Had to replace twice
I bought this lock a couple years ago. I had it for a year and the lock started slipping, not catching to unlock. Sometimes I’d have to put the code in multiple times for it to catch and unlock. I finally got sick of it, called the company and they sent a replacement. It’s been a year and it’s happening again. Same issue. I haven’t seen other people make this same complaint about this lock, but it happened to me twice now and I am definitely replacing with another brand.
Unfortunately this isn't doing the job. Initially my husband thought he had installed it wrong. He called Schlage customer service and they walked him through a new installation and a factory reset. It still doesn't work right. It will occasionally just not open. You will hear the gears turning, but the door doesn't unlock. It's been a royal pain!
I had a door handle that did not have a locking mechanism. I wanted a deadbolt but I did not want to drill another hole above the handle. This deadbolt lock was perfect as it came with a handle so that I could re-use the existing hole. Installation was very straight forward. I also liked the fact that you could release the lock. Without this lock release, you would have to enter the code every single time to open the door, which could be a hassle if you had to pass through in and out multiple times.
Everything perfect. Shopping was easy, lowest price, Quick shipping. It doesn't get any better than that. This is our second unit. We had one on the front door and loved it. I bought this for the back door. Many reviewers were disappointed that it didn't have a key lock in case the battery failed. Well, that is intentional to stop people from entering with a bump key. I figured that it was very unlikely for two locks to have battery failures at the same time so I was safe installing this one. But to my surprise, they have improved it by giving you jump battery pins that will allow you to operate the lock even when the battery is dead by using a 9 V battery in your hand and holding it up to the pins. Very clever. I wholeheartedly recommend this lock.
Great product!
I ordered this for my mom and we love it. It arrived quickly and was well packaged. We don't have to worry about everyone having a key to her place and it will also work great if she needs emergency medical assistance. It was easy to instsall and is easy to operate. You can hear a slight click when you punch in the number so you know it registered it. the door knob opens when lifted up or pushed down. The numbers are easy to see and I can type the numbers in it with thick gloves on. I would highly recommend this seller.
Why to Avoid this lock unless you have a second way to enter the building
Great looking lock but lacks other important Schlage features. There are four issues that together are deal breakers for home use. 1) no key is available to use when the battery goes dead. 2) no WiFi connectivity to view the lock status or use to lock or unlock remotely. 3) without WiFi you have no way of knowing the battery status or remaining life. You can replace it periodically to be safe or remove and test it with a volt meter. 4) it uses expensive 9volt batteries instead of inexpensive double A’s like the Schlage WiFi locks. I should have returned it but decided to keep it because it was a decent price point and I used it on my garage side entrance, so if the battery goes dead I can enter via the garage door opener. Otherwise you need a second 9 volt battery on hand to use as a jumper battery outside on the tiny contacts that protrude below the keypad to power up the lock and open the door. Less
I might choose a different lock
I read a review that stated the lock is always locked and I kind of disregarded it. After installing the lockset I now completely understand his complaint. You have to punch the code in EVERY time you close the door behind you. So you have to either leave your door ajar or enter the code every time even if you know you are going to be coming and going. Other that, it works flawlessly. Good construction, easy to follow instructions and there are youtube videos available if you prefer that route.
Security for inside doors
I have purchased and installed these before for an office building I maintain. They install in the holes the usual door knobs reside in, install is quick and easy (especially after you've done one) and they secure areas quite nicely. The cool thing is the battery is accessible on the backside, so if the battery goes dead there's a simple remedy; contact points on the outside for a 9v that allows you access so you can then replace the dead battery. Very impressed with these.
locked out
Previous experience w/ schlage products has been good over the years. I've always felt they were superior to other manufacturers till I got this product. I was immediately uneasy when I noticed there was no backup key & after just a few months I noticed the outside lever would sometimes not function despite the interior thumb knob being in the open position till finally one night I found myself locked out in the cold despite the light flashing green when I entered the correct code. Recently I installed a similar Kwikset model for a customer & marveled at what superior product they had become. Simpler to install better designed & comes w/ a key for backup. Times change, products change & I'm changing to Kwikset from now on. What a disappointment Schlage. When I went to the customer help page under lever won't lock/unlock section it instructs you to unlock the door & disassemble the unit, How the bleep do you do that when you're stuck outside? Less
No back up when it fails
I have 3 of these locks. First couple years, all was good. Recently I had one fail which other than cost out of pocket, it was not the end of the world. Then I had another fail shortly after which was my only door and access into my garage space. Much more catastrophic. The warrantly process is a pain because you need to ship the failed lock back to Schlage and in the mean time must go buy another door lock to secure your property. I will not be buying another one of these. The concept of a keyless lock is great but I’d only get one with a key back up from now on.
Works Good, but Doesn't Live Up to Expectations
This lock works perfectly fine. Very well constructed and smooth operation. However, one really bad annoyance is that the level on the inside is still able to function even though the lock position is on. This can get really annoying as almost all traditional lock levers won't allow to open the door from either side if the lock is turned. For the price this lever is selling for, you would think they would allow for an option to have this feature work like traditional ones or have the ability to adjust it. For this selling price, better options are out there. Very disappointing.

