Great!
I will withhold complete judgement until I have had it for a while, but I really like it after several uses. For what I wanted, it is perfect! We use spotlights for night, varmint hunting. You can have the brightest in the world but if it doesn't have a focused beam, I do not need it. The beam is focused with some flood surrounding it. Battery so far lasts for quite some time. It is also not that heavy, easy to hold and spot for some time without the fatigue.
Way better than "one million candle power" junk
I purchased this light for night time boating on the river. I had one of the old "one million candle power" things previously, it was heavy, short battery life and flimsy. I was concerned that this light would not be as bright. No worries, it's better in every way, smaller, lighter, brighter and seems pretty rugged. Only grip is the position of the brightness selector lever, It could have been positioned so as to facilitate easy, one handed changes.
Reliable for 7+ Years
We bought two of these flashlights back in 2013, and have been very pleased with their performance ever since. Initially, we bought them to walk our dog at night in a neighborhood that had no street lights and lots of copperheads. They did what we needed them to do and more, like being able to observe owls in some very tall trees. The light is extremely bright and focused, which is what we wanted, rather than lighting up a large area around us like a lantern, as we are more interested in what is ahead of us. The ability to switch the light to the on position so that the trigger doesn't have to be constantly pushed is a great feature for long walks. We have found the weight and shape of the handle to be comfortable for extended use. We store the lights inside on a shelf, where they can be plugged in for recharging as needed. We tend to keep them plugged in when not in use, and that has not presented a problem. After 7 years and many more charges than the manufacturer stated we would get out of them, we are starting to experience shorter battery life. We are not surprised or disappointed by this, as the lights lasted far longer than expected and longer than any other electronic device we have purchased during this time period that also got daily use. So, I'm buying two more. We now live in the country on an acreage and need to keep an eye on our dogs at night as they run around our multiple-acre back yard. These lights are just the ticket.
VERY bright, tight beam. Outstanding customer service.

Worth Every Penny
I bought this to help us with the outside electric spotlight. We have undesirable outside critters, and this helps us spot them and avoid them when we leave our dog outside at night. It almost makes it appear as though we don't even have another spotlight lit. We've used it to go deer spotting, and it's much handier and brighter than the plug-in type. I'm sure that we will be using this light for more things. And, yes, it does charge quickly, and easily. I would definitely recommend this spotlight.
Streamlight's portable Spotlight low price but high features
This review is for the 550 lumen 4 C-battery model. My reason for buying this model is its ability to run directly off of 12v without draining the batteries. I also can run mine from any 7way hitch plug using a 7way to 12v power outlet adapter. These are great for storm duty checking for tree/roof damage and work/ sports. the beam is bright and has great throw to spot items at a distance. Makes a great car/truck light especially since it can run directly from the vehicle even with dead or no batteries in it. i recommend NIMH rechargables as i use them and don't have to worry about leaking batteries damaging the light. Simple to use, Rugged and bright one of the best bargains out there for a spotlight

We live in bear-cougar-coyote forest country. Once our little dog was chased/bit by a coyote, it only fled when our bigger Aussie ran to the rescue. So in dark hours the spotlight is de rigueur. The included mounting cup is a great way to put the Streamlight right at hand as you walk out the back door at night. It’s really bright. Significantly brighter than the older Cyclops it replaces. Though a few ounces heavier. Nice controls. Seems well made. Older arthritic hands may find the trigger a bit stiff.

I live in Minnesota and enjoy staying on the lookout for coyotes that frequent our property. I hear them howling at night and have generally located their bedding area by shining a decent flashlight and waiting to catch the eerie reflection of their eyes. But my typical big name 1000 lumen flashlights (including Streamlight brand) do not reach well to the distance necessary. The area is roughly 500-550 feet from our home. So I purchased this Streamlight Waypoint 300 in hopes of illuminating the area at that distance. I just received my light today and had a chance to try it after dark. WOW. Impressive spot light. I agree with other reviews on light weight, compact design, etc etc. I just wanted to add this comment to reinforce the impressive throw or reach of the center spot beam. You won't be disappointed.

I have six of these, in our vehicles, work, by the night stand, the front door for walking dogs. I gave them out as presents one year and everyone loved them. The holder protects the body if it's bumping around in a truck but not the lens. I cut some plastic to go on the inside of the holder so the lens won't get scratched up. The 4 'C' cells last a long time. We use this in New England walking our dogs twice a day at dawn and dusk and the batteries last ~6 months. I avoid the rechargeable styles only because when the internal battery fails you have a lump of plastic. I have not tried the Streamlight brand of rechargeable and perhaps should since battery technology has advanced so much. The light is so bright it cuts into the woods a good 100 yards+. The flash feature is blinding and I once used it to chase off a bear on our deck. He's probably still blinking out there in the woods. The ratcheting arm lets you use it for different angles and it works great. I work in demolition and this light has identified hazards we otherwise couldn't see. Tough, bright, waterproof and a great price. Get this for the one you love.

We purchased this light to be able to watch our dogs when they are outside at night. Our property goes back about 600 feet and our dogs are light colored. This light is absolutely bright enough at 600 feet to see the dogs. It is also very cool to be able to see the deer on the property, too. The only negative I can say about the light is that the handle is a bit short. I am an average size woman and the handle feels a bit short even to me. With that said, the light does not feel top-heavy in my hand and there is no loss of functionality because of the handle. We have had the light for only a week so I cannot speak to battery life yet.

