Perfect for 509 sq ft garage

Purchased this to heat a 500 sq ft detached garage. We have a water supply in there, and the pipes froze and burst last year when the heat tape failed. I did insulate the garage door and walls before installing the heater and it’s now running at the lowest setting, which is keeping the temperature at 65f while it’s 28f outside.

We bought 2 and seem to be working great with the cold weather we are having! Do notice one case seems to get warmer to touch than the other one, even running the same amount of time. Not sure if that is usual for them to all respond differently.

Nice heater for what it is, at an Attractive Price Point

I bought this heater to replace an ancient Reznor heater in my one car garage. The Reznor worked well but left a lot to be desired when it needed servicing, which mercifully wasn't often. Getting the old heater down was the worst part, this heater is much lighter and hanging it took only 5 minutes using my exiting hanger system (a piece of unistrut spanning two rafters and a 1/2" carriage bolt) it is a small heater so it took it about an hour to bring the garage up to 55 degrees. Once the temp is at the set point it easily maintains the temp at 55 kicking on for a short period several times a day. I mounted a 4" x 4" electrical box on the outside of the heater and pre-wired it into the box. It made installing it a lot easier, there are 8 small screws holing the cover on the wiring compartment. By adding the electrical box it made wiring easy without removing the bottom of the heater 8 feet up in the air.

Basement Heater

Purchased this 5k watt heater for my unfinished basement and it works exactly as I needed. I wired it with 10/2 UF cable and a 30 amp switch in between the breaker and heater. My basement averages 63 degrees year round and running this in high (5k watt) with the thermostat set just under 3/4 brings my basement to around 73 degree's within 20 mins and then the heater cycles from there. We work from home so it takes that nip out the air. With the switch connected, we just use the switch to turn it on and off without messing with the thermostat setting. I would purchased again.

New install heater keeps shutting down

I have installed a new CZ220 in my garage and it keeps shutting down after about fifteen/twenty minutes. If I rotate the on/off switch it will start back up. My first thought would be that it is overheating and the sensor is shutting it down. It does this in all three modes, 3K, 4K, and 5K however there is a considerable run time difference between the 3K and 5K setting. Two car garage, twelve foot ceiling, sheet rock and insulated. Mid Minnesota area, cold and snow. Standard two wire plus ground 10AWG solid core wire, 2 pole 30 amp breaker, 240 volt at the heater. I have a second heater that I will be installing in the opposite corner latter today, totally separate circuit.

The little heater that could

Don't let the small size fool you. This little beast heats my 3 car garage. You use a "comfortable feeling" to set the thermostat. I would prefer an actual thermostat, but I would still buy this again. The price of this model is very economical for what you get. I haven't had it installed long enough to discuss its efficiency, but I'm a proud owner so far.

Good but dont expect too much

Easy to hook up (had electrician run a 220 circuit first), easy to use, seems like a good value for the price. It puts out a good amount of heat, but you need to make sure you have good insulation and no air leaks, otherwise it struggles to keep up. Its essentially a larger more powerful space heater. Once I got the insulation up and the air leaks sealed it works like a charm, but prior it struggled to keep up with a 19x24 foot garage. Now it cycles on every 30min for about 15min, even during a week of negative Chicago temps, and then shuts off. Before it would run almost non stop. Electric bill increased about $50 keeping the garage at 55deg. for a month (knob at halfway). Happy with the purchase, but if you need more heat I would recommend a gas heater.

Great Heater

This is an excellent heater. It feels very solid, and warms up my 20x20 2 car garage quickly. I have a low 8' ceiling, and live in SC, so if it's 30 outside, my garage is about 45 - 50 degrees. The walls and ceiling are insulated, but has a cheap uninsulated metal door. I can warm it up to about 65 degrees in an hour or two. Due to the low ceiling, I mounted mine closer to the ceiling, which is allowed in the instructions, and possible with the bracket without any modifications. I'd never heard of L&M before I searched for the best price on this heater, but they shipped quickly, and it was a very smooth transaction. If I were using this heater more often, I'd add a contactor, transformer, and programmable thermostat.

Very good, but....

