Disappointed
This is my experience only. I bought the griddle as an alternative to other more expensive grills and its portability. This is the second product I owned from this company. A skillet which I returned and now this griddle. I disagree with the claim that the griddle is seasoned by the manufacturer. I followed their instructions that came with the griddle and as soon as I placed a steak on the griddle, it stuck like glue. I dealt with it, washed it, and let it cool. I than seasoned it myself over a 2 burner camping grill. 2 days later, fired up the camping grill, put the griddle on top, generous amount of oil on the griddle, placed the steak on the griddle, stuck like glue again. I threw away the packaging, unfortunately, so I'm not able to return it. I doubt that I will use it again.
Like it but ...
We bought this griddle as it is the perfect form factor for our new induction cooktop which has a bridge function. What we've found is that although it does heat up, the raised edges reduce its effectiveness because the bottom isn't in contact with the cooktop. So we have adjusted by using a higher power level initially and then lowering it. Admittedly, we have another pan that has an uneven bottom and it suffers the same problem in terms of time it takes to heat up. We didn't have that problem with our previous induction cooktop. So just be forewarned.
Works Great if you Dry Correctly
Works quite well and it is versatile for cooking all sorts of meals. I read some reviews about people’s cast iron rusting and giving the product low stars… let me tell something: What you need to do is after you clean it with water, is that you have to put it on a burner or heat for about 1-4 minutes depending on heat source after to EVAPORATE the water. Then, you put your oil on it with an old rag or something similar (don’t burn yourself) to season it. I use avocado or coconut oil personally and it has been fine. It won’t rust. I have had cast iron for years. This method works every time. Store it in a place where there isn’t any moisture. I just keep mine on my stove because I use it often. Pretty easy. Hope that helps! P.S. Same drying method for enameled cast iron as well… like the enameled Lodge Dutch ovens or the Le Creuset brand.
return item.
this is exactly what it states it is. it's a bit heavy. did not fit my stove properly. I returned it. I don't like how they printed their emblem on the top so food got all stuck in it. they're pre-seasoning wasn't that great on this one. this is going to be a personal choice for someone but for me it didn't work.
So glad I found this!
I'd bookmarked this grill online because it looked like the perfect item to use while camping with my propane stovetop. I ended up purchasing it in a Bass Pro location and have not looked back! I've cooked grilled cheese, bacon, burgers, and tonight I'm going to use the reverse side so my hot dogs don't roll! Definitely recommend, easy to clean and pack away.
Lodge cast iron is still classic.
Lodge cast iron worked for your grandfather. It’ll work for you.
I love Lodge items
I love everything Lodge. Lodge does have some better pricing if you order direct from them but I had a gift certificate. The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is because it says it’s a 2 burner griddle/ grill pan. I have 2 homes with 2 different makes and models of gas ranges and the pan is not large enough to fit over 2 burners. Other than that, it works well as a cooking surface.
Works for me
I purchased to use on a propane grill. I call it the PMB (poor man’s Blackstone). The griddles fit almost perfectly. I did season them just to make sure (they are pre-seasoned out of the box). Doing smash burgers the grease does build up (with no where to go) and there can be
Poor performance
I bought this pan several months ago and just began using it this past week. To say I’m not impressed would be an understatement. Pre-seasoned? Not nearly enough. Everything I cook on it sticks! Including sausage patties. I will continue to season as advised to see what happens but I would not recommend this product.
All Around Kitchen Tool
This is a kitchen must-have if you love cast iron. It’s a great tool for getting lots of bacon done at one time and it’s also great for grilling bread and buns for sandwiches. I’ve done steaks on it with great success and I plan to do hot dogs and grilled chicken next. It’s great for winter months when you just can’t get outside to grill. Or if your propane runs out right before you thought you might grill! It’s great to have on hand.
Perfect baking stone too!
This griddle is the perfect ?baking stone? for baguettes (fits 2-14? baguettes) and flatbreads. Preheat it along with your oven then us a peel or flipper board (I use a cedar plank) to move your dough to the oven. Gorgeous.
Disappointingly Uneven Results
I had high hopes for this Lodge griddle as a means to finally cook MORE pancakes at the same time so I'm not left by myself in the kitchen when everyone else has finished breakfast. I had just retired a long-used All-Clad square griddle that had finally lost its finish. I thought that sticking would be the problem with the Lodge. Instead it was the issue of it being too lightweight a surface. The heating was extremely uneven. I have a good gas range and the griddle was placed over 2 burners set to low-medium heat. Even pancakes centered over the flame were coming out half underdone/half charred. I think it's also a problem that it's a double-sided pan. The reverse grill pan side doesn't help the flat side keep consistently even heat or browning. I returned it and will go to either a heavier Le Creuset iron with enamel griddle like the small skillet I love, or back to a nonstick like an All-Clad with heavier core for even browning.
First Use, Pancakes!
Hey, this griddle is amazing and works great! I liek that people posted pics so here's mine. First use was blueberry pancakes. I got even heat across both burners, and served up delicious pancakes. They cooked quickly and evenly. Even the blueberries did not stick. Used butter on the grill in cooking. I lightly washed it before use, as it comes unboxed. Then used a small amount of coconut oil to coat it prior to use. I saw the review of someone who had their rust out. If you wash cast iron, you need to dry it immediately, then coat it lightly with oil. You can also revive your rusty griddle surface using that very same process.
Do not like.
