DAP’s customer service is horrible

I purchased this but had for more than 90 days so had to deal with DAP directly on my issue. I spoke to someone who never got back to following me sending him pictures and examples of the issue.

Garbage product

Tried the Gloss White in a new shower. spread like cottage cheese as others have noted. complete garbage. after reading the negatives, they all seem to have a consistent issue with spreadability. Dap seems to give the same "old stock" answer. If old sealed stock is bad after X amount of time, how is a consumer supposed to trust that it will last the test of time if we can't even get to use it. Mine (2) was from a freshly opened box. both have same codes, but NO WAY amI willing to try the 2nd tube if the 1st was bad. BTW Dap... the code on both of my tubes say 823330 12:48. Applied to NEW cleaned tub corners.

Inconsistent stickiness

I bought this product, having a good experience with this brand several years ago. I finished the shower/tub caulking last night and while applying it with a caulking gun, sometimes the caulk came out well and stayed in the applied area, a few times it didn't. Then used tool then had to go to my finger to smooth out/fill, and in some areas the caulk came back out and left gaping holes in the seam. after 7 hours, checked on it and still had some areas that were quite wet and the caulk came out of more areas. Patched the holes and am still within the 24 hour cure period. The work looks ok now (why 2 star rating) but we will see once it fully dries and time passes. Crossing fingers won't have to remove and recaulk in the near future. 🤞

Exactly what I needed. I borrowed a friend’s caulking gun, and once I figured out a good size for the hole, it worked very well. Pro-tip, cut the tube tip at a bit of an angle. I was able to make a very small, even bead, and it applied clean and cured quickly. No strong smells, either.

Not exactly what the product claims to be after I used it and gave it a week to fully cure. According to the manufacture's customer service the product is actually a latex-acrylic caulk and will not fully cure if silicone caulk has been used previously on the surface, not matter how well cleaned of silicone, due to an invisible film silicon caulk leaves behind. I removed this caulk complete and replaced it with the same brand of 100% silicone kitchen and bath caulk. So far no problems

I like DAP products, but NOT this one

I have had my own home improvement business since 2009. I have had only one caulk failure, possible due to some chemicals not fully removed. Since using the Ultra, I have had: 2 showers fail, 2 toilets, and 1countertop. After the first failure, I contacted DAP. They told me there must have been silicone residue. A year or so later, I tried it again, and it failed. DAP again told me the same thing. Now, on my new toilet, seated on new tile, it has failed! NEVER again!

Useless

Cleaned and prepped my shower to recaulk it. Put a line of this down and after about a foot the line of caulk just drug along with my caulk gun. Cleaned it up, tried again. Came back several hours later, noticed there was a gap between the caulk and the shower wall. Peeled the line of caulk right up. It didn’t even stick. Trash product.

This product came out lumpy. It was difficult to apply in a smooth fashion. I ended up having to remove what I let dry between the bath tub and shower surround that I installed. I have purchased similar products to this. This was not fun to work with. I redid the caulk that I removed with a 100% silicone based product. Maybe it was a bad batch from the factory, I don't know. Both of the tubes I used were of the same quality -POOR! I bought eight tubes. Six went back to the store. At $9 a tube, I expected a superior product.

The most garbage of garbage

I've seen a lotta caulk in my day. This is the worst. I bought white, and it dried clear! Ruined my job. It came out in chunks, smeared everywhere, didn't stick well, and dried CLEAR. This meant I had to redo it all, on what was otherwise a perfect bathroom. This caulk failed at its most basic task.

Like all other silicone products, it is messy to work with. Problem with this product the outer layer still remains tacky, well after the indicated dry time. Also had some holding time issues, the silicone in place parts were taped down as instructed but I could not remove the tape due to product not dry enough the tape was removed the next day well after the indicated drying time. Hours after the product was placed I could not touch the product with metallic objects because it would stick to them. example the tip of measuring tape, level or squaring tool. Overall the customer was happy with the finished work after the product completely dried to a nice glossy finish.

Caution from Pacific Northwest

I applied this per instruction on a bathtub. After 24 hours it seemed to have initially cured. But a week later, to my surprise, the product began cracking, and turned to mud upon touch.

DAP Kwik Seal

I have mixed feelings on this product. It is a good product but it will come off when you apply it if you aren’t careful. Its not bad if you know this ahead of time.

I have used this several times on the same tub/shower. It goes on easy and is easy to work with. My only issue is that it is supposed to suppress mold and other discoloring. I fear that nothing can beat the eventual mold deposits. This is my third application over several years and each time it eventually gets black and orange "mold" that is impossible to remove. I have tried every product recommended for cleaning and several others. I can get 95% off but not the rest without damaging it. I fear that there is nothing inherently wrong with the product just that mold suppression is impossible. My latest "strategery" is to take my towel after showering, pick a couple of dry spots on the towel and wipe the tub/tile seam a couple of times. It only takes about 10 seconds and you are left with no water to feed the mold. Not sure if this will work but it seems to make sense to me.

Used this on the shower between the tile walls and acrylic floor . VERY impressed so far. I had the squeeze tubes which are a bit easier to apply than the caulking gun. ( more expensive but it's a small job with less waist ). I kneaded the tubes a bit and made sure they were room temperature before applying. Went on white as stated and slowly faded to clear over a 3 day period. Wall tiles are dark blue and now you can't even see the caulk. It fingers on easy and a second layer will adhere once the first line dries sufficiently.

Poor adhesion, shrinks during cure

I have tried two different tubes of this stuff purchased at different times and have had the same poor performance described in those negative reviews. I am re-caulking a vicrel shower surround which was previously done with another brand silicon caulk. The old caulk (GE?) needs a razor blade to remove - very well adhered. The Dap Ultra will not stick at all to freshly razored surfaces that still have a slight haze of this old caulk. A strong breeze could knock it off. Worse than this, it also does not stick to parts of the surround that have never seen caulk and have been scrubbed with alcohol. Beads on these areas also peel off with very little effort, leaving no pieces behind. If that were not enough, it also shrinks 30-50% resulting in a sunken-in look, requiring another layer.
