DO NOT BUY.
Oh wow, it’s so quiet! A real plus! Two different ways to wash utensils, the top shelf, except bulky whisks, no place for things like that. Utensils basket, nifty. The videos so amazing showing, clean dishes, don’t prewash. They said squeaky clean dishes and DRY. Unfortunately you will need to dry some of them with a towel or leave the unit door ajar and air dry. The racks, am I right, everything in its place, a place for everything. But like the videos there aren’t any showing the efficiency for placement and washing of baked on pots and pans, which we had to wash our baked on pots and pans at least 2x more and dry many of them with a towel. Sadly the unit inside remains wet and condensation builds up and doesn’t dry. I’d say this is a great washer if all you have is cups, little dishes, plates, saucers and eating bowls, using it. Unfortunately I miss my old dish washer..all I had to do was soak my dishes, before running the washer and it dried everything, it had a simple running system, but it was 23 years old. The new one is pretty, no fingerprints, if you can get the protective wrap off the front. Cute little chimes to cheer your day. I do understand some folks will love all the tweeters and fancy programs and they got the better ones of the bunch, or maybe didn’t notice the problems until they notice any. It’s my thoughts that this washer, was meant for folks who don’t cook with pots and pans, and a little hand drying is no problem. Drying is a big issue, after you take the dishes out, a week later the unit is still wet inside. You need to cleanse run it to clean it and then it’s wet again. I go old school, pull the lower rack out about 3 inches, the middle rack about 4 inches and lean the door on them slowly and walk away. The dry air in my home or the wind coming through my kitchen window will dry not only the dishes, but the dishwasher as well. This is huge disappointment, getting up in our higher years we just wanted something quiet, which we did get-yes. But we were looking for better cleaning without the extra need to assist the washer. I’d rather go hiking than do the dishes myself while helping the new washer. So, we’ve got a lot of disappointment with this dishwasher. This what’s going on with ours. Perhaps you’ll have better purchase. I did want to mention the issue I had with the website , dishwasher support- the tech gave me the impression that washing pots and pans in a dishwasher, was strange. He sounded confused. And there were no pictures or videos placement of pots and pans in the washer that he could find for us that might be online at the website or that he could send through email or have to use for reference. He gave the air of unpreparedness to assist and he would have to find someone and get instructions. I would not recommend this washer to anyone.
LG Dishwasher a solid choice
Review is for LG LDFN4542S Dishwasher. After reviewing Consumer Reports (website) we decided on this model as it ranked solidly in the midrange with consumer satisfaction, ease of use, features, and price. The model was on Thanksgiving week sales. After using the dishwasher for 3 weeks we're pleased. The top tray for silverware is easy and handy to load up so we took out the removable basket to free up more space. The display indicates the time remaining to which is fun and handy. We liked that it stores in memory the settings we used last so the next load just needs power on and start buttons to push. This model is wifi enabled which we haven't used yet but I suppose it could come in handy one day - either programming it or possibly pausing it if visitors came by. We are both hearing impaired so we have no idea if the 48db noise rating is accurate but supposedly its quieter than some other models. One caveat that other reviewers had noted is the bottom rack can go off the track but we solved that by simply exerting a little rightward pressure on the right side as you pull out or push in. We paid extra for PC Richard to install -took less than an hour and very professionally done. All in all we're happy with the choice. It adds a nice look to the kitchen with the stainless steel option we picked
Check for damage immediately after delivery
The dishwasher was very easy to install and runs great. However, if at all remotely possible, I would advise never to have any large appliance delivered by Lowe’s again due to damage of appliances. Lowes will tell you it’s a third party company and not affiliated with Lowe’s yet they show up in a Lowe’s truck and tell you about the Lowe’s delivery. After installing my dishwasher which was just delivered, I opened it full and noticed a large dent in the back of the machine from where a dolly may have been or pushed abruptly across the truck floor. Either way, I pushed the dent back in as far as I could and used a padded rubber mallet to pop the dent back out best as possible so the lower rack fits in position. My last delivery was a refrigerator which was delivered 3 times due to dents and scratches on the appliance. The third time I checked it in the truck and cleared them in the house. Delivery guys ripped the siding off my door frame trying to get it in the door and should have removed a fridge doors before coming in. SO FRUSTRATING!
Works great, looks beautiful
Love this dishwasher! Pretty easy to install yourself if you have time and patience. I’ve never installed a dishwasher before so here’s some information from my experience. This dishwasher comes hardwired (no plug) which I didn’t know most (all?) dishwashers come that way. Connecting the wires correctly was pretty easy following the instruction manual. Theres only two other connections one being the tube that’s already connected to the dishwasher that you need to connect to your pipe, and the other being another connection that goes under the sink. Both were easy to connect with the correct tools. The most tedious part is leveling the legs. The dishwasher cleans dishes great and the drying function works well. I like that this one didn’t have a heating element at the bottom (typically those break on dishwashers eventually). The third rack is cool although not necessary. Overall I’d highly recommend this dishwasher.
[Rewarded Review] High quality and Assurance from LG, once again.
The LG Dishwaser is very efficient and saves on electricity and water. We wanted to get away from manually washing dishes to save water on our utility bill. Also, it was time consuming and time better spent doing other tasks and chores.
