Excellent puppy gate!
Needed a sturdy chew-proof walk-thru gate to allow me and cats in/out but not the new 30# puppy. Arrived quickly and was easy to assemble and install. Installed 7” off the floor for the cats. Even my fat cat can slide under. The walk-thru gate is terrific and easy. The door can be closed or open with the gate in place. (Was missing one of the wall cups used for screwing into the wall, but I wasn’t planning to use them, so it didn’t matter.) Ordering a second gate today!
These are not it
These are not great. First the legs to attach to the wall are not snapped in or screwed into and secured to the rest of the gate. They just kind of sit there and you have to get it on the wall somehow without all 4 sliding off. Second, to be actually locked. You have to manually move a lever at the bottom. If you don't, the closed lock position is tenuous. The entire thing is shaky.
Very solid! Gate operates smoothly
This gate attaches very firmly due to cups that screw into the doorframe. It is much more solid than the tension-mounted gates I've used in the past. The gate opens and closes smoothly. This is a relatively affordable and very functional gate that's been so useful for my household.
Broken merchandise
Opened the box and found that there were numerous parts of the gate were never soldered together, making it unusable. I was told that I had to return it to the store. As I am on oxygen 24/7, I explained that was not feasible. I asked if my daughter could do it for me, but was told that only the person whose credit card was used could return it. Now I have a useless gate. Perhaps quality control is no longer important.
not good quality
the tac welding is as cheap as you can possibly get. the bars are not fully welded. each bar has one spot weld on each end of the bar.
Perfect!
Don’t know why I didn’t purchase this gate sooner because I can’t tell you how many times I almost hurt myself trying to climb over the wooden gates! I did my research and purchased this gate and it is fantastic. They arrived in 2 days, took me less than a half hour to put up three of these and my Frenchie has no issues walking through the “door”. No more wooden gate calamities!
extends in sections
this gate expands in incremented sections. my hallway was too small for the add on extension, so the pressure mount screws had to extend to their maximum length to fit. so basically a quarter inch of screw on each side is holding the entire thing in place, making it very unstable. my chihuahua won't touch the gate, but if a dog were to jump on or even push against, it would not hold. my hallway is 32.75"
2y Old Mastered the "Child-proof" Lock in Seconds!
We got this gate to keep our toddler out of our kitchen because it was safer and more efficient than adding individual locks to each appliance and cabinet, to just block off the entire room and keep her out altogether. The gate itself is sturdy and functions well, it was easy to install, it's convenient for the parent to be able to walk through instead of stepping over or having to take down every time you need to pass through, but the locking mechanism is so primitive and over simplified that my 2 year old had already mastered it the very same day it was installed! All it took was her watching us unlock it once or twice and she'd figured it out. Which means this gate ultimately only works if you're using it for a pet or small baby who hasn't yet honed their fine motor skills, but even then, you had better be prepared to have to buy another for it's replacement as soon as they do because it's nothing for a toddler to open on their own!
GARBAGE
This,by far , the biggest piece of garbage I've ever bought . It DOES NOT fit the opening I need it for. The opening I WAS going to use it for is between the listed sizes, but DOES NOT work ! If I use the 6" extension, the frame of the gate rubs both sides of the opening . If I don't use it, the screws are WAY too small and the gate is useless . I had to add pieces from an old gate to make this piece of junk work !!! COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND GOOD MONEY !
JUNK
Pure junk ! DOES NOT FIT as they say it does . The doorway I need it for is within the sizes they list and it DOES NOT FIT ! Using the extender makes it worse , as the frame of the gate hits BOTH sides of the opening . Without it,the gate is too SMALL and the screws are TOO SHORT . I had to use parts from an old gate to make it SEMI work . A waste of time and money !
Short lifespan
I bought two of the Regalo Easy Step walkthrough gates in 2021. They both have the same design flaw. The latching mechanism under the child-safe sliding bracket is made of plastic, and after only 2 years of normal use it cracked. The latch no longer works, so the door can’t serve its purpose. It’s frustrating, because I drilled into walls in either side in both locations where I have the gates.
The gate door latch does NOT work!
It's a good product as long as you're okay with a latch that does not work, and, also, your'e okay bending over, at the floor level, to adjust the stops that hold the gate door in place.
Not easy to walk through. Easy to install.
