Slightly enlarge non-slotted light mounting hole

As mentioned by others, installing the last screw for the light is very, very difficult. The hole did Not want to align and it is impossible to see while trying to insert the screw up and in. I should have disconnected the light and drilled that non-slotted hole a little bigger. Also, I apparently have a narrow distance between the mounting screws on my fan-rated electrical box and no rafters or wood alingside, so I had to make a custom bracket to hold it up.

Love this fan.. for a small fan it’s pretty mighty. I bought 2, one for the master bath vanity area and the other for the laundry room. Hallelujah for cool fresh air in the 2 places that get steamy hot. The fan is very quiet at all three speeds and very nice looking. Only thing is it does not come with a remote control so we bought universal remote’s and connected it and removed the pull chains. Works great for us.

Don't let it's size fool you

Don't let the Aker's small size fool you -- this thing can throw some air! Even on low in my small 9x12 bedroom, it's enough to feel the cool.

The over half the screws were stripped. Had an electrician come to hang it and he said he couldn’t hang it because of the screws. I saw them about parts of the screws had the grooves on them and then large parts of the screws would be completely smooth. I’ve never seen anything like it, neither had he. Had to return but out the money for the electric to come take one fan down, unbox this fan put some of it together, rebox it, and put the old fan back up.

I’ve had this fan in my kids room for 2 years and still love it. It cools the room and is very quiet at the low setting. Also blends in nicely with the white ceiling, I wanted something neutral. And I really like the shorter blades because they have a bunk bed nearby. My kids have done things like thrown stuffed animals at the moving fan, and it’s still functioning. )

Have one of the Aker 36" fans in the kitchen! Very adequate; attractive; and quiet.

Good quality, some flaws.

Solid quality. Looks nice. BUT no colour variety in fan palms. Wanted white with brushed nickel but I had to order from another site since Hunter didn’t ship parts to Canada. Incurred additional costs for this!

LOVE this fan! We had a lot of remodeling going on, and part of it included expanding the breakfast room. Hubs wanted a ceiling fan, which is never a bad idea in our hot, humid climate. But the room is still very narrow, so it needed to be a small fan. I picked this one for the combination of brand, price, reviews, and design (including the enclosed light that won't get as dusty!). I had the idea to paint one side of the blades bright red (our kitchen accent color), and it's just perfect! It puts out a decent amount of air, especially for being so small. We did change the light bulbs to brighter ones and daylight color. I don't have it handy, but I found specs somewhere for the maximum safe wattage, and that's what we went with. It also cooperates nicely with our smart dimmer and smart fan speed controller. (We're still working out the table and furniture stuff in this room!)

Nice ceiling fan!

This is an excellent fan that fits in smaller rooms or spots where you have limited space for a ceiling fan. Keep in mind it's still 36" across! Overall, putting the fan together is simple. Two notes about installation ... first, this fan has a triangular shaped hanging knob, so if you're trying to use an existing round fan mount it won't work. My plan was to just pop this new fan into the old mount and call it day, but I had to replace my older ceiling mount that fit the round knob of the old fan. And, secondly, if you have to install the ceiling mount that comes with this fan, it might not line up with your existing electrical box screw holes. I had to move my new mount over a couple inches to mount to a stud in the ceiling. The cowling that goes between the fan and the ceiling is fairly large and covered most of the gap. I had to patch a small area. It's a nice looking fan. I guess the low setting is just to circulate air. Medium speed is decent and the high setting is good. I put this fan in my master bathroom and the high speed is perfect for when we take hot showers. The light is bright also. I would get this fan again or a larger one if they have it for other rooms.

Tricky to install. Start two screws into the "motor housing"; align "keyholes" in "light kit assembly" to those screws; turn counterclockwise; then tighten. The tricky part is threading a screwdriver through the tightly packed wiring to tighten the screws (I could not add the 3rd screw as recommended). Required a lot of patience and multiple tries. Once installed, an excellent product, good light and air movement (installed in a narrow hall). I have it on a switch; when the switch is turned off and back on, the light comes back on, but the fan has to be turned on manually every time, a slight disadvantage. But an attractive, functional fan.

Bad Design, Very Poor Craftsmanship

First, I have a lifetime of experience installing ceiling fans so this was not my first time. There were many problems with this fan. 1st: the head of the screws that came with the fan would not allow for any tool to drive them into the ceiling support structure - so I had to use long decking screws. 2nd: the blade design was terrible. Each blade slides into thin slits in the canopy and must be attached with screws that must be put into small wells in the underside of the canopy. Because of the area to work with it was difficult - versus the typical fan blade which is screwed to an exterior arm that is easily accessible. 3rd: the three predrilled holes in the light kit unit did not match up with the holes in the motor housing. This, obviously, was due to very poor craftsmanship and lack of quality control in the manufacturing process! I could only put in two of the screws as a result. This was a very bad experience and a very negative reflection of Hunter brand fans!!!!!

