How are you supposed to clean this thing!?
It works fine for me, it produces a lot quickly. However it's a bear to clean. I've got mineral and other gunk clogging up the filter in the chamber where you add water, and I can't get my hand into a position where I can reach it to actually clean it out. That's leaving aside the fact that you have to have it plugged in to drain the upper chamber at all. If the manufacturer gets back to me with guidance I'll change my review, but I re-read the manual now and the cleaning instructions are vague.
It's alright
It's a decent ice maker. It does its job. We purchased this because my husband works outside and goes thru a bag of ice in 2 days.. and the ice maker in our freezer couldn't keep up... this keeps up just fine, as long as we empty it into the freezer bin when it's full... however the ice is sooo wet that it just all freezes together and we have to go in with a hammer before using it. So for the price, I might shop around a little bit. But, it is a decent machine.
[Rewarded Review] Manufacture Issues
DO NOT BUY THIS ICE MAKER. It broke after 2 months and after contacting Newair they replaced it. That one broke within a couple weeks. After contacting Newair again, they were going to send me another replacement but after I read the bad reviews on the Newair website they told me to go ahead and return to Best Buy for a refund/credit. Best Buy (Eddy @ Otay Ranch) management refused and didn't even ask what was wrong with it. Well, the motor sounded like it was going to blow up. I guess customer safety is not an issue with the Otay Ranch Store. There is obviously a manufacture problem with this ice maker from all the bad reviews within the last year. I am now stuck with a broken Ice maker and no one will make this right. Will not be shopping at Best Buy anymore.
Buyer Beware! Not a good company!
I’ve received 3 faulty ice machines all with the issues! Each time I had to snip the cord and take a pic to show before sending out another faulty machine. The machine works great for a while then it starts to make thick ice that doesn’t release, and the green light continues to blink! QVC please investigate this company before selling their product! They don’t stand behind their products! I was forced to give 1 star but chose to give none!
Buyer Beware, on my 3rd replacement and same problems!
I'm lost for words! I have NEVER replaced an appliance 3 times for the same issues! Your ice maker is faulty and you're taking customers for granted by wasting our time with the replacement that continues to carry on with the same issues! Maybe taking this company to court will clear this matter up! I'm tired of begging for a product that should work for more than 3 - 6 months, with only 2 adults using it! I've also noticed my complaints from before were never posted and you have to agree to add the 1 star on your rating is also a joke!
1 unit failed after 3 mos, replacement failed after 6 mos
I guess I shouldn't have expected anything less. After following all the directions on how to correct the issues with the first unit (took 2 weeks of back and forth for company to agree that they should send me a replacement), my replacement arrived and I was hopeful. The replacement unit lasted 2x what the first unit lasted, but still - COME ON!! I'm experiencing the same issues with the replacement. Huge block of ice, not cubes, the unit won't stop unless I manually turn it off and unplug. I've followed all the directions, cleaned the unit several times and still - huge block of ice that won't release.
in only a few months it is broken
We've had this thing about 3 months. We don't have a large family it's just two people, so we use it for a few hours probably four nights a week. In this amount of time it has filled with water and not made ice, and now it just keeps the big clump of ice frozen to the area it should break out of and never comes out it just solidifies there with water running on it and freezing it more. It's really not a good product. We got this as a product to replace the last kind we had that had metal shards in the water, but I'm beginning to wonder if any of these ice makers are worth it.
Clear ice
Have not been happy with this ice machine from the start. Took a long time to produce ice from the beginning - did not form full cubes.
Marginal…expensive…takes too long.
It’s marginal…it would be a decent ice maker for $100 not $300+ tax.
Ice is too wet in the bucket
It’s a decent size and puts out enough ice for the two of us, so that’s a plus. The problem is two-fold, the ice is super wet when it’s done (even after holding the power button to make the ice come out more solid) and it doesn’t really break up well when it drops into the ice bucket it comes with. What ends up happening when I transfer the ice to the freezer is it all freezes together because it’s so wet. Definitely frustrating. It’s an ok ice maker but I would not purchase it again l.
