[Rewarded Review] Looks good and works very well
This Yale Assure Lock ticked every box I needed. Lever handle for ease of opening as we age and don't have the dexterity needed for to turn knob handles. Matte black. Key pad entry with ability to hand out key codes to family/guests that I can eliminate when gone. Easy to install in my metal door without a deadbolt. The one drawback is that the strike plate hole for the latch did not match the location of my old strike plate and latch hole. So I used the old brass strike plate and spray painted it black. Unfortunately where the latch scrapes the strike plate the paint soon wore away. But it is not seen except for the brief moment the door is opened. A month installed and no problems.
DO NOT BUY THIS! MOTOR DIES EVERY COUPLE MONTHS
I bought 2 of these during Black Friday sale 2023, but didn’t install it until late January 2024. At first they seemed great but then around April the lock stopped working with the keypad. It wouldn’t lock or u lock using the keypad and the only way to lock or unlock was the thumb turn or the key that came with it. I spoke with Yale support and they heard that the motor wasn’t initiating and sent me a replacement. I installed the replacement and it was working fine again until today. The original lasted 4 months, the replacement lasted 2 months. Yale is now sending me another replacement but I’m concerned that they have something going on with their components or design and they are going to keep sending me replacements until my warranty has expired and then I’m going to have $500 regular lever locks. I asked for a refund today so I could go buy a different brand because I don’t want to be out $500 for locks that don’t work like they are supposed to. DO NOT BUY THESE!
very short warranty for an expensive item
I purchased this two and a quarter years ago and it broke down 2 months ago. The electronics never worked properly and eventually I could not use the handle from the inside of my house. That's correct I cannot get out of my house from the inside. Yale will not replace this lock since it is outside the warranty. to be fair they offered me 20% off a new purchase. I'm not sure why I would spend another $200 for something that's only going to work 18 months.
Failing product
I bought this product over a year ago for our AirBnb and it worked fine at first, however, things slowly started to go wrong with increased frequency. There are minorish issues such as the battery indicator for doorknob no longer reflecting on app, the app would show the door as unlocked when it is actually locked, but the worst is our guests access code expiring prematurely. Attempts to create a temp code fails during these times as well (I installed a lockbox to hold the physical key as a result. This should only be for emergencies but we're resorting to this more often). I've tried contacting Yale for support and requested replacement but they bombard you with endless questions and hand you off to the next person where you must answer the same questions +more. In one of my many interactions, they mentioned me being an AirBnB co-host (wife is main host) was the reason why the guests code ends prematurely and they CLOSED THE CASE. This didn't make any sense and I responded with incredulous belief and they ultimately apologies and reopened the case, however, things did not get any better. Again they respond with the same questions and very often not responding to my own questions.
Good lock-protective film doubled install time
Good lock, but protective film would not cleanly remove from front side of lock and pieces were still stuck there after install and were unsightly. I figured that I needed to reverse my steps and take apart the lock so I could remove the film fragments. I got the pieces off the front face plate that were caught between it and the door, but this nearly doubled my install time. My only other complaint is that the door levers feel a bit loose and I wish they had a tighter fit.
Not recommended
Just under 2 years of use it just stopped working. Reached out to customer service and was told the only way is to replace it with a whole new product. Warranty only covers 1 year... is that just how much confidence in quality it has over the mechnical/electronic functions? I can see other reviews where others also experienced the same of lasting around only 2 years. They offered 25% discount but it is still a very expensive product for under 2 years of use, not to mention the waste it creates. I have decided to bear the cost of calling a handyman and new product to switch to a different lock as there is no faith that the new lock will last more than 2 years. What a waste of cost...
DO NOT BUY THIS until Yale offer a 3 year warranty
Given the price of this product, a 1 year warranty does not make sense. I purchased this unit and installed it correctly per the instructions provided by Yale. The unit worked correctly just under 2 years, and started having a "jamming error". I called Yale support and they confirmed it's a common & "Known" issue with the motor. Unfortunately, they only offer a 1 year warranty. Although they said it's not typical, they confirmed it's a common issue. They only offered a 20% discount for a new one

