Don't buy this refrigerator!

Don't buy! This refrigerator stopped working after 24 months. I hired two different repairmen and got the same diagnosis. Diagnostics couldn't detect a problem and both men said it's probably a leak in the coolant line that would be very costly and possibly impossible to repair. Had to move this frig to our garage and now use it as a VERY expense cabinet for tools. Warranty is only for 1 year.

Too much humidity

Bought this about five months ago. Within a month had high moisture/humidity levels throughout including crisper drawers. Food spoiled in days. Had two service calls from the store technician and four from GE authorized technicians. They said there was nothing wrong, but yet ordered and installed several parts and wouldn’t allow the store tech to replace the gaskets. The store eventually replaced the gaskets and we still have a problem. We sent pictures of a thermometer we put in refrigerator over several day period with humidity levels to the store to forward to their GE rep. No response. The humidity levels ranged from 65 to 85% and the temperature fluctuates from 37 to 45. Don’t recommend this model,

Beware of Purchasing this GE Refrigerator Unit

The Unit Freezer Unit failed after 3 months. The Evaporator Unit, valves, and other Components

Run away from GE their service is horrible

This fridge broke after 4 months. Freezer stopped working. I have had 5 visits over 6 weeks and it is still not working. Now the fridge portion is not cooling as well. We have had the compressor, main board (twice) and three way evaporator valve replaced. Why was I not given a new product instead of doing all these repairs and breaking the closed system when the product is less than 5 months old? Why did I have to wait 2-3 days between each repair? Why do I have to wait for the parts to arrive before scheduling the repair? Apparently it is more convenient for GE to make a customer wait than to reschedule an appointment because the parts did not arrive. Why am I lied to by the tech says things can't be expedited and customer relations when they way they are expediting things? Why am I lied to an told a lead tech I have personally requested will be on the service call and even wait 20 minutes on the line for it to be confirmed, only to have another tech arrive? Even escalating the problem with customer relations brings no resolution, which is not surprising seeing that it was proven on the call the the "supervisor" (#2405234) was not even listening to me. She told the tech she did not know he was there though I had told her that just 5 minutes prior. Then she get surly and defensive and refuses to connect me with her supervisor. So it is not a question on whether the product is reliable-it is not, but if the service is this bad, where they make you wait, miss 5 DAYS OF WORK, lie to you, do everything possible not to do the right thing and replace the product, and even the supervisors are rude and unhelpful, how can you chose to buy anything from this company? After they take your money they care nothing about you. I will NEVER buy GE again (and I just bought 2 products in the last 6 months). Ge/Bodewell will write a response saying they want me to get the assistance I need, but it is just lip service. It will just be another unhelpful rep from their horrible customer relations department. I would like to be proven wrong, but I don't think it is even possible because if it takes this much effort to persuade them to do the right thing, it is not a winning proposition to rely on their service. Run away from GE, you will not regret it.

Unreliable, poor ice maker, poor support.

I have had this for 4 months and the evaporator valve is malfunctioning due to the circuit board giving it faulty instruction (according to the tech). This has caused the freezer to stop freezing and I lost a bunch of food. Unfortunately, this happened on Memorial Day weekend, and I had to 4 days (3 business days) for a technician to arrive. I then had to wait 4-5 business days for the circuit board to be shipped because apparently, even though I paid over $2K for this fridge, GE won't pay to have it shipped express. Now I have been calling and texting the tech for 2 days to find out when I can get this installed and he is unresponsive. I cannot get help from GE because they think it wise to not offer support on the weekends and when you call on the weekdays, hold times are over 30 minutes. This is not even to mention that the ice maker never worked correctly, and you often have to break the ice apart because the rows of ice free together; and the horrible plastic you are left with at every edge because they put on the plastic prior to installing the finish pieces. This same problem occurred with both models of this fridge I have had, as the first one arrived with scratches, and I had it for 3 months while Best Buy got another one in. There is just such poor attention to detail and quality control I cannot suggest anyone purchase GE refrigerator.

poor craftsmanship and longevity

I'm not someone who enjoys writing a negative review but this fridge clearly lacks the quality craftsmanship this large company once had. We bought this fridge almost 5 years ago to the day and today I was told (after being charged $145 by a GE technician, who was actually very nice) that this fridge is significantly broken and would cost north of $1800 to fix. Theres an issue with coolant leaking, and basically all cooling components would need to be changed. Why would a major component fail other than either craftsmanship or the lack of quality materials used. Up until today I would have told you this is an excellent fridge. From the beautiful look, the lighting inside, and the spacing, this is exactly what my wife and I wanted in a fridge. That said I'm not even 5 years in on a $2400 fridge. Think about that. If you're trying to decide between what you think is a quality company that stands by their product more than one year (on an very expensive item) and that of a 30% cheaper competitor - that's what's going on in my head right now. Almost my entire house is GE including everything in my laundry room.