Rating is for Lowe's installation service
This rating is for Lowe's installation service and not the product as I have not been able to use it since my purchase.
[Rewarded Review] Does not clean or dry.
I didn't realize I could buy a dishwasher that doesn't clean or dry my dishes. I think it should be called a rinser because thats about all it does. It sprays water on dishes, does not wash them and does not dry them. We have resorted back to hand washing and towel or air drying. Im being very serious when I say air drying on my countertop is a faster dry then this dishwasher gives. We only use this now to get dust off of dishes that we have stored and are only used when hosting a large dinner. Also 48db is still alot louder than my previous dishwasher that was 15 years old. I wish I would have fixed that one or purchased a different manufacturer. This is my 2nd LG dishwasher this year. I thought it had to be better than the first model because the price was twice as much. Nope same thing just more cycle options on how to not get the dishes clean. It goes through twice as much rinse aid yet I still have spots. You should only buy this as a gift for an enemy. Oh and the normal wash is 2 and a half hours long then about a 24 hour dry time.
Don't do it....
This dishwasher came with the house (new construction). It never dried anything, not a huge issue, just annoying. Now, it has been about 18 months since we moved in and the the lights flicker, it beeps like crazy, it looks like it is having a stroke. Some times it will finish the entire cycle, other times it will stop mid cycle. The labor is no longer under warranty, but the control board (which we assume is the problem) SHOULD be under warranty for 2 years. However, we were told that since we don't have a receipt for the purchase (our builder purchased and installed) they go off of production date which was almost a year before we moved in. So based on this date it is no longer under warranty. This machine is less than 2 years and has been nothing but trouble. LG will do anything to avoid following through with their warranty. Call any appliance repairman, they will all tell you to stay away from LG. Absolute garbage.
Do not purchase
There is only one thing wrong with this dishwasher, but it is so significant that it receives one star. The pros are, it cleans our dishes extremely well, it’s quite, its clean and it has plenty of features that help with washing time and drying to name a few. The cons are the racks. The top rack for silverware is too small. You have to have the perfect layout for silverware to use it. Tongs, spatulas, serving utensils will not fit in the rack. So the more traditional utensil basket on the bottom rack is required. Unfortunately, those utensils mentioned are too long so, they must be positioned at an angle to prevent the upper washing spray arm from hitting them. Next, the second rack used for glasses and small bowls has a center bump that doesn’t allow for dishes to sit securely. Too much time is invested in finding the best configuration for our dishes. Lastly, the bottom rack. This rack is the worst of the three and it is, in my opinion, poorly designed. The tines are too far apart and this causes issues for small plates and plates that are not perfectly round. The space between will cause issues with the bottom sprayers (hitting plates) In addition, the fold down tines are not secure. Plates of all sizes will cause the tines to fold over and break plates. With only four rows of tines, the space that it creates always has our dishwasher bottom rack not being used to its full capacity. I do not like this dishwasher and i wish i would have done more research to find the better one. In fact, all LG dishwasher racks are configured the same way. Do yourself a favor and find a dishwasher with additional bottom rack tines. This will provide more options for dish placement and less stress .
Dishwasher stinks- literally. No recourse.
Upon the first use, our LG dishwasher gave the dishes- particularly glassware- a strong smell similar to a riverbank with submerged, slimy roots and vegetation. At the beginning, the smell would sometimes not occur until about 20 minutes after the cycle ended, but it would last indefinitely on dishes put into the cupboard. The dishes would hold this odor, even when completely dry, unless we rinsed and dried all the dishes by hand or set them all out on the counter for 3 days to air out.
[Rewarded Review] Installation was horrible
My one star is mainly for the installation. First, the dishwasher was installed dented, which I didn’t notice until after the installers left as they kept the plastic on the front. I had to take the plastic off. When I did, I saw the dent. Second, the first time I ran it, a burnt plastic odor grew stronger and stronger until it filled my downstairs and upstairs. I didn’t know at the time, but another group of installers who came to replace it with a different dishwasher like 5 weeks later pointed out right away that it had been hardwired wrong by the previous installers! The electrical wires weren’t attached to the junction box, but were hanging out onto my kitchen floor under the dishwasher and the burnt plastic smell was from the wires melting the one time I ran it! That could have started a fire!!! I had further issues with the replacement dishwasher (those installers chipped my countertop by the dishwasher, dented my fridge, and installed the replacement dishwasher tilted backwards). I will never buy appliances from Best Buy again, or anything that involves an installation. Now for the dishwasher review, the one time I ran the dishwasher, the dishes weren’t all the way dry the next morning and there was a lot of water still in the dishwasher. Hitting cancel to discharge can help with sucking the sitting water out. It was also rather loud when running and extremely loud when discharging into the pipe under my kitchen sink, much louder discharging than the old Maytag that came with my house. (Having more drain hose looped down under the sink seems to help reduce the discharge noise on other dishwashers, so it probably would do the same for this one.) It was also easy to accidentally turn on when standing in front of it and working on the counter. It plays a little tune though so at least you know you accidentally turned it on. It was easy to open and use otherwise, so I am disappointed that I had to return it because of the horrible installation.
