Easy to apply and easy clean up

Bought this after returning a paraffin-type, oil -based competitor's product. Even though the price was twice as much, the UV protection and easy clean up make the value worth it.

This is yellow, not clear.

This stain has a yellow pigment to it, it's not clear. We stained red cedar with it and the beautiful whites, pinks and reds we started with were all tinted yellow. I should have stopped immediately upon opening the can and seeing the yellow. My mistake.

Dangerous

DANGEROUS!!! DON'T USE!!! There is a statement on label indicating that product may be slippery until weathered. IT IS VERY SLIPPERY AND YOU TRACK IT IN HOUSE. EVEN AFTER 3 HOURS OF DRYING. VINYL FLOORS ARE TOO SLIPPERY TO WALK ON.HAD TO CLEAN FLOORS NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE FAMILY AND PETS STOPPED SLIPPING AND FALLING DOWN COUPLE TIMES.

So Far So Good !

Easy to apply with a paint sprayer, clean up is nothing. I was fortunate enough to purchase it when there was a 20% discount on it, and coupled with my Veterans discount, made it very affordable, I like to product BUT, at normal price of $212 + tax, you better use is wisely, Choose you spray tip to allow for a 4” spray pattern and dial back the velocity of the sprayer.

Not thrilled with one coat finish.

Product is very thin, water like but does have some pigment. When dry, water does bead off the wood. Not sure how well this will hold up to the weather, time will tell.

Perfect On Pressure Treated Exactly As Described

Application - newly build pressure treated deck seasoned 6 months , cleaned. 1 gallon pump sprayer, Cabot Deck Brush, Cabot Deck Pad. 16’x 18’ deck took 1 1/4 to apply. Used 1 1/2 gallons. Exactly what I was looking for ! A non oil based PENETRATING sealer with easy application, clean up , fast dry that is not an acrylic and actually penetrates. Kudos to Cabot ! Yes the slight tint yellow color which vanished on my pressure treated as it penetrated and dried is needed to see coverage. “ Thin is In” I did not over cover. I expect two years out of this then easy peasy power wash - clean followed by an 1 1/4 application time again. It won’t peal , need sanding because it penetrated. Before and After Pics below No I am not team Cabot nor a painter just a builder doing his own deck. In fact I have a S.W. Paint account but steered away from their waterborne sealer. Pays looking at MSD sheets ;-)

Pouring from 5 gallon can

Applying the stain to my deck was very easy. So was the cleanup. Time will tell whether the stain lives up to my expectations. However, pouring stain from the 5 gallon can into a smaller container was a mess. I have used other products in 5 gallon cans that had plastic, pullout spouts to make pouring easy and without the mess of spilled product. These large cans need a spout of some kind.

Recommend for NON walking surfaces. (FENCES)

I used this product 2 years ago for a new cedar wood fence. I applied almost immediately after fence was installed. 2 years later fence still looks great. You can buy in different color stains but I wanted clear. This Southeast Texas weather can be brutal. This product is holding up well. Time will tell on longevity. All your gonna get out of a wood fence is 15 to 20 years.

Water not Beading

Applied on a pressure treated deck. Went in easily and dried fairly quickly. However I noticed water is NOT beading up on the surface. Is this normal? Should I apply a second coat?

Slippery when dry

Cabot should be a quality product, but this was not. Applied to my decks front and back allowed to dry for 48 hours. Deck is slippery when dry. This could cause an unexpected accident waiting to happen. I would not recommend this product.

Cabot Clear Wood Protector

Ok so a lot of very negative reviews here. I'm glad I didn't read them as I probably would've passed. The product is amazingly effective, so effective that I think it scares people. It's odorless and goes down quickly. At first I thought that the product was not going to protect my deck but it did. It's very thin and runny. Water beads immediately after cure. Call me a convert. Don't mis out on superior protection. My deck is around a pool. Be sure to mix thoroughly before and during application. Don't be quick to judge. It's weird stuff but wow dos it ever work.
