Biden ruined it
First off, no matter what temperature you previously had it set at, it always comes back on at 70° when you turn it on the next time, which for me makes the Wi-Fi schedule pointless. Additionally to "save power" there is no fan on full time mode. Someone else said this and I totally agree when it turns completely off at night and then back on it wakes you up. Had to buy a separate noise machine. What has this country come to....
Unrepairable, broke just out of warranty
Very noisy, but worked alright for just over a year, used it very lightly only a few times during heat waves. It broke a few months after the the warranty was expired, just before our latest spell of hot weather. It started shutting down the compressor every 10-15 minutes while making a whining noise. A day or two later it stopped outputting cold air entirely.
Garbage.
This thing is essentially unusable unless you want to sit in front of it all day and babysit it. The internal temperature sensor is complete garbage. It will read 94 one minute and 76 the next. It’s literally never accurate so you can’t control when the unit turns itself off an on with the thermostat. Also, you can’t set it higher than 86, so if the sensor is reading higher than that but you’re already at your actual desired temperature, it won’t shut off. Don’t wast your money.
[Rewarded Review] Avoid LG and this A/C
I purchased this model after owning 3 other LG A/C units. While this one can cool, it will not shutoff at the set temperature. I contacted LG and told to reset it by unplugging it while it was running. They said to wait a few weeks then let them know if there were still problems. It continued to run well past the set temperature despite constant resets. I called LG back and was informed that this model does not have an 'energy saver' mode. I was told it will never shut off when it reaches the set temperature. The temperature on the panel is only there to tell it when to turn on. In my case, it was set to 72, and would run when the room was down to 64 or below.
Easy set up in one of the LR windows. ...
Easy set up in one of the LR windows. The vent hose detached from the diffuser after a couple of days. I used white duct tape to keep it secure and so far (about 1 month) no issues. The unit lets out a certain amount of heat; for this reason, the thermometer never gets to the target temp and the unit runs continuously. I do appreciate that it is WiFi enabled; I use this feature daily to control the A/C. Noise level: on low it is fine; on high it is louder but not oppressively loud (I do live in NYC so I am accustomed to higher levels of noise). I have not used the Fan or Dry features. I regret not purchasing the 12K BTUs as the 10K takes a bit longer than expected to cool down my approx 440 sq.ft space (but I do have 9.5 ft ceilings).
Loud and Ineffective
I bought this AC during a heat wave this summer hoping to cool the house a little. It sort of worked for a few days, but even though I was only cooling a 400 sq ft area, the AC couldn't keep up with our high vaulted ceilings and open floor plan. I even tried closing all of our doors but it had no effect. It was also bigger and much louder than I was expecting. For example, we couldn't hear the TV when it was running in the other room. Also, while it's sold as "portable" the window adapter is assembled with screws. Unless all of your windows are the same size, you probably won't be moving it from one window to another as you would have to take the adapter apart and rebuild it for the new window. For some reason the performance also seemed to diminish over a couple days, even though I verified it was not icing over. In the end I chose to return the portable AC and installed a Mr Cool mini-split instead.
Defective unit and poor customer service
My son purchased this unit for our spare upstairs bedroom and did not come to hook it up for almost a month. When it was installed it is very loud when the compressor comes on and has a metal banging sound intermittengly even when the compressor is not running. It makes too much noise to sleep in the same room with it. The customer service person at the Lowes in Rosenberg TX said that it could not be returned or exchanged because it was over 30 days. It was charged to my credit card on 06/08/2020 and today is 07/08/2020. I don't live in Rosenberg but had a Doctors appointment today. It has only been used twice and I still have all the shipping material. But sorry. Do not buy it the unit will cut off when it reaches the desired temperature and when it comes back on will wake you up it is loud.
Hidden Features
When I found that this unit has a auto off feature I decided that other people need to know about this. It is not stated anywhere I've found. That when the set temperature is reached. The unit will stop circulating air or in other words being on. I have yet to be informed of how to disable this feature. That feature isn't on a same capacity model I purchased back in 2016. What also isn't obvious but can be read about in the manual is that. While the unit is cooling it is also in dehumidifier mode. So a drain from the mid height port in the back of the unit is needed. I use a 5 gallon bucket with a hole cut into the side. With a hand towel rubber banded over the end in the bucket. So as not to be disturbed by the little tinkle sounds when the ac drains through out operations. I had found when using another smaller output model of LG's and under the conditions in a particular room. That this smaller model would frequently cycle between active cooling and not. Just circulating air. At a set interval. Noticing this I purchased the bigger model. This model here will run and cool whether it reaches its set temperature or not. Without the off and on again. Yet the first draw back mentioned above should make me return it and find a different brand. Yet I had to modify the hard plastic window panel to fit in a small length placement and thus can not.
