Open front that needs to toe kick to be tiled

If you're looking for a nice sleek look, this is not it. I have no idea why anyone would want an awkward open front to this base. Goofy design. Plan on tiling 4" up the front of this pan, making the smooth look of beautiful cast iron instantly look tacky when you have to make the decision to either use your floor tile or shower wall tile to fill the gap. OR, you could plan on recessing it, which means cutting down your floor joists after you support them and dealing with that whole mess. None of which is included in the instructions. Such a giant disappointment.

Very Poor Packaging

I ordered online and picked up this shower base at my local HD store. See attached picture showing the shower base in the back of my pickup truck. Zoom in to see all the debris and grime that came with the shower base. I removed few stickers to compare the original white surface with its surrounding area. The shower base came open top, no cardboard, plastic or film. Just awful. This is not the packaging one expects from a $1,500 shower base. The second picture shows a small chip. No wonder.

I was looking for a traditional alternative to a plastic or composite shower pan for our 1915 bathroom. It’s gorgeous in the biscuit color and it matches Daltile K175. It’s heavy at 275 pounds and took two big guys to bring it upstairs. My plumber was impressed with the quality and wondered why more people don’t choose them. Finding a polished nickel drain trim kit was a special order, so think ahead if you are doing the traditional polished nickel if the pre 1930 home. The remodel is still in progress…..

Poor delivery

The product was just what I wanted. It was the delivery that was poor. The trucking company never called to inform me that a delivery was coming. I found the cast iron shower pan next to my mailbox opened and uncrated but in fine shape. I have no idea how long it was by the street.

Second time using this shower base!! Worked great, classic design and easy to take clean.

Great shower base to compliment porcelain walls!

The cast iron shower base was just what I wanted to match the porcelain shower walls.

This is one of the best decisions I have made for our new shower. Perfectly made, and will last a lifetime. It is very heavy, but once in place, it is not going anywhere. Looks great. Nice non-skid surface.

Does NOT have a threshold apron as seen on video

The installation video on the Home Depot web site shows the installation of a 60" wide cast iron shower base with a threshold apron. The 48" wide Kohler cast iron shower base does NOT, I repeat does NOT have a threshold apron.

HEAVY!! BUILT TO LAST!

Built to last generations! It comes on a wooden pallet, w/minimal packing. Inspect it for scratches or chips because of the exposed surfaces. Our plumber recommended the cast iron over acrylic for longevity. HD employees helped us load it, but the unloading was on us. We rigged 2 - 2”x6”s as a ramp off the pickup tailgate, and slid it down. It worked fine, but better to have 2 strong guys or you’ll injure yourselves. Nice shower pan but the shipping was a nightmare

Purist® 48" x 36" single threshold center drain shower base

Pan arrived with chipped corners and crack.

Bought two of these. One had a chip and large crack. The other had a chip in the corner. Not very noticeable. But for the cost I would expect perfection.

great alternative to tile and grout on the shower floor

Very happy with the look. Should be much easier to keep clean.

Great unit but it's for recessed applications...

Initial picture was difficult to see that it's for recessed applications. Good quality unit and Kohler cast is awesome but now I'm scrambling to add a filler to the front edge for a traditional application.

Excellent shower pan

Remodel installation December 2020. We are delighted by the size, stability and lower threshold of this product. Waffled between this and an acrylic model but this was worth the higher price.

Takes forever to get / comes chipped

Very poorly packed by Kohler - wood crating exposes entire top. Sides of crating allows side edges to be chipped - which would be unsightly and allow rust. Now have to return and wait another 2 months??? Will just go with a KBRS system. Kohler is just not up to par.

We are pleased with the initial quality of the shower base. It arrived with no damage that we can see despite the shipping crate basically having fallen apart. For such a heavy item you would think that they would put more than just two straps on the crate. Kohler could improve the packaging. That said, the base is built like a tank with not even a scratch. The quality is superb in comparison to some acrylic bases we have seen. And no need for a mortar bed!

Fantastic piece, yet Kohler website stated that this particular product is made in the USA. It is not. Stamped from China on the bottom. Regardless, it looks like the quality is fantastic. Delivery was excellent and right to my door. Do not hesitate to purchase this, as it is seemingly superior to anything that is not cast-iron.

We had an unexpected bathroom remodel after a failed tile shower pan. Not only is this shower base beautiful, but it is built like a tank! Make sure you get the Kohler Drain for it!

This product is worth the price and looks beautiful. Will last like an old cast iron bath tub.
