Ordered 2 of these. The 3 star rating is because one was in a previously opened damaged box and had a crushed corner. It was obviously a return and I am appalled it was re-sold. I opted not to return it. To much hassle. If not for that it would be a 5 star review. Easy to assemble and sturdy yet lightweight to move around.

Not very well made. Hinges were nothing more than a couple of rubber strips hope they hold up for a couple of years. Difficult to assemble. Now I understand why they were on clearance.

Structurally sound once assembled, but assembly is a challenge. First it takes two, one to hold as you attach the securing rods and plated. The diagram is not as clear as it might be as to which is side A and side B. The top fits snugly, well, and it appear to be waterproof in the rain. I would buy it again. It holds 4 large Home Depot buckets or 4 tanks of propane.

It was relatively difficult for me to put together by myself - I needed another person to prevent the sides from falling over. And then after putting it together, it didn't really work out for what we wanted it for. We wanted to store birdfood in it outside. I locked it, but mice gnawed holes in it within the week. Otherwise, it's fine. Looking forward to storing something non-edible in it.

Stylish and meets the purpose! I had a lot of small items that needed to be tucked away into a nice bin and this certainly met its purpose. It's very lightweight, easy to clean. If there's anything that I would complain, it would be the bottom of the bin as I'm not sure if the constant heat will cause the support structure of the bottom to break or give way. In my area, where the weather is constantly hot and humid, you will need to scrub it down every so often, to prevent mold from accumulating on the exterior.

The deck box is not as strong as expected for a Rubbermaid product, in fact it's seems flimsy. It is not airtight - you can see light in the gaps where pieces meet. It's appearance is best from a distance - close it looks like light plastic, and has marks from where it was scraped in its shipping box. It looked great on-line in the pictures, and the dimensions were perfect for the space we had. But, we're disappointed.

I purchased this to store BBQ items (utensils, charcoal, etc) on my patio. The size is good and accommodates my storage needs, but the product is quite flimsy and not well engineered (design and structure wise) for it's size.

The box is ok for what I needed it for (storage of outdoor chair cushions). It is pretty big, bigger than I thought, actually, for my small patio. The problem was, one of the sides was warped and it would not fit together when assembling. My husband finally got it to fit together enough to use a rubber mallet to get the hardware in, and it managed to stay together, although I hesitate to move it around much. To me, that is just poor quality control. Doesn’t the manufacturer check these things? Also, the box arrived with one end open. Thankfully, none of the parts fell out! I would have sent it back, but I had it delivered and it was all but totally put together when the warping was discovered. Made a very easy assembly VERY difficult.

Assembly was more difficult than expected. Considering it’s a box - I was expecting the pieces to come together like a piece of furniture. Instead, you’re sliding pieces of plastic together that don’t want to be slid together. Screwing into plastic. Using these metal clips to keep the sides together. And hoping all the pre-drilled holes line up (they didn’t). Further, the corners are open at the bottom leaving entry points for critters.

Absolutely not great…..

I have regarded Rubbermaid very highly over the years, but not anymore. This item is going to be used outdoors. With the design of this storage box it doesn’t look tight enough all around. I assembled it according to the directions and it is as tight as it can be. Looking inside after assembly I can see the patio bricks it is sitting on in all four of the interior bottom corners. For me, this just indicates an entryway for insects, mice, and moisture. I purchased this storage box to protect my patio items, not share them with the outside intrusions. For $129 plus tax I have been way overcharged. I’ll make some efforts to modify the openings and make the best use of it that I am able to. But, never again.

Nice box- difficult assembly

I usually roll my eyes at "difficult assembly" comments. This is a nice box, but if you can look elsewhere just for the sake of your sanity in putting it together, you may thank yourself. The directions are clear, but the plastic parts don't line up well. Mine came a little warped, as parts for assembly items usually do. For obvious reasons, an outdoor box needs to be tight. But I've never put one together (I've done 4 others plus an outdoor trash bin, none of them Rubbermaid) that required this configuration of hardware. I am super strong and generally piece things together meant for more hands than just my two. This requires more brute strength than the above-average homeowner (I'm a ripped athletic trainer) and causes much frustration. I usually don't drink mid-week. But, once it's put together, lovely box.

