I am a Walmart Associate. I ordered this Ecosmart Tankless Water Heater and it was delivered in the time frame specified. This product was easy to install. I am super excited to have hot water again. System is wonderful. I would of given a 5 star however the Adjustment Knob %26 Temperature Control was not in the box. Outside of that that it is awesome.
this is our second eco 18; first died of mineral deposition after 2 years of very little use in an outbuilding. the heater is fast and effective and easy to hook up and set temp. but it is also very sensitive to hard water and can plug up very quickly. a detailed read of the directions recommends flushing frequently with vinegar but it isn't clear that this would have solved our mineral deposition problems. i tried dissolving some of the material in the tubes of the first, failed heater in vinegar and little or nothing went into solution. a water softener is highly recommended by our water expert who was unsurprised by the early failure.
Still working after 10 years
We installed the ECO11 as our hot water heater here in the Florida panhandle over ten years ago and it is still working fine. It did break down at one point when the sensor that tells it the hot water has been turned on broke, but was able to order a part and fix it for about $50. We're moving to Virginia and plan on installing the ECO18 since being further north it'll have to heat the water more in the winter.
SAFETY HAZARD, DO NOT PURCHASE
The heating element of the unit caught on FIRE and created damage to the house. Luckily we smelled the burn and saw black smoke which prevented from burning down the house. I called EcoSmart three times and they just told me the unit was not under warranty. It is not the issue that the unit is not under warranty, the issue is that the unit is NOT SAFE and could have been a dramatic event if I was not lucky enough to see it. Totally unacceptable!!! DO NOT BUY, SAFETY HAZARD.
Faulty product
I purchased EcoSmart 18 water heater for apartment inside my shop at my house. I waited to have it installed while we finished updating apartment. We took it out of box and had licensed electrician install and had licensed plumber hook up water. Control panel is bad. It sat in box unused for 11 months and would honor warranty because of date of purchase was over 6 months. My bad for not registering it but it sat new in box.shouldn’t matter if it sat on my shelf or theirs.

I haven't had it installed yet as I bought it "installation included" now Home Depot is refusing to honor its website.
Do not reccomend at all.
I want to start off by saying this is now my second Eco 18kw water heater and they've both underperformed. It is advertised at 2.9 GPM and I will recieve 1.5 GPM before the unit shuts itself off @110°F. I called and the lady i spoke with was very rude but I can get passed that. I called a bit later after running a few tests for them, halfway through explaining to the new tech support agent, they hung up on me. So i decided to call again because i want answers on why my unit isn't preforming as it should. Anyhow, they forwarded my call to voicemail and refuse to talk to me. I was never rude or condescending to the representative. A horrible company that can't back their products is not what i want nor need. I'm returning this one and going with another, more reputable manufacturer.

EcoSmart makes a good tankless water heater. The EcoSmart 18 supplies my 1400 square foot home with plenty of hot water. I also purchased a small EcoSmart 8 which my Westinghouse 9500 watt generator will accommodate in case of a electrical outage. With it I can take hot showers and have hot water for washing dishes in case I need it. I purchased the two tankless water heater’s and the Westinghouse generator from Home Depot. I am very pleased with their service and products.

I’ve been installing this brand of tankless water heaters for the past 7 years. Like with any type of electrical devices you might get 1 out of 10 which shouldn’t be a problem if installed correctly.
Not for cold climates
Bought one of these online and installed it. We live in Northern New York and the unit couldn't provide enough hot water for one short shower without going cold, even during warm weather. It will eventually warm up again but only after you have been standing in a cold shower for a few minutes. The issues is the temperature of the incoming water, which remains constant year round. And it is an ENERGY HOG! Using 75 amps, it dims the lights when it comes on. Only if you live in the warmest of climates, have a 200 amp entrance and have plenty of cash for electric bills should you buy this. Gas tankless units are the way to go.

