Good Door. crappy screws

The door and hinges are excellent. But the screws they sent to screw into the wall suck. I pre-drilled the holes, just as the instructions said. 2 screw heads stripped out, and I was screwing them in carefully. I had to remove them slowly with vise grips, what a pain, which scratched the paint on the hinges. Ended up using Tap cons to secure the hinges.

The new Dreamline Shower Door is great. I installed it myself with the help of my wife. It was a challenging installation, but we installed it perfectly. Many videos to help with instructions. I have glass suction cups. I would not want to try the install without them. The ordering process was easy and waited for a sale price. I would definitely recommend the Dreamline Doors.

I was very nervous about ordering this product but the description about how it is designed, adjustable to different shower widths sold me. It worked put very well and the frame on the adjustable side does not detract from the doors looks at all.

Still waiting

Still waiting for the handle and the hinges that Lowe’s lost. Worst part is that they now are giving me the run around. Twice they have told me it was on its way. When I call the company they tell me we are still waiting for Lowe’s to respond with the PO. Terrible customer service.

Poor anti-spot coating

Great online install directions. The only special coating on the glass was about a 6 inch strip across the middle of the glass door. The hardware for the glass shelves either were not shipped or were lost. Lowes is trying to get them ordered. disapointed that the special coating that repels water from beading up (that I paid for) was not on the entire glass.

Overall, nice quality shower door.

The door is beautiful and looks very high-end. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because it requires the use of plastic splash guards between the two doors as the door is designed to fall in toward the shower without them. I worry these will yellow over time and spoil the clean look. I would have preferred to not have this splashguard in the middle of the site line between the doors. The door looks exactly as pictured. I didn’t realize when I bought it that only one side is hinged so the complete door actually looks like two different styles. That is completely my fault For not noticing that on the picture. I probably would not have bought it had I noticed that because it looks a little odd when installed. The parts seem well-made, and the thick glass adds a classy touch

It’s a beautiful door. Don’t really like the plastic rubber seals go to the back side of the door. They kind of stick to the tile and make a noise when you open the door. The hinge screws are kind of cheap. The Phillips heads, stripped out easy. Other than that, the quality seems to be really good.

Good Quality Door

Very happy with the shower door and side panel. Quality build, thick glass, heavy weight hinges and floor mount. Hinge screws were terrible, had to get new ones. I installed solo thanks to the built in spacers, only needed extra hands to handle the glass door. The install instructions were good which also was helpful for a DIYer, but could use some improvements on aligning the two pieces so they are plum as well as aligned to each other. Better packing list would be good too.

The shower door was perfect for my small size bathroom. I needed 42" wide door and the shower door opening shouldn't be too big for the space. The opening door is 27" wide and it's perfect. The only downside is that it's not reversible between left and right side. My contractor managed to install the shower door inside out and he could install the reverse side.

Frameless glass shower door

This is a beautiful, well made shower door. With 3/8" thick glass and heavy duty hinges, one can feel the quality. It is definitely not designed for the average DIY person as specialty glass handling tools are needed. Also it's a two person install due to the weight of the panels. I love the frameless look with two glass shelves.

Couldn’t stop the water leaking under door

This door was purchased in August and installed professionally and looked beautiful. Unfortunately, water leaked under the door every shower. I replaced the plastic piece at the bottom of the door with a water “stopping” device that failed miserably as well. There has to be a better way to keep the water out. Unfortunately I am replacing the door with one I hope will keep the water in the shower where it belongs. Wasted money.

It's a quality product.

This is a very high quality, expensive, shower door that includes two glass shelves. The only complaint I have is that the inside handle is NOT a handle, it is an about 1" stub that is hard to use. I called the company that makes it and asked to buy a handle like the one shown on the outside in the picture. Since the hardware only needs to be taken off on the back and it would be very little effort to attach one on the inside, I was disappointed when the company said they don't sell them and neither does Lowe's. If Lowe's doesn't want to fool with selling them, they should allow customers to go directly to the manufacturer.

Hinge design could be better

Others are correct, stainless screws are soft and strip but that isn’t the real problem. The real problem is you cannot get a driver straight onto the screw. Must go at it at a slight angle to avoid the hinge. That causes the stripping out. A very long extension helped. Even with that we ended up drilling pilot holes at an angle, and now live with screw heads that are not seated completely in the countersink. It’s ok, but could be better. Door itself is perfect.

The thickness quality of glass is unbeatable. Overall I am very happy with the look of it. Definitely a 5 star product minus install problems. The side piece in the right hand side isnt the same type of chrome as the hardware. Doesnt have a mirror finish. Had some issues with install as well drilled out quarter inch holes in the tile, as discribed but it seemed like the provided screws were too big of diameter after I set the anchors in. (Only used them because I furred out the wall for the tile and there was about an inch of dead space before I hit the studs) Had to hone them out with 1/8th inch drill bit before I could install screws. Probably the biggest issue was the set screws for the hinges were on so tight that I stripped 2 trying to get them loose. Like unbelievably tight. Could use a longer Alan than the one provided and I was worried about breaking the glass having to crank so hard. Now I have 2 stripped Alans im going to have to figure out how to fix. Could be best to loosen them before the glass is up.

