It is poor design. It is left handed door

Most of locks are changeable, reversible from left to right handed door. This is for left handed doors only. Home Depot does not have same type of lock for right handed door. If you install on right H door the lock will upside down or key will turn left to lock which is wrong.

Seems to be a good quality dead bolt lock.

So far so good. the lock are sturdy and looks nice. we have the locks on 2 of our doors. I like the fact that these locks are hard to pick! I don't think anyone will ever try kicking the door in because of the noise it would make. more likely one would to try to pick the lock.

Good construction & good operating feedback

The installation manual was easy to understand. The operating feeling of the interior knob and the exterior key cylinder are both smooth and positive.

Packaging Doesn't Give Complete Information

I purchased four of these deadbolts because of the smart key feature and three of the installations went well. However, when I got to the fourth, I found that I needed a latch with a drive in collar. The box says nothing about what type of latch is in the box (and Home Depot doesn't provide the information on the website either) so I had to leave the existing latch (fortunately another kwikset product). When I called Kwikset, I was asked to read a tiny number from the barcode on the bottom of the package which supposedly revealed that the box contained the latch with faceplate. I was then told that you have to purchase the drive in latch separately!! When I expressed my concern about the product not containing information that would allow the average person to select the right product, I was given a 'one time' exception and they will send me the part. Kwikset needs to do a much better job with the packaging so it is clear to the consumer and they can purchase the correct product, and Home Depot should add this information to its description so this doesn't happen to others. Other than that, I successfully rekeyed nine locks that were all keyed differently.

[Rewarded Review] Great lock, unless you need a drive-in latch

The Kwikset SmartKey technology is fantastic! We have it on all of our entrance doors, and I highly recommend them. However, if the door that you want to install this on requires a latch with a drive-in collar and you buy this lock, you're entering a world of hurt. The lock ONLY comes with a rectangular faceplate (despite the fact that the instructions also include how to deal with a drive-in collar). I called Kwikset, and they said I had to buy a collar for $1.50. $1.50 and 5 days later, I got the collar - which doesn't work! It not only doesn't fit, but there's no practical way to remove the rectangular faceplate (short of doing major damage) The ONLY solution I could find was to buy a Kwickset drive-in latch, part number 83371-01, which is only available from Amazon for about 16 bucks! Not Lowes, not Home Depot, not Mendards, not even Kwickset! Why did I order it? Because I want to have all of my locks keyed the same and everything else is Kwickset Smart-Key. If not for that, I would NEVER buy Kwickset again. I only gave it a generous 2-star rating for the Smart-key technology.