[Rewarded Review] Failed under 3 years of life

Incredibly disappointed in this product. When thinking about appliance life, one would expect a minimum of 5 years and I would think at least 10 years on average for a major appliance such as this. In just under three years an internal sealed component has gone out and the cost to replace might as well be a new unit. We purchased this model based on positive consumer reports but unfortunately sometimes you get the outlier or sometimes it just takes a little time for reliability issues to creep up. Needless to say GE is back off our list of appliance vendors.

Short life Span

I don't like to be a negative person, but paid a pretty penny for this piece. It's been 3 years and the fridge just stop working. Although I do not have an extended warranty on the fridge, I still expect GE to be accommodating when it comes to fixing it and not charge me an arm and leg. 3 Years is clearly a ridiculous life span for the price of the fridge. I believe it's due to a lack of craftsmanship and defects in the pieces, but GE just says too bad. Last time I will shop GE. Don't recommend buying this ride/freezer or this brand.

This is one large refrigerator`

We have had our GE refrigerator for about a month now and we are loving it! It took a little getting used to having a refrigerator that extends about 7 inches beyond our cabinets, but it was well worth it --it is so much easier to find items because of all the extra space and the layout is so well done. This model does not have a water dispenser, only an ice maker, which produces a reasonably large quantity of ice for our purposes. Our prior experience with in-door ice/water dispensers (repair issues) as well as online research led us to abandon that convenience feature. Sales personnel at AJ Madison were informative and helpful and the installation went flawlessly. We chose the 5 year extended warranty, which was reasonably priced.

Not a good experience overall

The product is functioning fine so far. The issue was a bait-and-switch by the delivery scheduling. The floor salesman scheduled a delivery date of Mar. 6 (unit was ordered Feb. 26 when our old refrigerator died). I opted to purchase at Lowe’s based on the expected delivery date. I paid $300 more for the unit than at another store, which offered a lower price but a much later (and which I now believe honest) delivery date. About a week after the purchase, Lowe’s changed the delivery date via email to **Mar.15**. Meaning I paid $300 more for a delivery date that wasn’t going to happen, but I also had to go an additional 9 days without a refrigerator (buying ice every night for an ice chest). In addition, once delivered, the installation crew wouldn’t touch the water shut off valve for the existing (non-functioning) refrigerator’s ice maker water line. They had done so on another customer’s project & done thousands of dollars in damage to a kitchen. So I get the reticence. But now I have to add another 3 days to schedule & wait for a licensed plumber to come and do that. Lowe’s still has to haul away the old one — they couldn’t do that because they wouldn’t disconnect the existing one. And the doors on the new unit are not yet adjusted, so they’re not level, even though we’ve needed to use it in the meantime. It would’ve been cheaper to order at the other store that offered the honest Mar. 15 delivery date (as both stores were getting the unit from a GE warehouse in LA) and have a plumber scheduled to do the disconnect prior to the delivery. In any case, this whole purchase did not go well but at least we know not to do this through Lowe’s again.

Stylish and lots of space !

I really love the fridge. The shelves inside are big can fit gallon containers on either side. The freezer is awesome , with the 2 different shelves. There is plenty of room for everything.. The inside lighting is unique also. They are directed to the inside and get brighter as u open the doors .. I would highly recommend !

Poor quality all around

I don't like to write negative reviews because I prefer to be a positive person but I have had nothing but problems since I bought this fridge. I have had a repair person out five times in two years! Food freezes in the refrigerator, the temperature fluctuates by 20 degrees regularly. The shelves on the door have been replaced twice and need replacing again. There are large cracks in the shelves from holding nothing more than milk and ketchup. These shelves are defective. When I called GE today, I was told that even though I bought new shelves a year ago, they will not replace them for free because the fridge is no longer under warrantly. I just wonder why a fridge needs to have door shelves replaces every year.

Overall nice fridge.

The doors have to be pushed to close them. They don't close 'easily'.

Great Refrgerator

Looked at refrigerators and read reviews for a month, luckily there was an old fridge left by previous owner, so we had time to shop. GE was definitely a leader in reviews. We had a previous GE about 7 years ago that was very problematic. However the reliability of other brands was terrible. Talk to repair people as there are still a lot of part shortages for some brands. We have had our new GE for over a month and love it runs very quietly, you will hear the ice maker if you are near the fridge when ice drops. Our model is a large French door no ice or water in the door due to that being a problem for almost all brands. It does have an ice maker and there is a filter in the fridge for that. We bought this model due to it having the better drawers and shelves and bright LED lighting It is very solid. Also, went full depth as counter was just too small. We like to cook and have a big garden. I went 4 stars on review since we have only had it a month

Great fridge, but misrepresented on website

I had a refrigerator similar to this one in a previous home. The only feature that seemed to be lacking in this refrigerator was the slide-under, space maker shelf, but I was told by my dealer that I could order that as an aftermarket item. One feature that was really important to me was the actual temperature display. My previous refrigerator had this feature, and it came in handy when the refrigerator had an issue with the evaporator fan motor, and the display read in the 50s. I was able to repair it myself but was thankful I discovered the problem in time to save my food.

