[Rewarded Review] Great refrigerator for the price
This is a great, inexpensive refrigerator. It is extremely quiet when running, an absolute godsend after the high pitched whine of my last one. It almost has too much space for me, although it is several cubic feet less than my previous side by side model. I chose not to get an ice maker, since I don't entertain much, so it is actually difficult to fill the freezer as I live alone. The body of the refrigerator is equally as capacious, especially the long, deep door racks. The only cautions I have is that using the inside water dispenser is a little tricky to avoid water spills. I have found that holding the glass in my right hand while pressing the dispenser keeps the glass from slipping away from the dispenser, thereby causing a spill. The other caution is mentioned in other reviews. The door extends much lower than other refrigerator doors. The first time I opened it, I stood too close and wacked my right big toe. It was definitely one trial learning. I quickly learned to stand a little sidewise when opening the bottom door. All in all, I feel that this was an excellent decision to purchase this LG. I have only had it for about a month, so I can't speak to its reliability over time.
Internal Water Dispenser Drips Condensation
We have had our fridge for about 2-3 weeks now and I can say with certain I wish we did not have one with the internal water dispenser. Our fridge is the garage which is obviously subject to warmer temps and more humidity than inside the house. Since the first week we got the fridge I noticed there was slight water drops in the fridge, and I I did not think much of it at first suspecting it was from something that had water on it when put into the fridge. Two more weeks have gone by and I notice that there’s puddles under the water filter and area to have water come out. It is surely from condensation which is extremely frustrating since it will happen after we have not opened the fridge for a day or so. We also do not have a water line hooked up yet so there is no way that it could be dripping excess water. For a “garage ready” fridge I would have expected a lot more and now wish we had gone with a completely different model as I know this is only going to get worse since we are not even in the most humid time of year.
Don't panic
Initial cooldown takes several hours. That is normal.
Great refrigerator at a good price!
Bought it one day. Lowe's delivered it the next. They were 3 minutes earlier than the 4 hour block they gave us. Delivery crew unloaded, completely unpacked all the film and packing on it, plugged it up, and loaded our old one. They were very nice and thorough! Day after delivery in a 90 degree garage, set at the recommended settings, it is right in the recommended temps on our thermometer. Also, today, I got a text from LG USA checking to see if I had any questions! I have never had a company follow up like that before. I would highly recommend this fridge.
Switching door opening swing direction.
Received the fridge by the delivery crew. Once the left we decided we needed to change the swing direction that the doors open from the left to the right. Pulled out the owners manual and read the instructions. The instructions were a little hard to follow but showed what needed to be done. The problem we encountered was that some of the holes for the hinge attachment point on the doors were not predrilled and the screws were not self drilling. I had to drill the myself. On the bottom hinge piece that went on the lower door there were 2 screws missing per the diagram in the owners manual. I had to go to the Hardware Store to purchase a couple of screws. The biggest problem was with the phillips headed trim screws that were on the hinge pieces tat went onto the refridgerator case. The were tightened way to tight at the factory. I had to place the back of the fridge against a wall, clamp a pair of vice grips on the screwdriver shank and press as hard as I could against the back of the screw driver while turning the vice grips to loosen the screws. My guess is that the average home owner would not be able to loosen those screws. I thought LG was a great company that has changed based on this experience.
Worthless Warranty
Not until after two days did the freezer malfunction apperar with built up frost which made the freezer door hard to close as we had to keep scaping off built up frost. . We tried to return it to Lowes and they refused as they said it had to be returned within 48 hours . Absurd, as it did not malfunction until after 48 hours. Lowes told us to contact LG which we have done on four separate occasions only to get a run around. LG said they would authorize a repair as it was under a one year warranty and that they wouls send a rapir technician. Then LG notified us that they could not locate a repair technician (Ridiculous). What that means is that LG's Warranty is Useless and has No Value. A huge disappointment and we are stuck with a malfunctioning LG refrigerator. Lowes and LG have lost a customer.
[Rewarded Review] Design flaw in shelves
Bought a little over a year go. Two of the large glass shelves have failed, broken at the plastic edge. The plastic literally crumbled. Obviously a design or manufacturing issue with the plastic. LG would not replace, said I could buy replacements for 100 dollars each. They said this happens sometimes when the shelves are overloaded, which they were not. By the way, these shelves were back ordered over a month, which implies this happens so often they cannot keep the replacement shelves in stock. Their customer service is worthless.
Spacious refrigerator freezer
This is a great refrigerator. Large capacity 24 cu ft. Very large freezer space will accommodate anything you want to put into it. The refrigerator section is large too. It has a lot of rpom for whatever you want and there is 2 storage drawers too. It's nice to have a water dispenser in a top mount refrigerator. It doesn't come with a ice maker but there is one available and it's listed in the operator manual. The smooth stainless steel finish looks great and is easy to take care of.