It feels like a very sturdy gate. Easy to install I wish the additional side pieces had deeper openings for the tension feet.
Works beautifully!
Easy to install and works beautifully! Perfect for keeping our Shih=tzu mix from going into areas he's not supposed to be in, and sturdy enough that the cat can jump it with no wiggling. The instillation was a breeze, once we figured out the trick - the 'screws' that provide tension are slightly smaller than the holes they're threaded into, which makes them quite loose and at first glance they appear to be useless. However, playing with them for a minute showed that the screws have a sort of nut in the same grey plastic as the feet that spins to push against the gate and provide tension to keep the gate in place. This is not at all obvious in the directions provided with the gate, only having another gate with similar hardware made us look close enough to see this. This fits with another review we saw on here that was one star and complained that there was no way to turn the screws to provide tension against the wall - because the screws themselves don't turn, the nut attached does! Other than that small thing, this is a perfect gate, and we will likely be replacing our other step=over gate with another of these in the future!
Could be better, could be worse
Installed this gate primarily based on pricing and the latching mechanism. The build quality and gate itself is fine and on par with the price point. I would caution anyone however upon installing this gate to consider placement carefully. I installed ours onto sheetrock in the hallway, the supplied "self tapping/threading" screws are not meant for sheetrock nor are there sheetrock anchors supplied. I did use my own sheetrock anchors along with the screws that were provided in the packaging, I actually prefer the gate without the wall cups than with them. Gate seems much more sturdy with just the rubber feet that the provided wall cups as per the instructions. Decent product for the price point, but the company is kidding themselves with the provided screws for the wall cups. If you're mounting to wood trim, most likely no issues. That is the only reasoning behind the 4 stars instead of 5, less secure with the wall cups than just using the rubber feet.
I am not happy with this gate at all. $40 and it does not keep my kids in. I have a 4-year-old and 18 month old and both can open this gate. Had it not been such a hassle I would have returned this. However, in order to keep it and get use out of it we have to keep a vice grip clipped behind the safety latch to prevent my kids from sliding it and opening the gate. Unfortunately, this has caused damage to the metal after only a few uses but it is the only way we've been able to keep them from opening it. I don't know how this can be considered a "safety" gate when it literally doesn't do the one thing it's meant to do.
Does not work, faulty design
It appears that there are two versions of this gate. One that works exactly like it is supposed to and the assembly is reasonable and one that has threads much larger than the provided screws so that it will never assemble correctly. This would probably be great if I had gotten a working version, which it appears is 70% of all orders. I guess that is passing so congratulations but it is a huge waste of money for anyone who gets the nonfunctional one and it should be a simple fix. The screws that are meant to provide the pressure and hold it against the walls are smaller than the holes into which you are meant to insert them. This causes them to slide in and out with complete freedom and therefore you cannot get it to stay up. This was extremely frustrating and a waste of money.
Use only with extreme caution
I had a serious heads-up experience with this product. Yes, the space between the bars is 2-1/2". However, the space at the bottom corners is larger---greater than 4" on my installation because the end rails curve in to meet the bottom rail.
Good buy for us
This is my 3rd gate purchase of this kind. We bought 2 around 2015 and gave them away when we moved, but now I had to buy again because we have a baby that's very curious about my cat's food! Since we liked the first one's so much, I knew this was the gate for us since we need to block her from access to the laundry room, but also be able to go in and out of that area easily since we bring in groceries and laundry from that room. The doorway it's in is quite large, but not large enough to allow us to use the extender, so at first it was a bit worrisome as the feet on the metal screws (used to tighten and retract the gate) were sticking out really far and that made it kind of wobbly. I thought first of adding a 1x4 to the frame to cut down the width, but I actually like the space on the sides as the cats just slide in and out through there (it's not wide enough for the baby of course). They can probably jump it, but they're a bit dumb so I don't want to chance it. So we used left over scraps of base trim on one side where two of the feet meet the doorframe, and presto! it's not wobbly anymore, and there is still room for the cats to sneak through. I like the latch system on this, as it can be managed one-handed, and while my daughter immediately understood that lifting the latch will open the door, she's not yet capable of doing the 2nd part that actually unlocks the latch. We actively hide that feature by using our bodies or distraction.
Narrow opening to step through but fits our needs
For those who have seen images and comments about gates not closing properly or the bolts sliding in and out, don't worry about those comments.
