Looks Decent, Absolute Junk (Needs Modifications!)
I was upgrading all of the flush-mount lights in my house, and purchased four of the Elk Clayton fixtures because of their modern yet simple appearance, as well as the bronze metal and glass construction. Yes, they look decent once I got them installed, but doing so was an absolute NIGHTMARE. The Elk Clayton fixtures are poorly designed, and quality control is non-existent, as the bronze exterior cover is significantly larger than the white ceiling mount it hangs on, which results in 1) the screw holes in the bronze cover not lining up with the holes in the ceiling mount, 2) the bronze drum does not mount entirely flush against the ceiling resulting in the white ceiling mount showing through in certain spots, and 3) the bronze cover bends when the nuts are tightened, resulting in light escaping all around the top of the light onto the ceiling. The light spilling onto the ceiling was a deal-breaker as it made the light look defective, cheap, and entirely unprofessional. I ended up using rubber weather-stripping around the inside circumference of the bronze cover (about 1" from the top) to create a seal between the cover and mount, as well as weather stripping around half of the circumference of the white ceiling mount to ensure the bronze cover fit tightly against the ceiling mount (I spent a total of $30 on weather stripping). Also, every "bronze" cover had imperfections in the paint, and the glass is very loose in the bottom of the bronze cover and WILL flap around (the tiny metal flaps they put in are entirely insufficient to hold it in place). Lastly, there's no question these can be installed with any less than two people, and the word-less one-page installation diagram from the factory is worthless. I'm already praying I never have to change the LED bulbs I installed. Considering the cost of these lights and how much time and effort I put into getting them installed, I highly recommend staying away, and would probably recommend the same for all Elk Lighting products. PS: Made in China.
