Poor QA at factory
Unit purchased new from Amazon, arrived with rivets and screws either outright missing or sheared off. Obviously done by someone over torquing fasteners. The hardware in the sealed blister had missing screws and one of the 4 acorn nuts wasn't tapped correctly and still had metal chips attached making it useless.
Game changer
I have a family of 8. Yes I know how it happened. Cooking before was such a daunting task. There wasn’t enough space to cook everything at one, so we’d have to eat in shifts or some of us would get cold food. Not anymore baby! This Blackstone griddle is large enough to cook for my family and the neighbors next door. With four burners I can create different heat zones and make sure everything from burgers and steaks to pancakes and bacon are cooked to perfection! Truly is a game changer.
Confusing
I see multiple 36' griddle covers but not certain which best fits mine. Am I able to purchase a hood? If so that might result in purchasing a completely different cover. Am I able to build mine out with drawers or did I need to buy the specific griddle with cabinets included? I'm not about to re-purchase so it's unfortunate if I am not able to add on. The unboxing was ok and instructions were pretty good though the hardware names didn't match instructions and left out using other nuts to install the tank kit.
Good but not great
We received this as a wedding gift. Generous!
So far so good
Just purchased this Griddle so don’t know much about it yet. Putting it together was extremely easy. Just a couple of household tools and about a half hour. It can be done by one person but the bottom tray is a little tricky you may need some help for a minute. It is hard to line up the screws with the grill laying on it’s top like suggested. I turned it on its side so I could see the holes better and that worked better.
Decision making process
My plan is to use this for camping with our RV. Because of this, I was planning on buying the smallest size. My daughter has that one, and I asked her how she liked it. She said it was too short and really needed wheels. I took her advice and bought the 36 inch griddle with wheels, I am 60 year old woman, and I just finished assembling it by myself. I can see why they suggest using two people as part of the assembly process is heavy and awkward. Overall, the assembly went fine, and I am pleased with the quality; however, I’m not sure this griddle will ever make it into the RV. It is super heavy.
Satisfied New Griddle Owner
My wife got me the 36” griddle for my birthday and so far I am very happy with it. Not too difficult to assemble and most everything seems sturdy. The paper towel holder is a little wonky. It has a feature where you can rotate it in and out for storage but I’m worried that rotating it in and out is just going to loosen the one bolt that it’s attached with. Seems like a through bolt with a lock but or something might work better, idk.
Must buy
I love how easy it was to do an at home taquiza. The setup was not hard and the seasoning part was fine- read the instructions! I picked it up so no damage was found. They do not put extra hardware so make sure not to lose any. The $297 36 inch griddle has a hard cover the $397 has a hood. If you don’t mind lifting up or completely setting aside the cover every time then get the hard cover one and save yourself that extra $. I bought the grill accessories for $20 at Walmart ( 2 bottles, 2 spatulas, 1 scraper) and ordered online the cover to protect it. Cant wait to cook again! The cleaning is easy as well.
Versatile
Very heavy, the majority of that weight is the cast iron griddle. The base seems quite sturdy though. I seasoned mine with ghee. After each use I lightly coat it with avocado oil. I love that I can cook just about anything on it. This size is obviously best for a family or groups of people, but they do make smaller ones. Love the grease catch in the back, so easy to dump out after each use. I’ll never use a regular gas grill again. My only regret is not getting the model with the lid. I keep the griddle covered when not in use (with the blackstone soft cover) but when it rains water pools on top of the cover due to the shape of the griddle. Also it needs to cool before being covered so bugs and things land on it while waiting and stick on.
Company does stand behind known product issues
Purchased 36 in griddle, model 2177 at Walmart last week for a birthday gift. There are 2 large stickers on each side shelf that take up the entire top of the shelf. One sticker came off with no issue, while the other did not. The majority of the right shelf is still covered in what did not tear off from the sticker and where the sticker did come off, adhesive is left everywhere. While I am aware of products such as Goo-gone it seems unacceptable to now take another trip to the store, purchase additional products to hopefully remedy the issue (we spent plenty on the grill & numerous accessories) and then spend time working to get this cleaned up before we can use this portion of the grill. I would be hesitant to purchase from this company again. I called customer service and they advised they have many tips & tricks to remedy the issue. Additionally, if I do scratch it up in the process, I can submit another picture of the issue and contact customer service again and they'll see what they can do.
No Good
I bought this from Lowes for my husband for Father's Day a year and a half ago. He followed all the directions, always had it covered and is under a BBQ roof area. By mid August there was rust on the base and there was trouble getting all the burners lit. I called Blackstone and spoke with Damien and he explained they had changed manufacturers, it was a cheaper material and they would replace the parts. WOW! ok, I was happy. It took months for the new parts to arrive, my husband had to take the original apart and rebuild with new parts, but it was new again. NOPE!! Once again the same thing happened. The grill surface becomes all rusty, the base is rusting and the overall quality is crap. When I called again, they told me the replacement parts were not under warranty and I was out of luck. Its a shame when something costs $600, it is literally garbage. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND A BLACKSTONE TO ANYONE. In fact, when I was in Lowes just recently, there were people looking at them and I told them of all the problems. It is garbage
Why did I wait!!!
This is a great product. I’ve actually falling in love with my 36 inch Blackstone griddle. I contemplated buying this for several months and then finally pulled the trigger for my birthday.
