Cools good and is quiet. I don't like having to push the remote control temperature button each time to lower the degree. If you want to adjust the thermostat by 5 degrees then you have to press the up/down button 5 times. Not press it down and hold it down untill the desired temp. is displayed.
The air conditioner itself works fine.
This window AC unit itself is perfect! I needed one in my shop that has unusually small windows in it. This LG unit fits great, with a little persuasion, and does cool my 500sq ft shop very well! Delivery was another story...when I ordered and paid for it online it said next day delivery?? It didn't arrive until almost a week layer!
PRODUCT IS GARBAGE
I’ll own this crap only 3 years next month. Already broke. Doesn’t blow cold air at all. Apparently I didn’t buy the stupid protection plan so apparently I’m screwed out of $361. I’ve had other lesser known brand named A/C’s last me 15 years. Total junk from LG and Home Depot. They both should be ashamed of themselves. I shouldn’t have to have a protection plan to fix something less than 5 years old. Yet they will claim they are so climate change conscious. I give negative stars on this.

This is one kool unit. On the first day i put a bucket outside under it to protect the deck it over hangs, it literly filled a 5 gallon bucket 3/4 full. It cools two rooms but removes the humidity from the whole house making a vast improvement. If you poor white trash like us and cant afford the electric bill on central air this the next best thing only 115volts(regular outlet). These are my opion and your results may vary. Not liable for your choices buyer be ware
Quiet - but some design flaws.
As large window units go, it's pretty quiet. It blows cold air. Installation was pretty straight forward, but the lower guides are made out of plastic and the instructions state that they break easily - so, why didn't they make them out of metal? Also, the clips for the front grill are also all plastic and I broke the lower right one trying to get it off to fiddle with the power cord once I clipped it on. Otherwise, nice unit.
Very Loud Ok until Eco and Dry Modes quit working
Eco and dry modes broke quickly because unit starts up every 3 minutes for thermostat to check air temp, which is not only annoying, but obviously caused unit to burn out. Fan 1 and 2 quit, so only runs on fan 3 hurricane blow straight ac -with compressor going on/off and when comp is off it brings in humid air (think crappy beach window units), which makes a Florida room humid, so I can't use it unless a run a dehumidifer next to it. Will not buy another window ac which functions its thermostat like this.

