Weak Hinges

I bought this a month ago. The box is large and handy but I find the hinges are a little weak. Every time I close the lid of the tool box the hinge sticks until I force it close making a loud noise. I expect this to fail eventually.

I needed a medium sized box to put camping kitchen equipment that was robust and sealed out road dust and water. This box is a perfect application for that and is very well made: the hinges and latches are strong and positive. The interior molded in guides make for easy compartmentalizing. And the whole thing is thick enough to hold up to heavy use. I like it. A lot!

Dealt Tool Storage

So I bought this system about a month ago. I live in a townhouse condo so buying a big tool box was really not in the cards. I am a Mechanic so I work on cars and I also do a lot of DIY around the house. I bought this system because of its modular abilities. I have to say I am really happy with it! The amount of add ons is just incredible and the fact that I can get a wall storage unit and then pack everything away in the basement is a real plus! It organizes everything really well and I can just separate everything into abilities and tools. I would recommend this system to anyone!

There is a design flaw with the hinges of the lid. I’ve tried three different xl boxes. All have the same flaw. When closing the lid it makes a popping cracking sound as though it’s breaking. It’s hard to close. Don’t know how to remedy that. I’ve kept two to see how long before they break!

Fits my Dewalt cordless air compressor!!! BARELY!

I wanted to protect my new Dewalt Cordless air compressor during transport. It has a heavy-duty plastic "guard frame", but that's not enough to protect it from sliding and bouncing around in the back of truck or van with other heavy and/or metal tools and parts. This heavy-duty toolbox is JUST BARELY large enough to fit the compressor...IF you face the compressor "face down" when putting it in the box. It does NOT fit any other way. The compressor rubs against the inside of the toolbox when sliding into the box, so a VERY snug (but not TOO tight) fit.

I'm completely satisfied with the system. I was torn between a few for my garage organization. I researched extensively for my perfect fit and this is it. I'm not in desperate need to have them clip together but it's neat that they can. The huge sell for me was the vertical wall storage. Not only that it can but that it comes with lots of arms for the roughly $100 price point. For the money this is a more complete system for almost an entry level price. You would have to either build a lot of shelves or buy a lot of on wall units depending on what system you went with otherwise. I have no bad things to say, this is a perfect fit for me.

DEWALT TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 22 in. Extra Large Tool Box - Hinge issues

I recently purchased The System 2.0 Extra Large Tool Box, first couple times I opened the lid, I hear popping sounds coming from the hinges, the next time I opened it i heard cracking sounds and popping sound stopped, I appears that pieces of the plastic hinge of sheered off leaving little pieces of plastic hinge broken off.

I am a home DIYer and have 2 of these plus the 24” mobile tool box. One X-large box for corded tools and the other for cordless. I also have a shallow yellow tray in each X-large box for smaller tools, manuals, accessories/blades. They are a breeze to attach together for long term storage/transportation and also to disconnect them to access my tools. For my needs, they will last forever! Strongly recommend the toughsystem 2.0 boxes/trays

At least it snaps on to ToughSystem 1.0 tool boxes.

The only thing good about it is the size. The plastic is thin and the lid design is flawed. The lid holds water from rain or even just morning dew and then when you open the box the water pours right inside the box down the back wall. I should've spent more and bought packout.. .... but I had a few tools that I wanted to put in these that are too big for packout and I thought this would be a great option. Boy was I wrong! I'm stuck with a rolling box, and 2 extra large boxes that I will never use.... especially as they are advertised and marketed. These are garbage imo. Spend a little more and get quality. Black and yellow got me again. I should know better by now.

Good but not perfect

Overall I'm satisfied with the product and it seems to be built to withstand the light amount of abuse I need it to, but there are several improvements places for improvement.

Strong Like Bull

I waited a long time for the a tool pack out kit to be worthy of my hard earned money. I’ve seen the disappointment of my co-workers with the original DEWALT Tough System. The handles would straps would break. The wheels would fall off. I purchased my tool boxes individually in different sizes along with the DEWALT Utility DS Cart to ensure long lasting heavy duty use. I feel more organized and have to make less trips to my vehicle. So far, I’m happy with my purchase and my co-workers are jealous.

Where to keep your tools on your ocean going boat??

This box offers a large bottom area to keep bins of hardware and/or your large hand held power tools. It comes with a tool tray on the top. Nice to layout your job. There is also a nifty tool rack on the back side where pliers, cutters, lineman pliers and your collection of screwdrivers. Close the lid and the vent valve tight and the box is water tight. Make sure the tools are wiped dry and blast them with a little WD40 and these tools should never be susceptible to the salt air and dampness. Careful the box is large and easy to over pack, can get too heavy to lift, risking the weight limits. My biggest problem is selecting the tool types to commit to this box. General mechanics, plumbing, electrical or electronics.

Great Product by Dewalt

The new ToughSystem seems great. I have 5 of the pieces for it and all are well build and serve a purpose. The latching system to hold them all together could be a little more stout instead of plastic clips, however I have yet to break one. The DS400 is great for someone that wants to carry hand tools etc and is set up right with storage pockets built into the side and removable tray. Also I like that these have a rubber gasket around the inside of the lid for keeping the water out. Ive had lot of boxes like this and the new style material keeps them from rusting inside or outside and is large enough to put most anything inside. Also check out Kaizen Foam inserts for these. I used some in my DS130 ToughSystem case for my drills. Perfect combo!! Drills arent sliding all over getting beat up etc and the foam wasnt expensive and was easier than I thought to cut. Just google it and Kaizen has their own website. They start like $7. Anyways...... Great product and a must have for guys having to walk to and from their work station or vehicle carrying stuff!! Everything clicks together and comes apart just as fast!! Whoever came up with the latest Dewalt stuff has really stepped that company up a lot from years past!!
