Buyer Beware! 2 of 4 leaked!

I usually never review items, but if I could give negative stars I would! Ordered 4 of these and 2 leaked the fuel and I had to throw away as I did not want to transport these back to the store! Even with a funnel they are ackward to fill and will overflow. Skip these and go with an electric rechargable!

These leaked all the lamp oil.

I filled these to the required line. Both leaked all the way out. The seams are not welded properly. I will only be able to use as decorative items. Will not buy or recommend!!

Good Lantern

I've used the Stansport 127 12" Hurricane Lantern Kerosene Oil Citronella for years now. Primarily because they're the most inexpensive and do the job. They are fragile but will last if taken care of. They used to come with more than one wick and a small funnel, I think, but no longer. It says to use fuel other than kerosene. I've used kerosene in mine with no problems. There is a fill line that should be observed or it will leak. There will be no leaks if you only fill to the fill line. I asked their customer service the amount the tank holds up to the fill line and they said "about 7 oz". They will start to rust if not stored properly. You can also find a variety of the 1/2 inch roll of wick on the Walmart website at a reasonable price. I hope this helps.

Not a Feuerhand, but neither is the price!

I must have been lucky and gotten a good one, no leaks. Not to say it's the best lantern out there, but definitely quite serviceable. It does provide light! Cheaply made (but at the cost, it can't be top quality) - half of the holes for air at the bottom, around the wick/burner, on mine still have the little tabs from the machine that punched them! Doesn't affect function, doesn't even really look bad, but it's a marker of the level (or not!) of the QC. Well, what can one expect for just over $7? My Feuerhand (German made) was almost 7x as much! The glass seems very thin, and without doubt won't be borosilicate (AKA Pyrex) at this price point, like the Feuerhand has. Pyrex resists breaking with temperature shock, such as rain hitting the hot globe. Pyrex was actually developed for railroad lanterns before it became a kitchen staple. But for fair weather and emergency use in sheltered conditions, it should be fine. I also found that the set of nylon ditty bags that Walmart sells for about $5 contains a bag (the largest in the set) that will store this quite nicely. If yours leaks, clean it off well, sand the seam with a Dremel moto-tool to bare metal, then use JB Weld or similar product and put a small bead all around it. You can then give it a coat of paint. Too much work for such an inexpensive item? Well, you can certainly return it as defective, trash it and totally waste your $ or take about 20 minutes and a few pennies extra and fix it. Should you have to? No, but again, you just paid about $7-9 for it! Other notes: the wire supports for the globe are (a) thin and (b) loose, but when it's all together, with the top spring holding it down, it's solid. There is a nice feature, there's a notch on the air duct that allows the lever to raise the globe to stay up. Mine also has a gasket for the fuel cap. Quality, 3 stars; value (price paid for what you get) 5 stars.
