I wanted a fairly deep tub but didn't want to pay $1,500.00 +. Also didn't want fiberglass or acrylic as most reviews note cracks after a while. This porcelain steel tub works for us. It's not quite as deep as I had hoped, but it's deeper than our old one, and looks great in our remodel. Good price too.

New Solar American Standard Bathtub

Very nice tub. Very nice porcelain finish. With that said, the first one arrived with some damage to the tub apron. Build support were very good and shipped a replacement out within a couple of days. That one arrived in pristine condition. Consider protecting tub by way of a series of hand towels taped to the edge of the tub all around and make sure to cut out the tub box lid and put into tub base. Be wary of contractor...."oh it'll be ok, I never drop anything". An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Easy to install and compliments the remodel!

Through many searches, we decided on the American Standard New Solar tub for our newly remodeled MB. We are not disappointed with our decision! It was easy to install and cleaning is a cinch! We complemented it with a satin Nickle drain and overflow plate and it really looks great. Very happy after 3+ months of use.

This is a nice deep tub. We purchased it for our children’s bathroom, and have been happy with it. It’s really easy to clean as well. My only note is that the tub drain they recommend on here doesn’t work with this tub. Our plumber purchased one separately, and we had to return the product and lost out on the shipping fee, which was annoying.

Poorly made

The tub chipped less than a week after we installed it when a plastic towel bar fell on the edge. It should NOT chip so easily.

Classic looking tub. Chipped pretty quickly and easily after install. They sent the repair kit quickly, but we were bummed that it chipped that easily. Otherwise this tub works well and fits the style we were looking for

I needed to have it re glazed. Cost me $500 bucks. It was not as white as I expected. It hade a yellowish tint compared to the white wall tiles I'll be putting up.

PRO's: I like the fact that this arrived at my door so I did not have to rent a truck to pick it up locally. It is light and easy to move into the house. I like the nonslip floor of this tub that is a great feature so you do not have to use a tub mat. It does keep the water warmer than my old tub did. CON's: When sitting in the tub there is a lip in that back that is uncomfortable for me. I haven't used it with a tub pillow yet and hope that helps. This is wider then the old 1965 Cast Iron tub I replaced but It sold as a soaking tub and it is not much deeper than my old tub. I should have measured and looked around more before purchasing my fault but I do not think this should be sold as a soaking tub.

This was a very nice tub with a sturdy foam filler at the bottom. Unfortunately, the edge was chipped and bent. We were unable to use it.

Just what I wanted

I looked specifically for a deep, wider than most, soaking tub. The American Standard "New Solar" delivered. The overfill drain is high enough for soaks, and the width works well with our bowed shower curtain.

Specs are clear and consistent

The specs clearly star tub depth is 9.5 inches and the total depth is 13.25 inches.

Is what it says - ADA compliant tub.

I’m confused by some of the reviews which really badmouthed this tub’s rating and seems unfair. I don’t see anywhere that this tub says it is a “soaker”. Because it is ADA compliant, it wouldn’t make sense for it to be a soaker- too hard to get in if it was. I have looked at this one several times, never seen it say soaker. I don’t want a soaker. It does say the model name “Solar” but surely folks wouldn’t confuse that with soaker. This isn’t a fancy tub - just a enameled type steel tub. I was looking for a enameled cast iron like the old ones, but don’t think this is it. However, it shouldn’t be knocked down - a friend bought for their river cottage and something their mother could get in and this worked great.
