Wicked Tub!

This tub arrived in perfect condition after being shipped to an island in Maine using various means of transport. Bottom line is they did a good job packing it and Build.com was great on the service end. Thanks

Perfect shape and depth, but irregular enamel

We chose this tub because we like the stability of cast iron, it is made for a three-sided alcove, and it has the look we wanted for our bathroom renovation. The slip-resistant bottom is great. The ledge on the backside is too narrow to rest a bottle or bar of soap on while bathing, but the ledge on the front is wide enough to set something on, which is ok. Other reviewers have mentioned the orange peel appearance of the enamel. How bad could that be? Well, I'll tell you...it's awful! The whole tub, inside and out, covered in irregular finish, with long drips off the edge and so lightly applied you can see the black of the cast iron showing through. It's going to take after-market enamel repair/re-coating to make the tub look smooth. Buyer beware. Maybe the Kohler marketing team could re-imagine this tub as having a "jewel-like finish with artisan touches which may vary by item." Give it a think before you buy this tub.

Poor Quality Control from Kohler and Build.com

I received my Kohler Mendota tub through build.com. The bathtub was received on a rebuilt palet and the wooden frame was bowing, no outside packaging. Not only could Kohler quality control see the defects but also build.com warehouse. Once I cleaned off the dust, it had 2 visible defects not including the wavy, orange peel texture which I had read about in previous reviews. There was a visible bump near where you would sit in the tub and dirt or debris was embedded in a section of the enamel. I was not interested in ordering a replacement and having to wait another week to receive a replacement bathtub and wait 3-5 days for another email so build.com could freight pick up the 370 lb tub if it also had multiple defects. I would expect better quality control for $1,300.

Great tub

Just as advertised, very happy. The finish is typical for cast iron, beautiful and no flaws. The lip around the edge is small, making it slightly harder for diy-ers but we were able to do it with a great result. Highly recommend.

Height

Just the right height. Deep and roomy for a soak...but not too high to step into. We love it.

Great purchase.

Everything was great with this tub. The tub came in with no flaws. The people at Home Depot helped load it by putting it on a flatbed cart, and wheeled it up our trailer ramp. To unload it, we put a thick piece of cardboard on the front of the tub, and then strapped two square furniture dollies to the side. We tipped it on its side and rolled it into the house and first floor bathroom. Luckily there were no stairs involved. Three average sized guys were able to get it off of the furniture dollies, get the crate off, and tip and slide it into place.

Hi Quality

We have other Kohler products in our home and as usual the K-505 tub has the high quality we expect from Kohler.

Like many others, I am unhappy with the appearance of the tub. I have another Kohler enameled cast iron product in my house and that is why I was willing to pay the money for this tub. However, the dimpling of the side walls is VERY visible even when you are looking straight at it. If you order one I would highly recommend that you be prepared ahead of time that you may need to return it. I was hesitant based on the reviews, but again based on my past experience I decided to roll the dice and now I regret it.

Installation

Very heavy, but we’ll worth the effort to install. Make sure drain hole is not over a joist, otherwise you must make a cut out in joist from ceiling below

K-505 Tub

Ledges are way too narrow to rest foot on when soaping up.

Enamel Peeling

If I could give less than one star, I would give it zero. The tub was just installed by our builder and the enamel is peeling. Both Build.com and the Kohler Company are not interested in helping rectify the situation. $1,200.00 junk. I guess I'll use it as a planter.

Best tub ever! Durable, large and deep. Feels luxurious

Remove your fiberglass or acrylic tub and replace it with this tub if you want long lasting luxury. Since the tub weighs 350lb the best way to install is to send the tub to the store and hire a professional moving company that specializes in this to haul it from the store and into your bathroom.

I had done a great deal of research and knew that this was the tub I wanted/needed for my bathroom remodel. I was pleased with the fact that it arrived within a week - especially since I had originally ordered from a different supplier and it had simply disappeared. There was a record of it leaving a warehouse in Georgia, then nothing. This loss added two weeks to my remodel timeline. It was at the point that nothing else could be accomplished until we had a tub.