I have this same Schlage lock on 5 doors - 4 exterior and 1 interior storage door that we rarely lock (only when we rent our home via Airbnb). We’ve owned them over 4 years, so I feel like an expert user at this point - and my relationship is love/hate. First, the positive: This lock is easy to install and it has a nice, minimal look. Sadly, however, my experience is that the locking mechanism fails after 6 months to 1 year. The keypad continues to function but the lock will spin in place, leaving you locked out of whatever you’re trying to get into. This is a massive problem. One of the locks is on an exterior storage room with no other access. Another lock is on a garage that intentionally does not have an exterior keypad for the garage door for security reasons. We have learned to keep an extra garage door remote inside our home so that we can access our garage and cars should this lock fail...which it does. Frequently. I did file a claim with Schlage’s warranty dept once but it took 3-4 weeks for the new lock to arrive (which feels like forever when you can’t access a door!) so the last few times one has failed I’ve just bit the bullet and paid for my own replacement. Other problems with this lock have included keypads that simply won’t light up when you press the Schlage key, leaving you to guess which numbers you’re pressing in the dark. This is especially fun when it’s cold and/or raining. If I had it to do over again, I would probably pay more for a keypad with raised numbers so you didn’t rely on daylight or the little built-in night light. I don’t know if Schlage as a brand generally has bad keypad locks, or If it’s just this model (although my guess is that Schlage uses the same or similar mechanism in all their locks), or if all keypad locks from all brands are unreliable. All I know is that I do love the convenience when it works, therefore I put up with the hassle when it doesn’t. Less

This thing is a useless piece of crap! True, it's beautiful and installation is easy, but the sucker failed the same day I installed it. I went out to take the trash and the door locked behind me as it should have, I came back, entered the code, light turned green and nothing! Tried again... it accepted the code (the original user code that came with the unit!!!!) and again nothing door wouldn't open. I was so lucky my parents were visiting and were inside the house to let me back in!!! Yes, of course I tested it with the door open when I first installed it and it worked as expected. But the electronic mechanism failed after a couple of hours... or maybe it was the battery. Either way, it's unacceptable. It's the least reliable door lock I've ever encountered. Do NOT recommend at all. Less
Straightforward electronic, easy to install, easy to use.
Straightforward electronic lock. Matches the other hardware and locks in the same Schlage line. Installation is very simple. Works as advertised. It is important to note that this device is entirely "keyless" and does not use a key to manually operate in case of dead batteries. On the one hand, this can't be picked or bumped like a key lock. Instead, there are two terminals for a standard 9V battery to provide a temporary boost of power to operate the lock. It operates on a 9V battery (instead of 4 AA's as in Schlage's other touch screen locks), and passcodes are limited to 4 digits (instead of up to 8 as in Schlage's other touch screen locks). Provides great security in situations that don't require a deadbolt or don't require numerous or long access codes.

