This is a fine design item and looks great in my kitchen. We all love using it and it does a great job. After three years, when it was out of warranty, my previous kettle developed a leak and Smeg immediately replaced it, even though they didn't have to. I'm impressed. The replacement kettle is still going strong

Unfortunate design flaw lasted less than a year

I loved the way the tea kettle looked was excited to get such a beautiful kettle. I purchased two one for a vacation home and one for the main home. Unfortunately the main home kettle completely stopped working after 8 months of use. The second kettle stopped working 6 months after use and it barely was used as much as the other. There’s a definite design flaw in the connection to the base heating element. I did purchase these a few years ago so I hope they have worked this problem out but for the price it’s hard to justify such poor quality. The toaster I purchased from them is excellent though and yes I bought two both are holding up well.

Counter Eyecandy

I love this kettle, chosen for the design and had minimal plastic. It does what it is supposed to do-boil water rapidly and it's in use several times a day.

UPDATE - June 2024 - Still love the look of this Kettle HOWEVER the base is a HUGE LETDOWN. It is very light weight and while the cord does wrap around it there no ability to hold the cord underneath. I only require a minimum of cord and while the rest is under the kettle it falls onto the counter and is clearly visible. I have tried duck tape (does not last) and a small wedge (falls out). Poor Engineering for an expensive kettle. Original Review- January 2024- Beautiful Kettle. Good value as it was on Sale. Complements the red accents in my kitchen including the Passion Red Kitchenaid Range. Just received yesterday with ultra fast delivery so far boils faster than my gas stove. Only potential issue will be the base which is VERY light weight plastic with a silver finish- a big disappointment. Will update this review if the base fails to wear well or scratches or

Cheap

Cheaply made!! Won as office gift . Out of set I would say this is worst . Looked inside after using a month and all furry inside with spots . Feels cheep handle plastic. Breville is cheaper and really made well. Why? Disappointed in this and entire set aside from grinder .

Extremely disappointed with the Smeg Electric Kettle. The product is great aesthetically with its fun, retro design. Unfortunately, as many of the other reviews highlight, the device produces a strong burning plastic smell (likely due to so much plastic used in manufacturing). Directions suggest running it 3x before using to eliminate this smell, but it never went away. There are also large Prop 65 warnings all over the side of the box it comes in. Leading one to be very skeptical of the safety of this product (which is used at high temperatures).

Disapointed

I needed to return this electric kettle as soon as I received it. There were two issues. One had to do with the kettle itself, the other had to do with bed bath and beyond. What I didn't like about the kettle was that there was an area made out of plastic that the boiling water would be exposed to it was poured. Looking it up online I found information saying it's BPA free but there are so many other chemicals and plastic that could be dangerous if leaked. For such an expensive kettle I'm not sure why they couldn't just use stainless in that small area. The issue I had with the actual purchase was that I purchased a brand item at this price. When it arrived I noticed that it looked like it may have been a customer return. Then I found another customer's purchase order along with mine in the box. If this has been sold as an open box product that would have been acceptable but it was sold as a brand new product at list price.

Too heavy

I’ve always wanted one of these to match my oven so when I got some birthday money this is what I spent it on. What a letdown. When full it was far too heavy to lift comfortably, and I work out at the gym three times a week. It wouldn’t sit straight on the base, it took almost five minutes to boil from cold, and it was incredibly noisy. We go through kettles like something not right so my thinking was “buy expensive, buy once!” - but this was just not good enough. To crown it all, tea tasted downright weird even having boiled and emptied several times. It cost £15 to return it with proof of delivery (my fault, should have used Evri) so this was an expensive mistake. It’s beautiful to look at, hence the two stars, but the phrase “fur coat no knickers” springs to mind.

50'style look but it's all modern tech

I love the look of this kettle. It's like Italian made art on my counter, very eye-catching. Makes my counter look clean & sleek. Easy to fill, button top automatically raises lid, all the features you need, reliable boil temperature every time, identical blue lit on-switch like the toaster. Sturdy handle for pouring, no drips, seems better insulated, not steaming up my kitchen and I like I don't have to struggle awkwardly when it's full putting it back on the base in a specific direction, it swivels, so easy. Quality and design top-notch. Canadian Tire only sells cream colour, but it's very stylish. Get it on sale and activate & stack those Triangle offers to save more!

