Worst written instructions I have ever seen

The product itself seems well made, but there are some negatives. First of all, having three prongs instead of two significantly limits where it can be plugged in. This is an inconvenience. Secondly, the instructions are virtually impossible to understand! I spent hours trying to decipher the message and eventually got it set up. I think it was more luck than anything and dare not try to make any changes lest I lose the entire programming. But I'm still not sure if the "on" time will automatically adjust for the season or not. Finally, there is no logical pattern to the multiple functions of the buttons which just adds to the instruction's confusion. It seems to be working ok, but not enough time has gone by to observe its durability nor its season changing adjustments.

A little challenging to follow the programming instructions but, once mastered, it works as advertised. I haven't tried the random setting and have high hopes. Other brands' astronomical random setting have been unpredictable, and the daylight savings time change setting typically changed on the wrong Sunday. Will have to see if this one works correctly.

Buttons don't work well. Must be a very old unit stored in poor conditions, maybe high heat. Doesn't function well.

PITA to program

Description says it's a countdown timer, it is not. It works well if you can figure out how to program it. Instructions are vague.

No over ride

I really like the Defient timer because it could be turned off/on with the push of a button - this one, I have to unplug the load and plug it into a hot receptacle. Otherwise, I like it so far.

Can't be programmed as I had hoped

What is the point in having an astronomical timer that can't be programmed to turn off at a SPECIFIC time? Yes, I want it to turn on at dusk, but I also don't want the light on all the way until sunrise. Who keeps their lights on all night long? This will simply alert burglars that it's a timer or that the lights may just be on constantly inside. I would have been better off buying a Leviton wall timer, which allows for programming a specific off time along with an astronomical on time.

it worked for 10 days!

just got this about 2 weeks ago and was quite optimistic that I would not have to be changing timer clock through the year as days shorten and lengthen. It's keeping perfect time and sunset time seems to be adjusting properly but it isn't turning my light on anymore at sunset as I programmed it - the display shows correct time, that it's set for auto and that status is "on" but the light is not on. I tested lamp without the timer to make sure the bulb was not out but bulb is fine. Tried it with another lamp and also a kitchen appliance; both work fine alone but will not go on with the timer even though the timer shows "on" rather than "off". Bringing it back to Home Depot tomorrow. Seemed like a good idea but definitely not ready for prime time! Don't waste your money on this

Works well. Not what was pictured

What I ordered didn’t look like this. It must of been a newer version. I only ordered this product because I have another on just like what is shown in the picture. I know how to program it so that’s why I ordered the same style but the “newer version” showed up. Not what was pictured.

Perfect timer with the astronomic feature. No more seasonal schedule changes. Fairly easy to program if you have the instructions. Maybe that could be easier but basically it's a set it and forget it timer.

Works great!!

I am using this timer for my outdoor Christmas lights because the plug is inside the garage and my solar timer won't work. It works perfectly! The new version does not match this picture and has only 4 larger buttons on it. Thank you to the two customers who gave previous reviews as it helped me to be sure I read the directions thoroughly and then stepped through each step slowly.

Instructions are useless

I purchased this timer because I felt being digital it would be more accurate and easier to set up than the manuals I've used before. Boy was I wrong. I was able to turn the timer to "ON" but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to set the timer to "OFF". The instructions come on a tiny piece of paper that you almost need a magnifier to read. They are of no help at all in setting the "ON" and "OFF". I'm going to return it and go back to a simple old manual.

Terrible

Timer has a 10 step menu that one has to be gone through each time it is changed and "on/off" function is number 9. Some menu screens are not identified so if you lose track of what step you are on you have to start over. Menu can only be advanced so if you accidentally pass the desired function you have to start over. On/off function has 6 additional steps. My timer (after one day) now will only change the "off" day function, time cannot be changed. This is trash.

I purchased this timer for the astronomical feature and it was well worth the few extra dollars for the convenience of "set & forget it", especially when the outlet is behind furniture low to the floor. Programming and setup instructions were easy to understand and perform. The display and buttons are medium - large size . Additional features - dual outlets, backup battery, soundless operation. A definite improvement over the old mechanical pushpin timers.