Two Issues: This is my 3rd purchase. My previous Eco18s failed for the same reason. The 1st stage heating elements burn out. The first unit's heating element lasted 2.5 years. The second unit's heating element lasted almost 2 years. Researching Eco Smarts reviews on the various sites selling their tankless water heaters show that their heating elements burning out within 2 years is a common problem. My second unit's burned out heating element will not come out of the manifold preventing replacement.
Works Great
I have had mine installed for 2 years now. Getting an electrician and a plumber to install the unit was a challenge but after that I've had no problem with it. I installed it in my 2 bedroom 2 bath condo in Austin, Texas. I also have a condo in Costa Rica and spend several months a year there. When I leave Austin I flip 2 switches (as a precaution in case of a leak). No electricity is wasted heating water while I am gone. When I return I flip the switches again and I have hot water. I was concerned about the heaters ability to provide hot water in the winter but that hasn't been an issue. I doubt that it could supply both showers simultaneously but the 30 gallon tank heater it replaced couldn't couldn't do that either. Plus the unit is small and I now have more storage space. Finally if the unit ever needs replacing I won't need a plumber to replace it.

This is probably one of the best upgrades we have done to our house. We got rid of the gas operated water heater located in the middle of our house, cut our gas usage 60% and eliminated the possibility of fire and asphyxiation from that type of water heater.

This product is a piece of junk and they will not honor the warranty. My unit developed a leak after 4 years and fried the electronics. Customer service claims I did not do adequate maintenance on the unit. I flushed the unit twice a year and cleaned it internally. This was the 3rd time I had an issue with the unit. Once the flow meter stuck and the unit did not come on. The second time the control board just quit working. This last time the water was not getting hot. I opened the unit and water poured out the bottom. When I called customer service they asked for pictures and then claimed that the green on the copper was caused by a chemical reaction and would not cover the unit. The chemical reaction was caused by the water on the outside of the pipes from the leak! My father bought the exact same product and had a leak internally within one year. They claimed he did not properly submit his warranty and would not honor his either. Be warned, if you buy this product and you have a leak, you will have to buy another unit because their lifetime warranty is like their product, junk!

After an excessively high estimate for a tankless water heater from a local home service company, I had lost hope for getting this type of power saver anytime soon. Then an acquaintance suggested I buy my own water heater and hire the plumber and electrician myself.

I have two of these installed and operating--one each in two different houses. The only problem I have had was that the internal fuse blew in both of the ECO 18s within hours of each other--Maybe at the same time since the houses are fairly close together, and the manufacturer says a thunderstorm could cause the fuse to blow.

ok people. If your going to use this as a plug in unit, FIRST you should always multiply the rated amperage 37.5 amps x 20% to find out the size breaker and wire you should be using. This =45 amps. So the next highest wire and breaker would be a #6 wire and 50 amp breaker, to be one the safe side. Use Stove plugs (pigtails)and remale stove outlets wired to unit for plug ins installed by qualified people who know what they are doing- not your DIY husband at the house. These pull a lot of current at one time as anything does that heats or cools and it can change by pulling more current if its colder at first, and there can be no mistakes in proper wiring techniques and tightening. Or the specific connectors used to attach wire by. This is especially true for anything that has a motor. These sites dont know anything about electrical NEC codes, theory, facts, wiring and fundamentals of electrical devices and their max amperage ratings. I do, been doing it for 30 years or all my life.

I installed this water heater in my 1-bathroom (single vanity and tub/shower combo) lake house about a year ago and it has completely met my expectations. Of course, we use hot water in the kitchen sink, as well, and we have a dishwasher, a clothes washer, and an outdoor shower, too. I keep the temperature set at 120 degrees and the water gets plenty hot enough to wash dishes in the sink and take a hot shower (for as long as you want, I might add.) The only performance issue I have experienced with this water heater is when I ran the water to heat it up for a shower. The outside temperature was in single digits and my water lines are in a crawl space. The water got only lukewarm flowing through the bathtub faucet and I thought something was wrong with the water heater. I eventually realized I needed to slow down the flow, so I diverted the water to the shower head and the water then heated up sufficiently to take a hot shower. This water heater is extremely well-suited for my application and I am very pleased with my purchase.

I have a small house with one bathroom located in the North West. I installed this a few weeks ago. This unit turns on with low flow and heats well as long as you aren't running more than two fixtures full hot at a time. My inlet temp is 60 deg, running one sink with a setting of 120 deg, it is perfect. Running two sinks at a time lowers output to 105 deg. I can't say the exact flow rate but would be surprised if it is over 3 gallons a minute.
