I thought many folk would be interested to know it appears they have updated this model such that there are actually four mounting screw holes/tabs behind the valve now so you can optionally screw it into the wall. Previous reviews mention that there was almost nothing to hold this in place, which was a major concern of mine, but this has been addressed both in the product and the installation docs that come with the valve.

Good water control, but mounting rather limited. There is no provision on the valve body to fix it to a wall. Heeding other reviews, I intend to remove the complete inner valve control unit for the winter, accessible with Allen screws on the chrome handle and cover, machine screws on the body.

Worked on a 75 year old fixture!!

I had almost given up fixing our beautiful old fixture. This shower valve worked beautifully with our existing plumbing parts. The plumber had to cut out the old valve and buy connecting parts, but it was quick and successful!! I couldn't be happier.

Not a good product

No mounting holes on valve Body. Can not mount this unit well. Cartridge handle opens clockwise which is opposite of all other diverters. Shower gooseneck started to rust two weeks after install. Flimsy cheap junk everthing. I would be ashamed to make or sell this product. Please dont waste your money

Not great

No mounting holes on body of valve. The supplied mounting clamp will not hold the unit in place. No good way to mount the unit. Shower head neck could be longer. Had to mount the valve high to get the shower head high. The plastic valve cover is not secured to the valve good. It moves around. I hope the unit will hold up.

Excellent prduct

I put it in the half bath in the garage. It totally changed the feel and appearance, not to mention I no longer get scalded when someone else uses water in the house.

Works perfectly. Paired the Speakman S-1496 with an Eccotemp L10 for an outdoor shower. Very satisfied. Great price.

Only thing in its class

Installed this in a basement shower remodel with plumbing through a block wall. It's the only exposed pipe-style faucet that A) cost less than $450 while B) also has a pressure balanced valve to prevent scalds. The valve body and neck are rough unfinished metal but the handle and surround are bright chrome. Odd contrast, but no odder than the rough pipes you have to plumb to it. I finished mine by weathering the copper pipes and coating with urethane...gives it an antiqued look. We'll see how it holds up to long use but no matter the appearance, this was the only thing thart functioned as I needed it to without breaking the bank.

fit the retro look we wanted in a new cabin shower with stone walls. Great customer service;needed fast ship to an island for inspection deadline. They made it happen !!

Excellent purchase!

The Speakman S-1496-AF shower body has made a huge difference in my daily shower experience. Both hot and cold water mix well and the water temperature is always even. I changed the shower head because I prefer more pressure, but overall the unit functions exceptionally well--excellent performance at a great price.