After receiving this light, unpackaging, installing 4 new C-cell batteries, I checked it out. Initially, no light function at all, then I un-tightened and re-tightened the retaining screw to the battery cover, and had light. I cycled it through the high, low, and strobe settings with good function, then decided that something else could have caused the initial malfunction. Immediately upon bumping my palm with the side of the housing, the high beam was dulled to a "lesser" version of the low position, and everything else was of reduced power as well. An additional "bump" to the palm momentarily brightened the light, then dull again. That was enough for me. Back in the box to be returned to Home Depot (where I ordered online). I will try again with another unit, hopefully to be able to write a much more favorable review.
Great Light!
As a firefighter and knowing the Streamlight reputation because these are what we use on our trucks, this was a no brainer for me. I looked at all my options but I kept leaning towards this light. I bought the battery operated one over the rechargeable one. Rechargeables wear out eventually. I'm pretty good at always checking my stuff before pulling the boat out of the yard, so I always check this light and I have an extra set of batteries in my first aid kit. The light is super bright overall and has great distance. Three settings are available, super bright, less bright and a strobe effect. This has an attached stand if needed and the holster it comes in protects the lens and is mountable.
Would buy again without reservation !
A great light! I don't usually leave product reviews, but this spotlight is impressive. It is perfectly balanced holding it in my hand, and the attached strap that goes around the wrist is very secure, inspiring confidence that I won't drop it in the lake! I use this mainly as a marine searchlight to aid in night docking, so the water-resistance and ability to float are important, if so far only theoretical, considerations.
Another excellent streamlight product.
This is a high quality light that has exceeded my needs I was looking for. It's seems that every store has some kind of LED light. Stream lights always has a better quality light beam in my opinion. I use my way point at work, it's been dropped from 6ft, onto a concrete floor, and its been wet in every form imaginable. I have not submerged mine, since I don't work near a pool setting of water. I have used this light just as I needed it and it has performed each and every time.
Rugged construction with very bright beam
I have the replaceable C cell battery version with a 12 volt power cord mainly for use on my boat. Impressive build quality - solid without being heavy. With my cheap lux meter I measured 95,000 candela output in the center beam using the 12 v power cord, alkaline C batteries, or AA lithium batteries (with C cell adapters). The manufacturer's claim of 100,000 is certainly reasonable. I measured 7,200 candelas vs a spec of 7,900 on low. It draws 2 amps on high from the internal battery pack. That's a pretty severe drain on alkaline C cells so I'd expect brightness to start dropping fairly quickly. I plan use lithium or rechargeable NiMH AA batteries with C adapters that will tolerate this draw better even though much smaller. It pulls .85 amps from external DC power.
Wonderfully bright light - illuminates up to 400'
GREAT light. I love Streamlights in general but this one has incredible brightness and distance coverage. It has three settings and the lowest will work great for most your needs. However, the highest is truly nice and bright. On that setting it really covers a long distance - reasonably up to 400'. I can shoot the beam and light up the end of the street. The unit is rechargeable so no batteries to worry about sitting for extended periods. It is light weight and the 'gun' style design makes it easy to operate. The flip up stand is helpful when hands-free operation is required. The carry strap is also a nice touch. I liked it so much I purchased a 2nd one. Great for around the house or when traveling.
Bright, but small center beam
As one other post noted, this unit emits a very bright, but small, center circle and a much dimmer outer beam. Two modes of operation exist: full pull of the trigger ('til it "clicks") and the light stays on and another full squeeze to turn it off; or, a partial squeeze of the trigger to turn it on momentarily- release of the trigger then turns it off. Lightweight- yes. Top heavy- no. It does cast a bright beam for a good 100 yards but again, the center is extremely bright and the outside if much dimmer. If the beam would've been even intensity across the entire light circle, it would be perfect. There are others that cast a similar light output at a fraction of the price. Thinking of returning this item for a cheaper unit that I've had for years.
High quality beam and brightness makes a great value.
My profession is within optical sciences and that makes me very choosy with flashlights. This flashlight is well made in many ways. The tiny LED in there sure seems almost too small to produce a decent amount of light, but it pumps out tremendous amounts of light. The beam is so bright even the half-brightness setting is pretty bright. For a flashlight that only uses one amp, it's very good. The beam quality is excellent, and it's a very tight beam - the parabolic reflector is well made. The switch is also well made. I like that it will turn on without having to latch the switch - half pull on the trigger turns on the light (momentary on), and that can be held reliably if you don't want it fully switched (latched) on. Some flashlights don't offer momentary on, but it's handy to have.
Not "FAMILY FRIENDLY" at all !
I'm writing this review after THE ENTIRE FAMILY tested this spotlight.
The one and only light you will ever need.
This is my second battery operated Streamlight Waypoint. The first one I bought 2 years ago. It sits out in the tack room of our barn to check on the horses, other livestock, find and fix broken fencing, locate predators at night along with many other uses. It sits in a cabinet through the heat of the summer and below zero temps in the winter. It is used infrequently but always performs flawlessly. I have yet to replace the original "C" batteries. So I purchased another for the house. After trying and throwing away many other rechargeable and battery operated "high power" hand held lights over the years I wish I would have forked out the few additional dollars to get the Waypoint in the first place. I would have been a lot of money ahead. Don't you make the same mistakes. This is the one and only hand held spot/flashlight you will ever need.