This is a cheapy lock that I would not be using on an outside door. I use it on my master bedroom door to keep the kids out if they get curious about things in there such as my guns and pepper spray. The guns are locked up but still, I don't need them getting curious as one of them will be staying home by himself during the day all summer. Install was easy. The thing that threw me off about this was how it operated. There are two modes. One is that this just acts like a regular door latch where you open it from the outside without entering any codes. The other mode is where the outside handle is disconnected internally so that if you rotate it nothing happens. These """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""... Will not open when unlocked, code doesn't help
I bought and installed two of these locks because they have an actual handle on them.A few weeks after installing them the one into the master bedroom didn't want to open. We thought it was because the code was interested wrong. Thankfully the door was not closed completely so we were able to push it open. Once on the other side it was discovered that the door was not locked, but the latch was not moving. Fiddled with it and couldn't get it to replicate the malfunction. A few days later the lock did it again. This time someone was on the inside. Seemed to fix it by lifting up on the handle. Now.tye other lock is NOT working and I'll have to break the door or rip the lock off to get through. No amount of nice talk is working. Worst part is that it's the beginning of the weekend and they are not open for trouble shooting issues. Less

The lock has a flaw in the programming, not sure if it is this model or all Schlage electronic locks. If you unlock the lock from in the house while holding the inside handle down it will occasionally not engage the outside handle (still locked from the outside) also it will not allow you to use the codes from the outside. If you close the door expecting it to be unlocked it won't work. The only way to open the door if this happens is from the inside of the house. Hope you have another way in. I have 2 of these locks and both will do the same thing. Always check the outside handle when leaving the lock in the unlocked position.Knowing the above, the lock is easy to install and program and I would recommend it just remember to check that it is unlocked before closing the door outside Less

so, I have purchased 3 Schlage locks, a samsung combo lock, and a mechanical combo lock. I don't think any schlage lock should be able to get 5 stars, due to their inability to use 5 digit codes or prevent brute-force. come on, it's the easiest firmware feature possible. 4 digits would be sufficient if there was some ability to detect someone brute forcing it. it would only take someone a couple hours to brute force all possible combinations. every additional 4 digit combo you add makes brute forcing even faster; better hope one of your combos does not start with a 1 and the attacker starts low and works up, otherwise it will take about 10min to break in. the only thing likely to stop someone from brute forcing is the battery life, which isn't the best, but isn't terrible. this particular model has some additional issues to drop another star off. first, the buttons have no bumps are other way to tell you're on the center. it's just a flat panel. at least the other schlages have tactile buttons. second, the buttons often double-press. they didn't debounce the buttons well enough, so about 20% of the time I have to clear the combo and press it again. there is no back light either, just a bright LED that isn't that great at illuminating the panel. features a good combo lock should have: - 5 or more button combos (most samsung locks have this) - a cooldown period if you guess wrong too many times. (most samsung locks have this) - an external 9V connection in case your battery dies (again, samsung has this) - easy to locate buttons in the dark (samsung uses a touch screen, which isn't the best) the only thing this models does well, is the battery is housed on the inside of the house, so it wont get as hot or cold, preventing possible winter freezes. the schlage models with tactile buttons house the battery outside... hope you don't have cold winters where you live. crap. stay away
This unit was easy to install, and worked good for about 3 months. I use it on my mancave and when it rain thats where my dogs stay. i have an outside kennel for nice days. One day this unit decided not to open. the schlage support is a joke as their documentation says to open the door and check the lever....really? i cant get in and thats your suggestion? Long story short...I ended up kicking the door down to get my dogs out resulting in lots of damage to the door frame. I am having Schlage pay for all repairs to my house. Would never think about replacing it with the same item again. even returned a normal schlege handle and got a diff brand after this.