Brilliant addition to my kitchen

I’m really happy I bought this kettle from appliances online, it makes a big difference to the taste of my herbal teas now they can be steeped at lower temperatures, and I like the fact that the sound effects can be turned off easily and back on, dependent on if the rest of my young household is up or not. Easily toggle between ideal coffee, black tea and herbal tea temperatures. The kettle also has the keep warm function which is ideal for when my wider family comes around for smokos and I'm doing other things around the house. It's a much quieter boil than my previous Breville kettle.

the listing says: "This product with stainless steel powder-coated body. It includes a removable stainless steel limescale filter, and auto shut‐off when water is not detected." This is false advertizing. The whole outside is plastic. I don't see any stainless steel powder-coated body whatsoever. The inside might be stainless, although there is plastic, plastic everywhere! I don't know if this is the real thing or a knockoff. For the high price, I had relied on the summary. When you look down at the specs, its says plastic. ugh.

Do not waste your money.

Buy something else. Yes, I know. They are pretty and look great great in a kitchen. But be prepared to buy another kettle in 2-3 years because it won’t last. Horrible quality. Just horrible. Buying Smeg’s small appliances was a horrible mistake. I wonder which one is going to stop working next. I have had this not quite 4 years and only use it on the weekends. Now I have a very pretty, very expensive, very useless kettle on my kitchen counter. William Sonoma, you need to stop selling Smeg until they do better.

Stopped Working after 2 years

It looks pretty in my white marble kitchen — but that’s it. I used it maybe two times a month, and one day the base just stopped turning on. It isn’t the outlet. It is the base. This was a stupidly expensive product the I bought for the aesthetics. So disappointed. …. Also, the water-level opening to check how much water is inside is NOT easy to read. It is hidden under the handle & hardly visible. Kettle itself is heavy, with more water inside it is heavier and because of spillage can’t be tilted to try to read level. Almost never able to see accurate water line.

This is a delayed review. I have this kettle for just over 4 months. PROS: It quickly boils water. I am not a tea snob, so i am not picky about the specific temperature. It does its job (which is to heat water for my tea/hot chocolate/instant coffee/cup of noodles etc.) I love the color that i got, which is an orangey-red. This adds a nice touch of color to my gray-white kitchen. CONS: Cleaning is challenging if you have large hands. I started noticing limescale deposits in the bottom after a month and a half of regular (3-4 times a week) use. Otherwise, a good buy, preferable to using the microwave to heat up water

I just can't turn him on anymore :o(

We've been together for 3 years. I thought everything was fine, but one morning he was cold to me. Now, he only gets turned on in a certain position (which I am not comfortable with.) I thought he was going to be different from other kettles I've been with. He looked so dreamy with his big bold lines. Turns out I should have stuck with my old Breville.

Quick and quiet

As an English person I consume copious amounts of tea daily. I previously had a ceramic kettle that looked pretty but you could probably hear it from next door! It also stopped working before I’d had it a year. Hence my willingness to invest in this rather expensive option. It looks nice in my white kitchen, boils very quickly, and while of course not silent, it’s not obtrusively noisy. I like the temperature control for different varietals of tea, and the water gauge tells you how full it is without having to open the lid and peer inside. The soft pour spout does indeed prevent spattering yourself with boiling hot water. Yes, the chimes are mildly annoying, but you can press turn the temperature button for 5 seconds and it turns the sounds off completely - problem solved! I can’t attest to its longevity having only been using it for a week, but at this price I hope it will last.

Don’t buy it !

My family loves hot tea. We saw the SMEG Kettle at William Sonoma. We like the idea of using a electric kettle and liked the SMEG style, The trouble started two months after purchase. The lid button became stuck. . Had to use a knife to open it. Then the handle cracking . I read the reviews. I thought it wouldn’t happen to me. I was wrong. I think SMEG should do the right thing and have a product recall. William Sonoma is one of the biggest product sellers. Stop selling there products. They need to look in to the way the product is manufactured. The Kettle worked great for awhile. The style is what sold us. My advice Don’t buy it.