The unit worked correctly just under 2 years, and started having a "jamming error". I called Yale support and they confirmed it's a common & "Known" issue with the motor and would need to be replaced. I escalated this 6 times asking if they would make an exception based on the confirmation of it being a known issue, but because it is out of warranty, they will not replace it.
Fails by design due to one cheap plastic part
I bought this as it looks great and for the brand name. Worked great until it kept eating batteries every 2 weeks. Turns out the plastic gears were worn and the system struggles to disengage. Why would they use cheap plastic gears on a mechanism that the whole thing depends on? I saw really old Schlage and Kwikset locks built and perform like tanks. Really disappointed on a great looking set from the outside but very cheap build on the inside. If I were the manufacturer I would have use metals gears on the inside and plastic everywhere else to save money. It would work at the least and not fail so easily.
DO NOT BUY A YALE ELECTRONIC LOCK EVER!
I bought a Yale lock -- looked great and the installation was ok for mechanicals but not very intuitive for electronics. Anyway, I was able to make it work. Trouble started 3 months into use though. Door sense would need to be calibrated every so often -- painful so say the least.
No more keys. Simple & Convenient
Our family luvs this lock. We came back from a trip and we were getting things from the car to our home and when Blu (standard double doodle) swiftly ran the door slammed and we got locked out. We had the lock of situation twice. With lockout it not just the cost for locksmith but we had to wait for hours for the locksmith to turnout. That is when we decided to buy Yale, it was also compatible with the Ring alarm pro we had.

Stylish, High-tech, Upgradable. The Yale Assure Lever in Satin Nickel Lock with Wi-Fi and Touchscreen Keypad is an upgrade for those who want to minimize the circulation of keys or control access for one time users. This keypad lock kit can be installed using a #2 Philips screwdriver for an existing lock and knob replacement. This kit was a synch to install and have operational in a matter of minutes. Everything was included in the kit which made using predrilled holes simple and easy. The keypad lights up only when touching the Yale icon and goes black when no input is applied. The lock engagement and disengagement can be done using the keypad or the turn know inside. Transition is smooth and quiet as expected of a Yale locking system. The high end look and feel of the hardware adds style and accessibility to any exterior entry door. The one drawback found was the push catches which hold the handles secure can not be adjusted to tighten the handles should they begin to loosen from their position. Secondly the exterior handle and turnkey tumbler can be removed from the outside via the handle catch pins.

This lock came in nicely packed and protected so online ordering is certainly an option. Everything was organized very well and protected from scuffs and scrapes.

I will first say that this is not a lock I would ever recommend, it has a major security flaw. You can simply press the little button down that holds the lever on, from the protected side (from outside), and manipulate the lock from outside by inserting a screwdriver and simulating the turning of the cylinder rod, or put in a new cylinder, put the lever back on, and unlock using the new key from the new cylinder. That little button that holds the lever on is the weak spot. Since it is silver and the lockset is black, it is obvious. I colored the button with a black sharpie marker to make it less obvious. This is being used for an interior door that is of no consequence if entered, so not worried about this flaw. It is simply a convenience lock.

Our 30 year old door and locking system need replacing as you can see in my photo. We went to Home Depot and ordered a new door and paid for installation and delivery. We also ordered online this very sharp looking Yale satin nickel assure lever lock, which matches all the other lever handles in our home. The Yale lock came before our new door did, but I wanted to check out the quality while waiting for the installer and new door to arrive.