I purchased this heater to use in a 666 sq ft, 4-car, uninsulated, vaulted ceiling garage. Obviously this is meant to be used in a smaller, more insulated setting. I wanted to try just one first, and then add as necessary. The heater itself seems to be well-built as far as structure, and designed well as far as installation and operation. Including running wiring and building a wall mount (vaulted ceiling so no ceiling studs), it took 2-3hrs to get up and running. In my large uninsulated setting, over the course of 3-4hrs, it was able to raise the temperature from 25*F to 45*F, roughly speaking. In other words, from intolerable to tolerable. Which is about what I expected from it. I think it would do quite well at maintaining a higher temperature if I were to use my propane 'salamander' to initially heat the space. Based on other's reviews and my own experience, there seems to be a major quality control concern in the assembly line for these regarding the fan nut. I was unaware of this until after it was installed, but I'm almost certain I have the same issue as almost everyone else. Before mounting the heater there was a nut and washer rattling around inside. After a semi-thorough check, I figured it was an erroneous leftover. Having read the reviews and after hearing a small rattle when the heater runs, I will be dismounting and tearing it down to install that nut properly. This is both an inconvenience and really a potential danger. For that I've removed a star from the rating. That being said, I will be purchasing another one, possibly two more. Can't beat the price to performance ratio anywhere. Edit from the future: I bought another one, slightly updated since the first. This one had no problems and even runs quieter. Awesome.

well built unit and easy to install. the only thing I was disappointed with was the serviceability. when attempting to disconntecting wires, I discovered the unit CANNOT be serviced easily. the spade terminals are crimpted onto the terminals and don't come off easily except for the fan motor and indicator lamps. so, if you ever have to replace the thermostat, high limit cut-out or the heating element, good luck! this creates a issue of having to just replace the entire unit. on my unit, I addded a sequencer to control the unit. wanting to by-pass the thermostat, I discovered the wires would not disconnect from any point and had to rethink the installation. as a result the sequencer was wired ahead of the entire circuit. so, the unit is still using the thermostat in the circuit, except the line is switched by the sequencer through a 24 volt circuit with a remote thermostat.its basically wired exactly like an electric furnace. (ie: coleman 3500-813) so, buyer beware. this unit doesn't service well....

Good choice !

We've sunk into the 20's early this year in MN. So far this little unit keeps my insulated single car garage at a comfortable 62 degrees. It's set at at " 9 o' clock" and I can get it to 75 degrees in 10 minutes if I choose setting it to 11 o'clock.

This heater puts out a decent amount of heat, but the thermostat does not seem to work consistently. When set to the lowest setting, it will sometimes come on when the temperature drops to 45 degrees. Other times it will turn on when the temperature drops to 55 degrees. After about 15 hours of use, I have noticed that the fan is starting to rattle a little bit, so I don't know if it will become an issue. NOW FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION... I purchased this item online since my local store did not carry it. I gave Home Depot my email address to track my order. NEVER DO THAT! Home Depot sells your personal information for profit. If you don't believe me, go to their home page and scroll all the way down to the bottom. There is a small link at the very bottom that says "Do Not Sell My Personal Information". Truth be told, many companies probably sell your information. However, I am now being inundated with spam email, tons of it. I have been trying for 6 weeks to complain, but the link to opt out is a joke. I have tried contacting them about 15 times now, with little response. Do not trust Home Depot with your personal information.

I like the heater. I read a lot of reviews on the Home Depot site. One thing the reviews pointed out was the fan bracket wasn't screwed in properly. This was true on mine too. I removed the rear grating, or screen, and then tightened down the sheet metal screws that hold the fan bracket on the main structure. After that, everything has worked well and quietly.

Five Stars!

This heater works very well. It has some good features, like a power indicator light and a front panel switch to select the wattage. It has 3 settings- 3.000 4.000 and 5.000 watts. I use this heater in my 1 car garage where I work a lot. I took it out the box and installed with no problems. Mounted it to the garage ceiling, wired it up to a 30A breaker and turned it on. Voila, fan began blowing and heat began blowing. It runs very quiet-no buzzing, humming, rattling, etc. I can feel the heat blowing from over 20 feet away, which is amazing. The thermostat is pretty easy to set, just get the garage to the temperature you want. You can set and leave it and it will maintain the garage at that temperature by periodically shutting itself off and on as needed. Build quality is excellent and it is designed extremely well, good materials and components and solid construction.

Great heater for the size!

An amazing little heater for the size of it. I was thinking a ceiling mounted 220v heater would be the old school monsters mounted to the ceiling. You know the type, the big metal boxes that are rattle traps and heavier than a 67 Cadillac.

Does Its Job

My setup: this is hung in my 2 car garage: 22' x 16' x 10' ceilings. It is insulated with R13 in the walls and R51 in the ceiling. In the summer, the concrete floor is enough to keep the garage below 75 degrees on even the hottest days.