Love This Icemaker
No more empty ice trays, in the refrigerator freezer. Now I can come into the kitchen anytime for ice and it will be, in the ice maker. This particular ice maker makes more than a glass full every 15 minutes. It really fills up with ice pretty quickly. I don't believe it takes 15 minutes. I got right at 5- 10 lb bags of ice, in a day. I share ice with family and friends, but the process can be slowed down by leaving ice, in ice maker; once FULL light illuminates, it will stop making ice, until the ice is removed off the flap. I really like this ice maker, and you will too. Only one con: having to break the ice up... I use a butter knife, which is no big deal
Two Months
Worked great for about a month before spraying water from the right side of the dispensing area. Cleaning helped a little so we were dealing with it. BUT, today we plugged it in and nothing. Outlet works fine, no power to machine. Ever since we've had it I noticed there was always some water under the ice maker. When I lifted it up this morning water came out of a plastic covering screwed to the bottom. Not even two months and no ice maker.
Really enjoy this unit for my home bar!
I really enjoy this Newair Countertop Clear Ice Maker for my home bar set up. It is very easy to use and the set up was super simple. It makes a ton of ice and it's great for hosting parties. However, I would describe the ice as more "hollow" than clear. I believe the hollow-ness is what gives it its "clear" effect. While the ice is pretty clear, it doesn't form into a fully solid cube, but rather a square exterior with a hollow center. This is a pretty minute detail, but for someone who is a mixologist who is looking to achieve a perfect "clear" ice cube, it's worth noting. Overall, I'm happy with the ice maker and haven't had any issues!
Great icemaker for large parties!
Taking a look at the @newairusa Clear ice 40. A Clear ice making machine that pumps out perfectly see through ice 40 pounds a day. Setup was ridiculously easy. Just run some luke warm water and a soft cloth to wipe the interior down. Fill the reservoir with water and hit the power button. It's literally that easy. I have been using it for a few days now and it produces about 3 and a 1/2 pounds of ice every 2 hours. The only con I can really see with it is when the ice drops it stays together. You just give it a little love tap with the provided scoop and it separates rather easy. I've made a ton of different drinks with it and the ice seems to last longer than the cubes my my refrigerator makes and obviously they're better looking. Speaking of looks I really like the fact that it has a stainless steel body and is easy to clean. I think the overall design was very well-thought-out and I'm happy to have this for an addition to the bar room. I feel I'm going to have this thing running 24 hours A-day with all the drinks coming out of this house. If you guys are in the market for one I would definitely suggest giving this a look. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Hope you all have a great weekend. Hopefully we will see you all on Thursday. Cheers all!
A perfect addition to a coffee/tea lovers kitchen!
I am a proud barista at home kinda gal so I like to make coffee from home 99% of the time to save money! This ice machine takes my at home coffee recipes to the next level with the super clear, pretty ice cubes! The ice looks exactly like Starbucks ice!! Plussss it keeps me from yelling at my husband for not refilling the ice cubes trays! I like that the machine is easy to use, you literally just add water and turn it on, and let it do it's thing. The machine is fairly loud while it's making the ice, but once the ice is made, the noise stops, so it's not going all day long. Overall, I really like the machine, and I think it's great for anyone who uses a lot of ice during the day/week, or someone who doesn't have a fridge that makes its own ice (like me), or for someone who's husband doesn't ever refill the ice cube trays (like me).
Really nice unit.
I've only had this machine a couple weeks now and used it about 4 days in that amount of time. So far it's worked perfectly. From start up to first ice has ranged from 30-45 mins then about every 10 mins after that. The ice is very similar to that you find in most hotel machines. I have it on a counter in my washroom and it's pretty quiet. I docked it one star because for the 1 con I have for it. A full cleaning it takes a bit of time. The opening to the reservoir is small and hard to get my hand in there to give it a good wipe down. The ice dump compartment is easier to access but still small. There are two small filters that have to be removed and the bottom drain lays horizontally at the bottom of the machine. You have to tip the unit to get it to drain the final bit of water out. Then you have to run vinegar/water through it making one tray of ice then empty and run another batch of clean water to flush. It's not hard just time consuming. So, docking it one star may or may not be fair since this is the only ice machine I've owned. Others may be easier or harder to clean. How will it hold up over the next few years? Don't know but if I can get 5 years with out issues I'd be thrilled. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.
