God awful
Installing it was impossible. Getting the screws to line up while installing the bottom lock was impossible. When I finally got them to (mostly) line up I then couldn’t even get them open with the key or move the latch.
Not a good choice
I bought this for the rekey convenience. Replaced 20 year old Schlage. I should have stuck with Schlage. At least they worked on a left hand door. Yes I know about the tool to reverse the lock on this brand. I tried it and it does not work. I regret buying Kwikset but now stuck with it after spending 65 dollars.
Not the best, but not the worst!
When it comes to my preferred lock brands, kwikset is simply not on the top of my list. I think that there are better locks, but at the same time those are more expensive so if you don’t have a lot of money, these are still not a bad option. The two pack is a nice deal, and if you currently have KW1 keys, this is a far better option than some of the other offerings from this brand and a few of the others.
Can't flip knob lock!
Preposterous. You are absolutely unable to flip the door knob lock when your door is a left hand inswing. Kwiksets instructions say "it's ok" for it to be upside down. IT TOTALLY IS NOT! The last thing I want to do 2x daily is flip my key 180deg to lock and unlock bolt and knob. All my other door sets allow the knob lock to be flipped, but this set....... Ugh. Went right back to Lowe's. Also, the quality of the material has a cheap feel to it.
We have had Kwikset for 30 years and been very satisfied. Quality of workmanship of this new set was poor in comparison. Screw holes between the exterior shell and the interior frame did not align. Mounting was impossible. Exterior diameters were inconsistent. I returned the product the same day.
Missing parts
My package appeared intact however parts were missing. Was suppose to come with two deadbolts in the combo pack but i was missing a deadbolt and instead got three doorknob latches. One looked old and covered in oil. I had to reuse old parts of the lock i was replacing because i needed this done today and quickly. Unreliable quality control.
Overall, we are happy with Kwikset, but this purchase had challenges. We had hoped to change 4 sets of deadbolts and cylinders, so we bought 2 combo packs. One of the deadbolts was defective and the screw would not screw in, so we had to return one of the combo packs. This was the first time we experienced a defective product, so it was very inconvenient, but not enough of a problem to not purchase again.
This product has been around forever (except without the re-keying function) and has always been very reliable. It replaced an older version I had for about 20 years that simply got worn out over time and left fine metal particles in the door cut-out. This is a common problem with old door locks. I suppose lubricating it occasionally would've prevented it but similar to draining your water heater every year to prevent rust... it just ain't gonna happen! Since it was virtually identical to the old one, the swap-out took less than 15 minutes to complete. The replacement works great and I'm probably good for another 20 years!
I have been using these lock sets for over 30 years. I will have to maybe go for the high end version next time. I bought 4 sets and all of the handle locks get stuck when u turn them. This causes them not to latch close. U have to back turn them to male sure they latch. Other than that. I feel they are a good set for rental property's.
Failed dangerously, could not open unlocked door.
The latch was installed on a new door, that opened and closed very smoothly, still it somehow failed and would not open when unlocked, even with the knobs taken off, it wouldn't budge. I had to cut it out. I'm glad I didn't have a fire or emergency, because I would have been stuck in or out of my house. Now I got this as a keyed alike set, and given how dangerous and time consuming this is to get out, I'm never buying Kwickset again. Given that I do a lot of building maintenance, that's going to cost them a lot of sales.
Very sleek and showy door locks.
They look very nice once installed. My biggest problem was getting them out of the plastic case they were sealed in. Very tough plastic and hard to cut trying not to toss all the pieces together. But once I did, They went on fairly easily and work fine. They replaced the same brand from 24 years ago that were very scuzzy looking from the years and weather. Looks great now. I would have liked to get a package of 4 with the same keying though as I have 4 exterior doors.
Kwikset, like many traditional hardware items; the once high level of quality you could depend on, has slipped into mediocrity. Do they “work”? The answer is yes, they work ok. However the tumblers and key operation is rough, sticky, not as smooth and positive as they once were.
Super package for a new home
I bought these as a simple way to change the locks in my new home, and I love how all 4 locks are keyed the same! It comes with 4 keys, so immediately I’ve got the extras I need for family. Installation was easy, just needed a phillips screw driver. The tricky part is getting the strike plate installed on the door frame so that it lines up exactly with the deadbolt. I found that putting a strip of painters tape across the hole in the door frame, then closing the door and gently pushing against the tape by activating the deadbolt (not all the way), makes a crease in the tape that serves as a placement guide for the door strike. For almost less than the price of having keys duplicated, I have new locks and door knobs on my home, and can be assured that any neighbors or previous residents with keys to the old house no longer have access!
Horrible and Unreliable.