Perfect Modern Bedroom Fan

I was searching for fans for my two bedrooms that would fit my modern aesthetic and not break the bank at the same time. This fan works well on both accounts. I like the option of blade colors as I needed something with the lighter wood grain. The design is modern and sleek without being too specific and would fit with many different furniture styles. Even the switch to reverse the flow of the air is hidden under the light cover so you don't have to see that. The fan light is nice and bright, and the fan itself is quiet when in use. I purchased remotes to go with my fans that have a dimmer feature, but the bulbs that come with this fan won't dim, so that is the only thing that I need to switch out. Otherwise I am completely happy with the look and the function. I hired my electrician to do the install and it took him about 2.5 hours to assemble the fans, connect the remotes to them, remove my ceiling lights put in new fan rated electrical boxes and install the fans.

I purchased two Hunter Aker 36" fans for my kitchen and breakfast nook. The fans run silently and efficiently. The L.E.D. lighting that came with the fans is bright and has a nice color temperature for the kitchen. I have installed each of the fans on a standard wall switch, and must pull the chains to adjust the fan speed as needed. But, after checking on the Hunter website, I have learned that a "remote" wall switch can be installed to replace the standard wall switch, controlling the fans and lights "remotely". As soon as they become available I will be retrofitting the "remote" switches.

Warning, this fan is virtually impossible to install with the stubby down pipe, because there is maybe 1/2" clearance between the ceiling and the canopy cover. This greatly makes it more difficult to make the connection between house and fan wiring. The recomended assembly sequence is also problematic. If I had to install this fan again, I would install fan blades and light kit first (sans glass globe), flip it over and install the down tube, canopy and lift the assembly into the ceiling mounting bracket. Obviously, care must be taken not to stress or damage the fan blades. Connecting the fan blades and the light assembly in the vertical pendant mode is no fun at all. I have installed several ceiling fans and am very experinced mechanically. I agree with other reviews that making the connection between the two 9 pin connectors is unnessarily bothersme because there is very little slack. Ditto installing mounting screws in a very tight and cluttered box.

Nice fan, Challenging installation

I like the fan. It is attractive and or works well but installion was a challenge. I have installed 5 other ceiling fans and this was the most difficult. The fan blades were harder than most to mount because of the angle and the placement through the sides of the housing. It might be easier to mount them before hanging the fan but that was not the recommendation of the instructions. The other difficult part was threading the last screw on the light mount up through all the wires to the base. Using a magnetic screw driver and pulling as much of the wiring out as possible would help. I checked that I would recommend the fan to a friend but the recommendation would come with a warning about the installation.

The Aker 36-inch fan works well in our small home office. It runs very quiet on the slow and medium speeds, which is all that is needed to cool a small room. It's size is good for the visual scale of the small room, and the white color was a good choice for a white ceiling. The two LED 60-watt equivalent SOFT WHITE bulbs were not bright enough, since the globe is frosted white. We replaced the bulbs with LED DAYLIGHT bulbs, which was brighter but still "softened" by the frosted white globe.

Quiet, but difficult to install. Pull chains poor

This Hunter fan is very quiet. However, it is very difficult to install. The instructions are fair at best. Hunter wants you to connect the light coupling and then try and screw the light to the housing through a menagerie of wires with small screws. Crazy. To make life easier, remove all the screws holding the power base and then attach the light. This worked much better.

Not the best design for installation

I had difficulty getting screws into one set of fan blade holes. I don't know if the tolerances were too tight for the threads either on the screw or base plate, but I wasted more time time than it should have taken. Entrance angle was critical. Worse was the attachment of the light kit. One of the holes would not accept the machine threaded screw. After about an hour of trying, I used a small wood screw. Also, view and access to the three screws attaching the light to the fan were hampered by the mess of wiring. Even the light dome was harder to screw into place because its housing turned as you tried to turn it. A second person holding onto the housing while another screwed the dome into place would have been ideal. Doing all on a ladder was back straining.

We've installed at least a dozen ceiling fans over the years in our house and we've never seen one so poorly designed for assembly and installation. It literally takes 2 people just to install the final glass shade because you have to turn it just so (not threaded) to click in place - impossible to do because you have to hold the rest of the unit immobile/still to do so - and that's not even the worst part. To install the last electrical piece in the fitting, you have to line up incredibly small screws with impossible to see holes - and pretty much the same with blades - 3 screws each with washers. First the blades go into curved slots and then you have to hold the blade steady AND the unit steady and "just so" and then line up the screws with impossible to see holes (the plate is painted black), and screw in. If you don't have a magnet bit, you can forget about even trying to install. And the icing on the cake.....the fan reverse switch is INSIDE of the glass shade so you have to remove that cover first - again a two person, two stepladder job. The whole thing is simply ridiculous! At one point, I told my husband to rip it out and we would just go buy another one! But he had already invested too much time in it. All in all, I would say it took us close to 3 hours to install! And we're pretty handy! I can't believe that anyone who had to install this thing would give it 5 stars. And if they paid to have it installed, I guarantee they were were charged more than most ceiling fan installations. HD should forward this review to Hunter so they know how poorly this unit is designed for installation and assembly.
