Our previous fixture did not have a stem. I loved the stem on this on by Capitol Lighting. It wasnt too long, but just long enough. It was pretty and in my budget, so we bought it, hoping its sturdy enough for most high winds. And, I tell you, its beautiful! So pretty. So far, I recommend.
