[Rewarded Review] Good performance, some reliability, CS issues

Have used Netgear modems and routers with good results for some time. Switched to Xfinity VOIP phone, and this is one of the few modems capable. Worked fine for 8 months, then failed after a service outage and restart. Similar to others in NG forums, modem just bricked. Still under warranty. Cust Service was reason for 4 stars instead of 5. If I was just rating CS, it would have been 2 stars. Spent 2 weeks answering same questions multiple times, constantly got emails We want to close your case, etc. Finally got approval for return and replacement today (shipping at my expense). Warning: only buy from such as B&H If not listed as reseller on NG web site, warranty is void.

I work remotely and urgently needed to replace my old Motorola modem to increase my connection speed. I bought a $350 Netgear Nighthawk because it had great specs and is supposed to be a trusted brand. After connecting it to my Xfinity cable, it didn't work. I tried to set it up multiple times over two evenings and spent an hour talking to a Netgear consultant over the phone. He went through all the troubleshooting procedures, but it didn't help. Maybe overall it's a good device; mine was simply broken. I was annoyed since I really urgently needed it.

[Rewarded Review] Perfect solution for home network

I bought this NETGEAR Nighthawk 2.5Gbps Internet Speed Cable Modem with Voice (CM2050V) in conjunction with the NETGEAR Nighthawk AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 Router (RAX50). The CM2050V does not have an internal router/Wi-Fi function, which is what I desired. In the future, I did not want to be forced to upgrade both modem and Wi-Fi/router functions when one or other became outdated or defective.

This modem is not fully compatible with Xfinity. However the compatibility issue does not appear to be on Netgear's end. Xfinity is intentionally degrading the performance of this modem. Upload speeds are 1/5 as advertised by Xfinity.

Gigabit speeds and voice. That is why I purchased this device and it has NOT been a disappointment. My connectivity and speeds surpassed the rental modem/router combo that my ISP provided. No more monthly fees and I am free to surf without jitters, freezing, crashes, etc. The app and online support from NETGEAR are industry standards for both Home and Home Office needs. I highly recommend considering this device as part of your high-speed internet with voice network hardware.

Enabling the CM2050V modem via the Xfininity app is super easy. Download speeds on wired connections were over 1,000Mbps. Wireless around 500... almost double what I'm getting from the rented Xfinity modem. Seemed too good to be true. Then about a month after purchase, I would lose internet, requiring a reboot of the modem. After reboot, everything is fine. This happens about every 5-10 days. Xfinity says it's a Netgear problem, since I'm not renting their modem. Netgear says it's an Xfinity problem. Search either the Xfinity or Netgear forums. This is a well documented issue. After about 5 months, the second phone line stopped working. I've been going back and forth with both Xfinity and Netgear to resolve it. Both phone lines work fine when connected to Xfinity's modem, but not the CM2050V. So, to summarize, when it works, it's great. When it doesn't, it's garbage.

[Rewarded Review] Netgear Nighthawk Failures

Purchased 9/19/23 and like many other 1 star reviews, mine failed in 3 1/2 months. Lights started blinking fast and no internet connection. At least Netgear support line answered the phone quickly. They said it overheated and failed. That’s ridiculous in 2023 that the industry can’t make a widely used electronic product that overheats in 3 months and fails. Of approximately 350 reviews, 35 were 1 star and almost all were failure. That means approximately 10% of these fail. Netgear sent me another one but I feel the chances of it lasting years is low and the warranty will expire in one year. Then I’ll be stuck even though I bought the most expensive modem to avoid this very issue.

Replaced comcast awful gateway. Easy set up. Was a comcast approved modem. ( they have a list on their website) combined with Orbi WiFi. Constant flawless internet was the result! FYI Comcast will tell you that if you don’t use their gateway you can’t use their wireless cable boxes because they will not update. I know someone that has used them for years with no problem. But getting comcast to put wireless cable boxes in their system for you could be a problem.

[Rewarded Review] NetGear Nighthawk model, solid performer.

Purchased this modem two years ago and wanted to see if it was worth the purchase, giving the modem some time to run in my home. I was fed up with the rented equipment from my provider, underperformed. Purchased the NetGear Nighthawk 32 and it has been a solid performer for the past couple of years. Of course, bought a separate router. The modem is extremely easy to set up. Basically, connect to your cable connection, power and you are good to go. Still running, no need to reboot monthly or any other nonsense. Works as expected and I recommend this modem if you are also fed up with your rented equipment from your service provider.

Previously I owned a Netgear CM1150. Comcast kept on saying the modem could not handle the speed I purchased. I have SuperFast which is 800 downstream. I planned on waiting for Docsis 4.0 to come out later this year but could be delayed in my area.

Depends on Provider Speed (1150V vs 2050V)

I had the Netgear CM1150V cable modem and kept getting emails from my provider (Comcast) that my modem wasn't taking advantage of the speeds being sent to me in my plan. My plan is just under one Gbps, and the CM1150V handled it well. But, since speed was close to the limit of the modem, I upgraded to this CM2050V cable modem.