We love our new refrigerator!

Our previous refrigerator was a GE french door refrigerator (built in ice-maker, but no built-in water dispenser) purchased in 2009. Our previous fridge was a little smaller (23 cf) and lasted about 11 years before starting to have problems. The main issue was temperature regulation.... the fridge would get warmer than appropriate and then try to adjust by getting colder than desired. So food would spoil faster and develop a "freeze" layer.

Waited 7 months, arrived slightly marred.

This fridge took an eternity to arrive after ordering it at Lowe's- from the beginning of August 2021 until the end of February 2022- a week shy of seven months. It's now two months later and my wife and I are still joking about the delivery time. When it did finally arrive, it all looked good on the outside, but when we got it inside and went to set it up, the main plastic shell/tub inside, where it flanges out to the face, was all scraped up. Looked like it had maybe been slid across a concrete floor face down. The ice tray looked very similarly treated. Lowe's ended up giving us a small refund so that we would keep it, and we couldn't risk having to wait another 7 months with our old fridge the way it was sounding. Overall we're happy with it. Food is lasting longer now that it's cold enough, and it's more efficient and spacious than the old one. I just wish it had been treated a little better in assembly. I would recommend a GE fridge, maybe just not this one since it took SO stinking long. If you like a model that's in stock in a store, you'd be better off.

Way better than the Kenmore it replaced

I had a very similar style refrigerator made by Kenmore that was purchased at the local Sears Hometown store. It lasted a wopping 3yrs 9mos! Anyway we opted to replace with another new fridge rather than deal with the wait of replacement parts etc. After much research discovered the GE is basically the last man standing when it comes to (mostly) being made in USA. Local stores only had GE Refrigerators that ran $3k and up, we weren’t willing to do that given the uncertainty of longevity plus options we didn’t care about. SO, was very excited to find style we wanted online. Ordering was seamless and it shipped out the next day from eastern US. 7 WEEKS LATER (not kidding) it arrived at our house (it sat at the receiving warehouse waiting to get checked in -COVID labor shortages I’m sure). Moving on… fridge arrived completely intact, and no start up issues. We’ve now had it about a month and I have to say we’re very pleased. It’s very quiet and the ice output is more than adequate and I personally use a lot of ice, constantly filling up my water cup with ice. Just the 2 of us but to be clear, with previous Kenmore fridge I had to keep plastic ice trays in the freezer because the ice output was terrible (& noisy). Bottom line, we did opt to buy extended 5yr warranty (just in case) but my vote is GE is the way to go!!!

28 cu ft GE French Door

I ordered the GE 28 cu ft french door refrigerator site unseen. I had been looking for the "right one" for weeks, actually many weeks on end, due to lack of availability as a direct result of Covid issues. I couldn't be happier! It It's quiet, it's very roomy (of course), it's got LED lighting (lights up like an airport runway at night) and it has TwinChill evaporators which is explained as, "separate climates in the fresh food and freezer sections help keep foods fresh!" I read about the availability of this feature in a consumer magazine article and anticipate the benefits of it in the long term. I'm quite pleased this refrigerator comes with this feature because, who likes throwing away food, not me! At first, I didn't like that the top doors didn't close easily by just slightly pushing on them. But I soon appreciated that by exerting slighly more pressure on the door handle made certain that the door was definitely sealed. I say I appreciated this feature because of a recent visit from my grandchildren. It seemed like, more times than not, every time they pulled an item out of the frig and walked away, the door alarm went off thus telling me that they didn't close the door. Now, however; having to gently push these doors closed, guarantees a definite seal the first time! Additionally, in case you've lost one too many brain cells on a particular day than another, there's also the door ajar alarm, so there's no second guessing! If GE would've consulted me on this feature, I would've made it slightly louder, but alas they didn't, but I can live with it while some of you may have to adjust your hearing aids. Ha ha! This GE comes with a full-sized ice bin! Now, this may seem petty to some but it was a deal breaker for me. All competitive models I looked at came with half size ice bins. Really, a half size ice bin in a full size large refrigerator for a large family??? It's peace of mind knowing I'll never run out of ice for my party!!! And who doesn't appreciate the full width storage drawer for larger serving items or to hide dessert for later serving. And mind you...it glides easily, never sticking or coming off track! Yep, I love my GE model refrigerator, can you tell!

Not up to quality standards!

We ordered this fridge in Sept. 2020, after our previous GE died at 10 years old. We had to wait over 2 months for this fridge, and were initially very excited--it is so well-laid out and spacious, and has everything we wanted! But then, after about 2 weeks, the freezer started running warmer...and warmer...We contacted service, and a GE repairman showed up. We have never had any negative experiences with GE repairmen before, but this particular serviceman was demeaning, rude and condescending and he said there was nothing wrong with the fridge, which clearly was not the case. Since the freezer still wouldn't maintain temperature, PCRichards decided just to swap it out--but this was easier said than done.