Awful experience. No where did it say that the front face came detached from the unit. Never saw a window AC coke like that and I have bought another LG. Then the screw holes did not line up to affix the face on the unit. It came dented pretty badly on the side but my central AC unit broke and this was a temporary fix for end of summer so it will do but it is nothing but problems. It cools the room pretty well but not sure how long it will last and moving it in and out of the window is going to be difficult to try not to get hurt or drop the unit since the fac is only connected not screwed on. Was an awful ordeal and I’m overall very dissatisfied with the purchase and would recommend no one by online. In store ones were fine but at a certain time all you can get is online. Be wary
Good, not great
I purchased a year ago and just recently installed to replace an older unit. Instructions say about 1/2" drop in frame to allow for drainage. I had to modify the frame guides to get 3/8" but the unit seems to drain to the rear ok. The unit is quiet for a window unit but does not seem to cool as well as the older LG unit I pulled, same BTU rating. If you pull the guts to install the chassis first, which I did, some foam insulation at the bottom will be ripped loose when pulling out the unit. I tried to replace but when putting unit back in same issue occurred-not sure how to solve the issue. The foam insulation around the unit needs to be a denser material. I do not like the frequent cycle on off feature with this unit. The holes in the filter and the unit for the securing screws did not align so I just left them out.
Only cools down to 65 F!
I bought this a few years ago at Home Depot. I have this exact model (LW1016ER). Quality is good as one would expect from LG. Everything works good and I like the unit.
Need an engineering degree to install
Some assembly required. Have a bunch of scrap wood and screws, possibly a welder. Step one is to DISASSEMBLE THE UNIT from the chassis. Likely reason is to save a few dollars at the factory. This becomes even more ridiculous when you try to reassemble the screws into the chassis at the last step, because you will have wrestled the chassis twenty different ways into a window and bent is all askew. There is no lining the screws up, and even if you could line them up, there's no such screwdriver that will access the indoor screws.
Warning: This is meant to stay in your window year round! No good for cold climates.
I have never had such misfortune in trying to install an a/c before. First of all, the instructions are really unclear, despite my having read them over and over and over, slowly. Second of all, they don't do SIMPLE things like label the left and right sides of the brackets you need to attach. Third, there's no drainage hole, so rain and condensation just pool inside the machine. Who designed this??? Finally, the worst and most unforgivable part: you have to drill a bunch of brackets into your window jamb to keep the a/c in the window. You also need to get a separate shelf bracket because it just isn't safe without one. I have another window unit in a different brand and you just slide it into the window and close the window and plug it in and you're done. Not with this! There is measuring and pre-drilling and drilling and they expect you to put these metal brackets on the bottom of your window and then on the sides, too. If you live in an area that has 4 seasons, you DON'T want this machine. Installing it took forever, and then I have to remove all the crap that's drilled into the house to take it out of the window for the winter. The little accordion flaps and the sticky foam are not going to keep negative temperatures out. How many times will I be able to reuse the same drilled holes with these screws? When will the unit fall out of the 2nd floor window and squash my neighbor's kid? The unit works fine, but OMG I will NEVER EVER buy another LG a/c. EVER!
Powerful, Efficient and Quiet
LG 1200 BTU unit replaces a Sharp 12K BTU and we are not disappointed at all. We loved how quiet the Sharp had been and the LG is seven more more quiet. It has very little vibration and no jarring booms when compressor kicks in, all very smooth and quiet. The unit slides out of a chassis and I could mount it the same as my prior unit. The LG is more power efficient judging by how it starts up. The unit was delivered 1 week ahead of schedule right after a storm had brought down all power in the area. I had been running a portable generator and when I powered on an older refrigerator you hear it blip the generator momentarily as is strains to deliver more power. When I turned on the LG as a test, there was no strain what so ever on my generator as the compressor cycled on. It does power on the fan and after awhile it cycles the compressor on which probably reduces the initial power draw. It is very cold the energy saver mode I think is a tad overly sensitive cycling on/off too often. I run it w/o this mode. I would recommend this unit.

This appliance was just about the most disappointing purchase I've ever made. The unit needed significant installation steps, some of which felt unnecessary, but after all of this, the unit did not function. Well, it did -- but it only blew hot air. Turned it off, boxed it up, contacted customer service to see about a refund, and LG got back to me about a week later, leaving a voicemail as I missed the call. No helpful or adequate customer service to hear about this disappointment from LG, though Home Depot was helpful in getting our refund / return in the works ASAP. The unit was also enormous, and we've since bought a smaller, much more effective unit. With normal installation instructions that don't expect a customer to be comfortable pulling apart a 300$ appliance. All in all, be safe and dont buy LG products.

The problem is not with the LG A/C's I have many of them in use. The problem is with the SmartThinQ® app. Upon initial setup and the a/c is installed the app goes to the process "downloading product information" about the a/c and after many minutes times out with unable to connect to server try again later.

Excellent unit, very well constructed - copper tubing in heat exchangers, solid quality plastic in air ways, fine mesh air filter. Due to construction, it should be easy to clean as the fan/compressor unit slides out of the housing. Did I mention it is really quiet? Far quieter than my previous 8,500 BTU unit.

Incredibly time-consuming and confusing installation process. Took over an hour to do and was hard to understand. My room is smaller than the room size that it advertised, but even on 60 degrees and the fan on high, it does not cool down the room nearly enough. My BIGGEST problem is the fact that it stops blowing cold air a few hours after it being on. I wake up in the middle of the night sweating and find room temperature air blowing out. I've played with the settings, remote control, and air vent, but nothing changes. If I shut off the air conditioner for a few hours and turn it back on, it will blow cold air. This is way too much work to have to be doing for something that doesn't even work well. Very disappointed in this product.