Don’t buy - One fatal flaw (bad screws!)

Product is very nice, sturdy and just what we want. But has one fatal flaw that turned this into an awful install experience. The screws they provide are cheap and strip very easily. They provided an extra pack of screws as if they already know it’s a problem, but all of them were terrible quality screws. The stripped bits left jagged edges and sliced my fingertip too. I do this type of thing a lot, am a young-ish and strong guy so I had a lot of good force behind them. I even drilled the pilot hole a bit bigger than they recommend (1/8”) and 5 of the 8 screws totally stripped. Will now have to buy a tool to remove them, and find better screws to replace them. Waste of time. Do not buy until they advertise new improved screws.

Great materials but exact install little tricky

Overall the glass and materials are impressive for the price. The glass is thick and sturdy. The hinges are heavy duty and of great quality. And yes, you absolutely have to make sure your wall has appropriate backing to mount something this heavy to it. If all you have is drywall, then the provided wall anchors will not work and the instructions are pretty clear on this. Where I did find them lacking, is that I could not get the fixed panel to line up with the door in the vertical axis. So at the top the they are off by about 1/4 inch. I used the provided spacers when installing the door. The fixed panel is exactly the height of the door plus the spacer with no room for error. Seems that with the u channels that hold the fixed panel, they could have made the fixed panel a little shorter. Than any height discrepancies can be made up by spacers underneath the fixed panel inside the u channel. But overall I’m willing to overlook this flaw, door makes my shower look like a least 1/2 million bucks,

Beautiful and sturdy. Installation was not as difficult as I had feared. A one person installation in possible, but not advisable. The hinges, hinge action, and door sweeps are all great quality.

Big Savings versus custom shower door from local companies

I have installed about a dozen shower doors. Since most were bypass doors, this one requires being more meticulous since the door and fixed panel must meet perfectly for a quality installation. Unless you have wood directly behind the finished wall where the hinges go, I would not recommend this door. The door panel weighs 70 lbs. and the torque on the top hinge attachment points is significant. Luckily, my walls were plumb at the front of the shower alcove, which meant no need for shims behind hinges. A good bit of thought went into the instructions and the materials provided to make DIY installation as painless as possible. It is a two-person job in my opinion--at least at several points when marking hole locations and establishing plumb and alignment. All materials seems to be of good-to-excellent quality from the hinges to the glass and handle. The seals work well so far after the first trial taking a lengthy shower. The ClearGlass coating does seem to make a difference squeeging the door and wiping it dry. There are just a few little issues that kept me from giving this 5 stars. Call this a strong 4-star review and consider that I don't give out 5-star reviews easily. First of all, I thought that there could be an actual template provided for the hinge attachment. It could be clear plastic and would allow the installer to check the marks made on the wall for hinges to be surre they are perfectly aligned with the template. Next, There should be a small amount of tolerance for the vertical alignment of the fixed panel. I found that my fixed panel, which is installed after the door, was about 1/8th higher than my door and there was no way to compensate for that. Also, the fixed panel is held in place by silicone everywhere. I would like to see Dreamline consider wedge-shaped clear gaskets to hold the glass at least on one side. That would make installation less messy. I also did not put silicone at the back of the fixed panel but rather on both sides. If I ever have to remove that panel and the upright support, it would be a challenge to dig through silicone to undo the screws. While that is probably an issue for a future owner of our home I think it was the wise thing to do. Finally, I had trouble with the push-on button cover for the hinge screws. They went on fine to cover the hex screws that hold the hinge halves together but repeated tries to get them into the Phillips-head screws at the wall were to no avail. Overall, my wife and I are very pleased with the final product and we figure we saved about 50% over having a door made and installed. Measure carefully, follow all the instructions and I think you will be pleased too. And I did verify a couple of items with Dreamline support before starting and after going through the instructions completely before starting. The person there was very helpful and knowledgeable. Sorry for the poor images. I am overdue for a new phone.

A word to dreamline's designers....

Horrible instructions. Just really confusing for no good reason. I install these shower doors a few times a year and its always the same thing. You buy a model and you spend 45 minutes trying to confirm your model number on the myriad of different manuals you get. The model number I have printed on my box and on my order does not match any of the potential model numbers on the manual. Close, but not exact, which is not what you want when installing a $500 piece of glass. This doesn't need to be so vague and misleading. The least you could do is have a QC person circle the model number you're receiving to make this process less of a guessing game.