Stylish, simple solution to upgrade the security of your home with a few minor issues. No more keys! We got the Assure for the back door to our garage to replace an existing lever with a simple keyed lockset. We keep a spare key hidden near the door for repairmen, exterminator and so on, but they frequently forget to return the key. It is a pain, so the keypad is a great solution. Yale does offer an optional internet connection module for this lock so you can remotely operate the lock, say to let the exterminator or dog walker in while you are at work. In our case, we prefer just to use the key pad and not fuss with a phone and app. Enter the code, press the check box and you are in. Simply push the Yale symbol on your way out and it locks. Total install time for this replacement was about 20 minutes. The install is more involved than a typical lever handle and lockset, but can easily be done by a homeowner. Things we really like about the Assure: Install was relatively straight forward, the finish is nice and the lock looks nice on the house. There are some things that we are not so pleased with. The latch plate and bolt come with a protective plastic cover that leaves a sticky mess when you peal it off. Some mild soap and water and a cloth removed it, but annoying. The keypad function is not intuitive. You have to press the Yale button to wake the lock up, then enter your PIN, then press the tiny check mark. I may have to post instructions! We are also not pleased with the fitment of the handles, they are loose and don't feel solid or of quality. When you lock the door from the inside using the twist knob, it only locks the door from the outside, the door still opens from the inside. This means you can't confirm the door is locked from inside. I'm sure this is some safety function, but strange that you can't confirm the door is locked. Programming is a bit complex and no "overall" programming tree is provided (to set a code you use path 2, but the programming tree diagram starts at 3). And make sure you keep the instructions somewhere you will remember 'cause you will need them again! The Assure is a nice retrofit solution but could use a few improvements to make it an outstanding product.
A few things you need to know.
First, This lock can be hacked with a paperclip and a screwdriver. If someone easily removes the outside handle, they are in. Second, Make sure you get one with a key backup. They are not bulletproof. Some models have no key. Third, After half an hour I could not get the Indore side of the lock to sit flat against the door and backing plate. Bad design. Fourth, Don't waste your time calling support if the zwave does not function as it should. They will not help you. Fifth, Alexa will not control this lock or scenes containing the lock. On the install, the lock paired with our Vera Plus controller but there was zero functionality. It was necessary to unpair and factory reset the lock before pairing it a second time. Once properly installed the lock did most everything we were looking forward to. It does have some weird features like requiring you to press the check key after entering your code. The design flaw that interferes with the indoor portion of the lock sitting flat against the door was disappointing. I spent a half hour messing with it trying to overcome this problem before it was obvious that someone needed to spend time on the CAD design. Three stars - It's not terrible, but it just seems like it was never completed with flaws resolved and adequate support for a product at this level.
Best option on the market
I have now purchased 10 of these for use inside my home, and 2 of the deadbolt versions for my front and back door. Mine are all set up with the IM1/ Apple HomeKit module so I can control everything on my phone or with Siri. There are quite a few small things that I could complain about or that could be better, but when you compare these to everything else there is on the market, price and functionality wise these cannot really be beat. In my opinion they look great, function efficiently and the batteries last a very long time, only needing to be changed about once a year even with heavy use. Complaints: (1) You cannot use lithium batteries which should make the battery life even better and more convenient. These devices are specifically made for alkaline batteries, and if you try to use lithium batteries they will drain extremely fast, over just a few days. (2) the Yale iOS app Gives me an error about the privacy button not responding on these lever locks every time you open the app to change the settings (I am not sure if this happens in the android app as well because I haven’t tried it ) The reason is because there is no privacy button on the lever locks like some of their other locks that I have (the deadbolt versions). They need to update the app to account for this. (3) when updating the firmware there can be kind of a lag time where the lock is still updating but The app keeps telling you there’s a firmware update over and over again (just ignore it and close out the app for 5 min after the firmware seems complete), and if you try to change the locks settings right after you do an update you can cause problems freeze up the whole thing and have to factory reset it. This is again a issue with the app not the lock itself. The app should walk you through the installation better. (4) I wish you could set it so that the lock will automatically re-lock immediately, and I wish you could set it to automatically re-lock after a longer period like 10-30 minutes, but the only options are between 10 sec to 3 min. (5) I have tried setting up the newer August Wi-Fi module but it seems to be complete garbage. The set up has multiple confusing stages and I got tons of errors and the Bluetooth range for the august connect bridge was horrible. (6) Yale does not sell regular door knobs with this lever/handle style. Since most of my doors in my home have this installed, I was really hoping to replace all the regular knobs on the doors that I did not install these on with similar looking handles that match but they do not offer anything like that, which I thought was pretty odd. *update* They do sell a liver called the Yale Academy lever that looks the same, but it does not come in oil-rubbed bronze because the people at Yale are apparently imbeciles.