There is good and bad with this unit. I bought it because it is supposed to be quieter than any comparable unit. It is quiet, and I would say the noise is also lower in frequency than most A/Cs have seen. The installation includes a lightweight shell to put in the window, then you slide in the heavy unit. This is a good idea. They got the bellows window fill panels half right; there is a tab to secure them to the window sill. The tab should be on the side instead, and also is a spade, not a round hole. Now the bad: 1. while quiet, the Temp readout is incredibly bright. The idea was to have something that doesn't disturb my sleep. Well, now I can stay up late and read books at night. I will have to cover it with dark tape, how useless. 2. the installation was incredibly and unnecessarily difficult. I have lots of experience with window frames and air conditioners, but most people will have a hard time interpreting the directions. Usually, when parts are designed to fit multiple ways, but work only in a particular way, there is an illustration or other indication of assembly. Not so here. The instructions border on the insane, for example: do not mix different battery types in the remote (alkaline or rechargeable, for example). The remote only holds ONE battery. There is an adhesive backed, thin gasket. Looks like EPDM or maybe silicone. It disintegrates with no effort. If you choose to use it, peel off no more than 1 inch of the backing at a time (not what they recommend) or you will have a mess. It is extremely sticky. It will be a permanent addition to your window, whether you want it or not. It is unnecessary in most cases, but might help a better seal if you are really determined. I suggest putting it on the frame, not the window, if you so choose. 3. the braces to support the frame on the sill only work if you have a particular type of one piece sill. You can still get some other support if you can access the window from the outside after installation. I decided it was unnecessary, as the weight is fairly well balanced on the sill anyways, so the force on the sash is minimal. 4. As others have noted the plastic guides are, well, plastic and fragile. They worked okay for me, but I was forewarned to be careful. 5. the front grille attaches to the frame, not the main unit, after installation. So? Well, it snaps into the frame. I hope it can be unsnapped for removal without breakage. It is required that the front grille be removed in order to dismount the unit from the window. It also includes a small plug in to the header on the unit for the electronics. While seemingly adequate, I am dubious about the service life since it doesn't look as if it is designed to be cycled very often, if at all. 6. The instructions say to secure the filter with screws. There is no way to do this. 7. the screws provided do not include a hole size to drill, nor an indication of the presumably metric dimensions, so you have to wing it. 8. Included is a drain plug. This is very odd. The unit is designed with a pan in the bottom to collect water condensed from the air. Now a fan picks up some water and slings it at the fins to cool them by evaporative cooling, not a bad idea. The overflow with this design will run down the lowest point on the pan, which depends upon your tilt at installation. The drain plug changes that so that the water runs out at that point. So, you ask? The real point of the plug is that it provides a barbed fitting so you can attach a Tygon drain tube to it. This would be useful if installed over a doorway, for example, so it wouldn't drip on your people. This was not indicated in the manual. 9. The main units secures in the shell with two small screws. I have my doubts as to how long those threads will last, and they are fairly essential to hold it securely. 10. they say they want you to plug it directly into an outlet, but the cord is way too short for that. My heavy duty extension cord works just fine. It's only a bit over 800W
Cool and quiet room..
I've been using a portable a/c unit in our bonus room for a few years now, and although it did work, it was inefficient and loud.

I thought the slide-out chassis on this air-conditioner would be great as I could remove it and hose the rear fins off to minimize corrosion from salty ocean air. Well, the chassis slides out just fine, but the LG design of the chassis and surrounding "box" is poor at best. There is no floor to the box - the bottom of the chassis becomes the floor of the box when slid in, but it also leaves large gaps for air, insects and whatever else. While running the unit, I noticed a few drops of water - from the screw holes that mount the internal components - and pierce the bottom of the chassis. Really? Screws in the bottom of something designed to capture water removed from inside the home? The fan itself is quiet, but as others have mentioned, the difference between low and high is not very dramatic and the compressor makes a rhythmic vibration that's pretty annoying. The remote is practically useless as you have to be almost close enough to push the buttons yourself. Not a very impressive air-conditioner in my opinion.