Missing hardware - Incredibly Frustrated
I received this 36" griddle with hard cover as my Father's Day gift the Friday before Father's Day. When I opened the box, I had absolutely none of the hardware to put it together. I was missing handles, casters, knobs...everything but the major components. Blackstone customer service is only available Monday - Friday so I had to wait all weekend before I could call them. Once I did, they were very quick to get my parts on order but informed me the casters and hard cover handles are on backorder with no ETA. I received my parts 1 day short of 2 weeks after purchase only to find 2 pieces missing that will not allow me to fully assemble my griddle AND still no ETA on backorderer parts. I can't really review the griddle itself because I can't use it yet. Incredibly frustrated!!
Didn't get what I ordered
Look, the part of the grill that does work is amazing! I've wanted one of these forever, and finally decided to buy one 3 months ago. However, one of the burners doesn't work. Support said they would get one shipped to me, but now they won't respond when I ask where it is or how long it will be. This burner is also right in the middle, so I can't really use the griddle to it's fullest potential, it would be different if it was one of the side burners. I've asked for a new burner or for my money back, but support just ignores it. If I got the whole product, I'd be giving it 5 stars! Just be weary about the customer support if anything goes wrong.
Great price but damaged product
As i got this for a great price, the box was all sealed up like all the other boxes, but when we unpacked the box, it had a lot of damage to the parts. The back where the leg connects was smashed and the front had a big gash in it and looked like someone tried to mend and painted over it. Also 2 of the knob had dents in them. I just believe where the adjusted price was should of said returned and damaged. Than i could of made the informed decision if i wanted to purchase it or not. Couldn't tell it was damaged until you got all the pieces out of the box and started to assemble it. Luckily, my husband is handy and made it work . The gentleman that helped me went over and beyond to get something to load it on and get it in my car. He didnt know it was damaged either. Great price but probably wouldnt have purchased it due to all the damage.
Terrible quality and customer service
I got the culinary model in April 2022. The base parts immediately started rusting. In November I filed a warranty claim. They told me the coating they used wasn’t good and have since used a different one. It took 3 weeks to get the warranty claim completed as they asked for pictures multiple times. At the beginning of December they said they were going to send me a new base and that I needed to take the other parts off of the existing grill to add to what they are sending. Boy that sounds fun. I have followed up with them multiple times and although they said they were shipping my replacement parts in the beginning of December, I still have seen nothing and they tell me they are still working with the parts department to get this figured out. It is now 1/11 over a month since they said they were sending the replacements. Poor quality and bad customer service, stay away.
Great for the price!
I loved the directions. Very complete.
Grill itself is is great, attachments are a joke.
Overall the grill itself is fantastic. I knocked off 2 stars for a few reasons. One, I’m a little irritated that I paid the same for this basic one as the one that come with the hard lid, as well as shelves with pegs for hanging tools and magnetic strips for hanging metal tools. Literally the same price, to the dollar. And I could swear I put the one that included the lid, fancier shelves etc in my cart when I ordered, but that’s not what showed up. The lid itself is $120 that I now have to purchase separately so I’m essentially going to be in over $400 on a $280 grill. That’s awesome.
This griddle is awesome! Will get tons of use
This griddle is so awesome. I got it for my husband and boy was he happy. He loves to barbecue and smoke meat, its his thing. But he has been wanting a Blackstone griddle for quiet some time and it has totally lived up to his expectations. Its a large station, 36 inches, and holds so much food at once. We have a big family and have everyone over almost every weekend, for dinner. This gets used often because we can cook so much at once and the food turns out so good! Its extremely easy to use. It has 4 burners to adjust the heat, and a little side tables on each side to set down whatever you need to. The food always cooks evenly, and I love that you can be making pancakes at a lower temperature on one side of the griddle, and something like bacon or home style potatoes at a much higher temperature on the other side. There is a small hole at the back of the griddle so you can push out and clean up all the grease once you are done cooking. It is quiet heavy, but it has 4 wheels so its easy to maneuver and pull around the backyard. We bought the cover for it as well and I would recommend anyone getting one of these griddles to do so. Its the perfect fit and keeps it clean since we keep this outdoors. This was a great purchase.
Amazing, but
Setup was easy. You must season the griddle top before using, but there are a lot of videos on how to season. Also, there is required cleaning after use, here is the best video I found for simple and deep cleaning (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXNhIbcmIGM). Note, you must use a commercial grade cooking scraper for cleaning, not some generic paint scraper. I bought the Blackstone Spatula/scraper set and it works amazing. The rear grease trap is great, as you push away from you, so not chance of splashing greasing on yourself or front of unit. There is a regulator issue with the propane tank where you may need to re-set, but that takes 30 seconds and no tools, here is teh video for that (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er0sOanacDs). As for cooking on unit, I would invest in a handheld temp gun, so you can find the various hot zones on the griddle. Even if you turn up all 4 burners on high, the overall griddle top will have different temperatures. I actually got the griddle top up to 600 degrees in about 15 minutes with all 4 burners on high. You can easily sear steak on this puppy. Now for the not so good: The 2 side table are somewhat of a hazard as there is a space between the griddle top and the burners, and t=excess heat escapes through these side openings and the side tabes are below these openings, so anything you you place on these tabes, like a plastic bottle holding oil, will melt. Even if the heat was not an issue, I found the side tables to low. Hope this review helps. the review looses a star due to the side table engineering