I really wanted to love this pan; I have been using cast iron for decades and love it, however the only thing I've held on to is the highest-quality non-stick double burner griddle because it's just so easy for making pancakes, meals for two, and so on. I was HOPING this pan would replace it, however so far all it has been is frustrating. The surface area is a lot smaller than I was thinking. The description says 16-3/4 x 9-1/2, however the cooking area is actually about 16 x 9 ... MINUS the two corners that are cut out, as well as the engraved LODGE logo near one corner. It's very difficult to move it around while in use ... there's just nothing to grip on to safely. The walls are only about 1/4 tall, if that, so food spills out easily. In my former, high-quality non-stick double burner griddle I could easily cook eight 4 pancakes at the same time. This morning I just tried using this cast iron double burner griddle to make pancakes - I knew it would not fit 8, so I tried six. Mistake. Both batter and oil spilled over. Not a ton of it spilled, but NONE should have spilled. I could only successfully do 2 pancakes at a time, and made them a bit bigger than what I usually do. In general: just frustrating. It will definitely take some tweaking and getting used to. It's not useless ... it's just not nearly as efficient as what I am used to.I'm hoping I can use this pan while camping - either on the fire, or on the grill. That would redeem it a little in my mind. I'd love to hear what others are cooking in it ... how others are using it successfully; maybe that would give me a few more ideas.
Excellent buy!
I waited a few months before I posted as I wanted some time to cook with this. I have to say this griddle is the best one I have ever owned. I washed it and seasoned it again when I first got it, and it was good from the start. I tried an over easy egg as my first thing cooked on it. Unfortunately it did some. That was expected. I then used it to do hash browns, pancakes steaks and more. Well, after a month or so I tried an over easy egg and it did not stick at all! It has a better surface than my T-Fal pans. I mean nothing sticks at all! I use it nearly everyday and wipe it down with a soapy rag, then wipe it dry and then put a light coat of oil on it. Note-- It is best if you do all that while the griddle is still warm, it does not have to be hot. I expect this to be the last one I will ever need.
Nowhere near great because things stick easily
Don't like that things stick to it. I bought it to make hash browns because I use a pot that's amazingly non-stick to do it, but I also use it to make eggs in too, so it's inconvenient to make things that you're eating together at different times because only one pot or pan makes it amazingly. Plus, my pot isn't that big to properly fit and turnover hasbrowns. I spayed the flat side with oil, then put butter on it as I do to make hashbrowns in my non-stick pot, and after 5 minutes of putting the hashbrowns on, it was stuck to the bottom. Had to use Baking Soda, hot water, vinegar, and dish detergent with a medium and hard textured scrubber to get it off. Thought it was perfect due to the size and me searching Non-stick griddle on the Target app. Was severely wrong.
So-so
I bought this several years ago from Target and use it only on occasion. I just used it yesterday and my pancakes stuck terribly. I even had trouble turning them. I always oil it after use. Also, I always make sure it's thoroughly dry after cleaning. After wiping it dry, I heat it up again and oil it. I do remember that every time I've used it in the past, the griddle has heated unevenly. I'm cooking on a small 4-burner gas stove with only a couple inches between the burners. The grill goes across two burners. I do heat it up prior to cooking, hoping the middle will get hot but it never gets as hot has the portions right over the burners. Another problem is that either our kitchen floor is not level or the stove is not level so one side cooks better than the other and the oil tends to collect more on that side. Thus, there are contributing problems outside of the Grill itself. I find it easier to use two pans. I was up on a time I was using two pans and the griddle. Another problem with the flat portion of the griddle is that I often lose food over the edges.

Even cooking as expected with cast iron. Came seasoned so all you needed is to start cooking on it. Do not wash for great cooking. Not a smooth surface compared to high dollar irons but DEFINITELY not a hindrance. Grill side harder to clean obviously compared to griddle side but for grill side just pour off excess grease fast, scrub residue off with non soapy steel wool and wipe clean quickly with paper towels to remove any remaining grease residue. Ready to go again. We use it cast iron almost daily.
Great value for price
Solid griddle/grill.
Way exceeded expectations
I was researching a much more expensive Staub version of a cast iron grill when I stumbled upon this Lodge version. Not only was it a fraction of the price, but the flat design without any side walls is a huge plus. And Target's price is even substantially less than Lodge sells this for at their own factory outlet stores. In the Target stores, this was priced at $31.49 for some reason, but when I showed them the online price, they overrode it and gave me the $29.99, so be sure to verify the cost at check out. I wasn't sure how much I'd actually use this and really planned on having this for occasional grilling, but I use this every day, nearly for every meal that involves stovetop cooking! Eggs in the morning, grilled proteins and green beans for dinner, and much more. I don't think I've actually used a fry or sauté pan since I got this. And cleaning is super easy, just put it in the sink while it's still warm and rinse it off, then take a metal scouring pad to get the crusty bits off. Then just apply a thin layer of olive oil with a paper towel and it's ready for the next meal. So easy and the quality of the food is so much better on this. Veggies get a perfect char and it heats very quickly and holds that heat for a long time after you turn the burners off. Since this was my first experience with cooking on cast iron, I learned not to apply too much heat, as things got real smoky really quickly (using olive oil, which does have a very low smoke point I do realize). Setting on medium heat seems to get the right temp. The only thing I would caution is to check for level of each grill before taking it out of the store. When I got home, the first one I had purchased wasn't cast flat. It rocked slightly on the stove top and so I returned it. I had to go through a few on the shelf to find one that was truly flat. Other than that I have zero complaints. This inexpensive but quality piece has quickly become a staple in the kitchen and I look forward to many many years of use.