Great Clear Ice Maker
This is a fantastic ice maker! It makes crystal clear ice quickly, is easy to clean, and has a small footprint on my countertop. The ice that my refrigerator makes is not clear - it has tiny air bubbles and impurities trapped inside the ice, so when using it, it makes carbonated drinks fizz to the point they go flat before I start to drink them. The Newair Clearice40 is a completely different story! The ice is so clear, you can barely see it in a cocktail, and carbonated drinks do not fizz at all. I can't say enough good things about this product. If you like crystal clear martinis, and other drinks, this is well worth the investment!
Best Ice Maker on the market!
After much research I decided to go with the Newair 40 countertop clear ice maker and I can't be happier with my decision. This unit performs as advertised and makes ice like a champ. For us we have limited space and this unit fills our little area perfectly. The units produces ice at a fast pace and is great for gatherings at your home or for filling bags to use later. One of the bright spots for the Newair 40 is it is super quiet, you hardly even know it is there. The ice does come out fairly clear, and the cleaner you keep the unit the will remain clear. Cleaning the unit is very easy and just takes a few minutes every couple of weeks of use. We use this unit as our primary ice maker as our main refrigerator ice maker went out, and it does a great job keeping up with demand.
Mine Broke, purchased July 2021 - 10/15/21, but warranted.
The response from Newair: Normally there is a shipping fee that needs to be paid to have the replacement unit shipped out to you, as the warranty does not cover the shipping costs. However, I am happy to waive the fee. I kindly ask if you write a short positive review of what you like most about your unit and your experience with us. "I did my due diligence when searching for a small home ice machine to make pure ice from the pure Alkaline Water I buy around the corner. It worked great, and I was initially impressed until it broke. I think lasting 3 months for a Single man, with every other day use, does not pass my requirements for a piece of equipment such as this. I hope the 2n unit under warranty is NEW and not REFURBISHED. Only 4 stars since it didn't last as long as I thought it would, and since I needed to write something positive to get free shipping. If shipping wan not free, then 1 star, if that.
Ice Maker Does Not Work Right Out of the Box
After countless hours of research into the best countertop ice maker to meet my needs, I was very excited to finally find an available NewAir Clear Ice 40, even if it was refurbished. However, upon opening the box, I was disappointed and it only got worse. My box did not contain any instructions or any manual at all, nor did I receive the ice scoop, or the drain line for the drain plug. I got past my disappointment and found an online manual so I could start making ice. After waiting for over an hour for any refrigerant to settle, I 100% followed the directions to start making ice. I filled the water reservoir and then turned on the machine, as instructed. Immediately upon starting the water started dumping from the reservoir through the ice maker and into the ice bucket. I found this odd, but thought it might be to cool down the water and then move it back to the reservoir. However, after waiting almost an hour for any ice to be produced, the ice bucket was still full of water and the ice that finally fell was only half formed and landed in an ice bucket full of water. I thought I might have done something wrong, therefore, I shut off the whole machine, moved it over to my sink and drained it clear of all water. Then I repeated the instructions to make ice again. I turned off the machine, I filled the reservoir to the max water line and then I turned it back on. Imagine my disappointment when the exact same thing happened again. An ice bucket full of water and half formed ice dropping into the cold water. I now will have to deal with trying to get this corrected and hopefully will be able to get another machine, but with the shortage, I am doubtful they will have another refurbished one, though I would have preferred a new one anyway. I will be directly contacting the company and if they properly remedy the issue and the new machine works as advertised, I will update this review.