could not finish assembly

The size was perfect for where I want to place it, but assembly was a pain. The last pieces just would not line up. Three engineering degrees and two hours of trying couldn’t get it done. I finally swore myself out and returned it to the store. My local store was great! They refunded my money, no questions asked. The problem with the design is that the four sides are made out of just two pieces. You fold the pieces around, and they are supposed to meet in the middle of the two sides. You end up fighting the pieces that are constantly trying to unfold. Three u-shaped clamps are supposed to be inserted in holes in the panels, top, middle, and bottom. You end up with overlapping seams running top to bottom in the middle of the sides of the box. It doesn’t look great, and the problem was the last two clamps couldn’t be inserted because the holes would not line up. Signs on the box claim a reduction in the number of pieces has made the box easier to assemble, but less parts means the ones that are left have to line up or you are out of luck. I cannot recommend this box. Too hard to assemble and very visually apparent overlapping pieces on the sides are not appealing.

Decent product for the money. Knocked off one star as it doesn't have a lid-lift like my larger one. Also because there is no real consistency across the product line for style/finish. This is the same product and "style" line as my larger box but a different wicker pattern, so they don't really match. Given that the larger one was bought within the last 6 months it kind of bugs me. Not a big deal, but they sit right next to each other on my deck. Plus side it is really simple to assemble.

Can't believe it

I have been a Rubbermaid storage customer for over 40 years. What happened to them and why does Home Depot sell their products? My husband who remodeled homes for over 40 years and has a tool for every occasion had a terrible time putting this together. Hammers, flashlights and brute strength were used to put this box together. There is absolutely no guarantee to keep moisture out during all seasons. It was like putting together a puzzle with matching pieces that don't line up with each other. Let's talk about the directions? There were only pictures and no captioning but, oh my gosh, lots of arrows.

Most of the assembly was done by one person. When attaching the floor, it required 2 - one to adjust and hold the sides to square the corners allowing the second person to push down the braces. Once assembled, it does a nice job of keeping rain out and is large enough to hold packages (am using it as a delivery box). My only complaint is that to open, you have to lift up on the lid corners, not in the center (which is where it looks like you should open it). I added decal arrows on the corners so delivery people would know how to open the box. Once that was done, it worked great.

Rubbermaid 74 gal. medium deck box is easy to assemble, is made of sturdy materials, and is quite spacious. It was easy to assemble by one person, but it may be easier to have a second person to help every now and then. Sometimes, the walls don't align well and need some manipulation, but eventually slip in place. Do not overtighten the screws as it may damage the hole. We use it to store the kids' toys and it is easy to access. The lid has a mechanism so it doesn't open all the way, but stays up. You can also put a lock on it. It is not sturdy enough to sit on, but it is good looking storage. Overall, happy with this product and hoping it would last many years.

Overall, thumbs up on this storage box. Assembly was a little bit wonky. The assembly instruction pamphlet was 99% illustration, virtually no words (other than the admonishment not to over tighten the screws - which is good advice - you're dealing with metal screws into plastic). A few more words would probably would have been helpful. Assembly took about 1/2 hour. All of the panels were clearly marked, which was very helpful. The design is interesting. Half of each of the side walls is connected to the front and back panels (see the pics). The two halves of the side panels are then connected with these metal U shaped connectors. Not sure of the engineering decisions behind this design, it made assembly a bit more difficult, but the box is certainly sturdy. The materials and all the hardware seem heavy duty and do appear that they will not wear or break over time. We haven't had any rain yet, so I can't attest the water tightness yet. So far, we're very happy with this box and would recommend it,.

[Rewarded Review]

The cardboard box this Deck Box came in was 36" x 10.25" x 31.25" 31lbs, which is light enough for one person, but easier with two because of the awkward 36" length. The deck box itself is also light enough for one person but easier for two to carry. Although it is only 33 ½” wide, it is almost 28” tall and wide and has no handles. I found it easiest to just wrap my fingers around the bottom edge which meant the box was in front of my face (I am 5’ 3”). However, now that it is in its place, I don’t plan to move it.

The Rubbermaid 74 gallon Medium Resin Deck Box comes packaged complete with assembly hardware and easily followed graphic instructions. The assembly took about 25 minutes from box opening to completed item. The packing carton indicates that it has 69% fewer components. It must be fewer screws or a small item.
