If your tub water handle won't fit as there's is too small a gap, get this 'Deep rough-in kit by Kohler. This will extend the pipe to allow the handle to fit properly as there is insufficient space between the valve/handle and escutcheon plate.

Problem Solver!

The tile man made the hole for a new Kohler shower valve too small and too deep...in porcelain tile! I looked up the rough-in extension kit and called Kohler. A helpful, knowledgeable person said it would work. I ordered it and only had to drill ONE small hole (with a $7.00 Milwaukee 1/4 inch Diamond Drill) so the retaining clip would fit. Done. Perfect fit and problem solved. No pictures because my wife is in there taking a shower. Note of caution - read the instructions carefully, about 10 times. then FOLLOW THEM.

This thing saved my bacon. Install your shower mixing valve at right depth for finished wall or else you'll need this.