I bought this to add to my new door that was installed 6 months ago. I am an experienced homeowner and well versed in the trades. Since installment the inside knob has fell off 3 times. Both the inside and outside knob are very weak and there is ALOT of wobble to them. Worst door knob I have ever bought, every-time we open our door we take a gamble on if this thing is going to fall apart. Every time we lock it who knows if someone will just rip it off. Horrible and unreliable product- total waste of money.

So far so good. I had help getting these placed, fairly easy. The lever handle of the original Kwikset lock set installed had pulled off the front door so had to be replaced. Wanting to keep the same keys, (deadbolt included) I was happy to find a combo set for 2 doors, though 3 doors would have completed it. I decided to purchase the round knobs, still getting used to this type, verses the slimmer handle type I had. It’s more of a full palm size grab. The key inserts and pulling back out is a bit rough though, requiring a bit of jiggle. Hopefully this will smooth out with given time. I rated this a 4 star for now for the details I gave.
New doorknob failed after less than a dozen uses.
I bought the Kwikset set pictured. Installed on front and rear door of house. Discovered that one knob, though it worked for a few days, was defective and would not subsequently lock. Cannot return unit because I bought a full set and don't feel like removing them all and returning them to Lowe's, then installing the replacements and perhaps having another defective component. So now I have a properly working knob and dead bolt on my front door, but am resigned to having only the deadbolt working to secure my back door. If you buy this package, open it in the parking lot and check out ALL FOUR components MULTIPLE TIMES, before you drive home and install them. Now I'm wondering how long the other components will last before they begin to fail.
Great, except for the packaging.
I give these locks a five star rating but the packaging is horrible! The blister packs may look cool to some advertising cubical dwellers, but they not only waste a huge amount of space and generate an excessive amount of waste that we the consumers must pay for, they're an extreme pain to open without damaging the contents or slinging pieces all over the place. Why can't we continue to use the original cardboard packs which are compact while being economically and environmentally friendly? I've been in the building trades for forty years now and apparently the complaints about over-packaging and excessive waste are still falling on deaf ears! It's time companies start paying attention to the feedback from us contractors and consumers instead of cubical dwellers who don't even know what most of the product are, let alone what it takes to inventory, transport and install them! - MarkKw

I just installed these this morning I purchased 2 and I am going to get another when they are available again. They are very easy to install by your self, the handle you actually don't have to line up the screw to meet the outside handle, it is actually one of the easiest sets I have installed. To door closes very smooth, I got these to replace a brinks brand, which never closed easily. This are preconfigured to be mounted on a left hung in-swing door, if you are mounting on a right hung in-swing door you will either have the key slot on the handle upside down or just have to pop the cylinder out and rotate it and it will look correct, there are plenty of videos on how to do this. That being said I was prepared to do this on one of my doors and actually order the tool that is not necessarily but makes it easier only to find out one of the 2 sets was actually accidentally rotated from the factory. Rekeying the locks is very simple, honestly if you are capable of unlocking a door with a key you are capable at rekeying these locks. The kit comes keyed alike but if you are replacing more then one you will want to rekey at least one set. Each kit comes with a pair of keys for each lock, so a total of 4 keys. And finally the color in the picture is not exact, it is not as dark as the picture, honestly the picture of the deadbolt is very accurate but the handle is too dark in the picture, but if you already have this style and color in your house it is going to be a perfect match.
Absolute garbage
I had purchased the gatehouse series that Lowe's used to carry, and after my renters moved out, I wanted to replace the locks. I couldn't find any of the Gatehouse, and none of the Kwikset series was brushed nickel at the store. The knobs looked smaller and more government building than home decor. I took it home and was struck by how the deadbolt lock metal looks cheap. In trying to install the doorknob, the spindle from the locking knob that fits into the lock knob on the inside was made of plastic, and the holes for the screws didn't line up. I got frustrated and ran to the rival hardware store and though they carried Kwikset as well, they had Defiant knobs that looked a lot like the gatehouse. Better construction than the Kwikset that led to super quick installation. I think Lowe's buyers need to take a hard look at the quality of Kwikset and go back to either Gatehouse or Defiant. Defiant was also $10 cheaper!!!!
Upside-down keyhole, otherwise great product!
After installing both knob and deadlock, the knob keyhole was upside down which proved very unappealing and it took exta time to gain entry to my home having to turn the key first right side up for the deadlock then upside-down for the knob. I quickly decided this was unacceptable. I could not change the direction of the keyhole, however, I turned to their website and they offer a free tool so I could do it myself. It came within a week or less I think. The overall product itself works fantastic, had everything I needed for different types installs even. But it would be nice if a package that comes with both knob and deadlock to have same direction keyholes at least. I was very impatient, so I actually ended up going back to the store where I bought it, to see if they had any sets where the keyholes were both upright. After about the 10th one I looked at, I did find one. So they let me exchange it. But i was still excited when I got the little tool to use on future installs.