[Rewarded Review] Very pleased with this refrigerator
After doing some research on efficient refrigerators that met our interior cubic space requirements and budget, this one fit the bill. It is 3" less in width than the GE French Door model we had (which stopped cooling our food!) yet had more interior space.
Thrilled with the space!!
Replacing a massive side by side with no interior room, we are thrilled with the space in this fridge- and expansion in the kitchen to boot. Old fridge was packed to the gills, pics show extra room after filling the LG with what we had. So much room for activities! I mean- produce! The butter shelf has a lip so the sticks don’t fall out, a small detail that’s greatly appreciated. I love the capacity of the door shelving; I was able to fit all of our condiments/sauces AND 2 liter drinks with extra space. I should add, This is *actual* stainless, I was disappointed I couldn’t hang magnets on the doors. Aside from that, I’m elated I won’t have to play grocery JENGA again.
[Rewarded Review] Simple and durable garage fridge
I was looking for a simple refrigerator for my garage for extra items and large containers of kimchi. I was tired of buying used and getting duds. So far this is doing well. Lot's of room in the fridge. It does take some getting use to the freezer on the top but I am able to get all my items in. I did have a week where I had some vegetables go bad quickly and some items froze in the back but it was the settings being too cold and the drawers not set for vegetables. After I modified things have been better. Dislikes - the wheels on the bottom are in different places so I see one side and the other side is setback. It's small but I notice it since it sits on a ledge in the garage. I also do not need the water line since I have in the garage. Likes - was able to move the doors to open the other side so I could avoid a wall. Simple design great for a second fridge.
Disappointed with options
It is not anywhere near as nice as the 36x33x68 refrig we had but on the other hand 20 years laters and it was only 1/3 the cost. For the space I have this seemed to be the best option. It works fine and looks fine.
Has not worked out
6 mo. old so still under warranty thankfully. Occasional water dripping out filter/filter housing. Phone support just says keep trying different water filter. Filter #2 did not fix. Tech opens up the housing assembly for the filtered water dispenser/ filter housing and filter and there's standing water in there, which should not be. Replaces a valve in there as well as the filter housing and then goes to put it back and sees water coming in to the fridge from the brackets that hold the housing in place in the back. He calls LG. Checks the defrost drain/line, and all seems well with that. So no real answer to the water dropping from the brackets. Now today we have water on the floor. Tech coming again today. I suspect some problem w/ the defrost/drain but the line was clear and there was water in drip pan (tech checked this on visit #1). So, no, we are not looking to get another LG. This is a lot of work for us and tech for a 6 mo. old unit.
Cant install icemaker with water dispenser
Like the refrigerator basically, but who lives these days without an icemaker? Purchased it along with the icemaker that LG and Lowes recommend for the refrigerator. 2 months ago. Bought this frig specifically because it has an internal cold, filtered water dispenser like our previous top freezer - and could easily add an icemaker. Neither I nor the Lowes installer, nor the LG Tech support have figured out how to install the icemaker along with the internal water dispenser (the latter came connected from the factory on this model and was a breeze to hook up). All of the directions and online videos show installation of the icemaker in an LG WITHOUT a water dispenser. The icemaker parts overlap with the dispenser parts so you cant have both with what is there - it appears. Spent 4 hours over 2 days struggling with LG Tech support. Many more hours back and forth with Lowes. Bottom line is they (LG) wont support this at all and send out a tech under warranty to resolve. They have not said it cannot be done. I have to pay for a technician if they can figure it out. Their fridge, their recommended icemaker, and their directions. My problem? Lowes has just volunteered to pay for the tech call but I am afraid there is no answer and it wont work. How will a local technician help when LG cant tell me how to do it, and will the fix void the warranty since it would not be to factory directions.
Very happy with this refrigerator; so far, so good
This is replacing a Maytag that gave us excellent service for some 30 years. So that’s what I’m comparing this LG to.
only option in town
Sadly, this is the only option for a large top freezer refrigerator. It is seriously lacking in shelf space and far fewer shelves than previous models. We previously owned a GE of similar size that was able to more effectively store food (I was quite sad to learn GE no longer makes a large top freezer refrigerator). There is no drawer for deli items. Half shelves in the refrigerator and freezer would be nice. There is even less storage on the door than previous models. It can also be loud (makes a whistling sound from time to time) This makes it not optimal for having it near places where you would like quite, like watching TV. The door has this special feature. If it is a few inches from being closed, it doesn't close itself. There is some sort of brake on the door. This has caused the door to remain ajar more than once. (What a stupid solution for keeping the door from slamming shut.) Whoever thought the water dispenser was a good idea should be fired. If you are not careful, it is very easy to bump turning on the water. It should be imbedded in the wall so you actually have to push a glass against it or push a button. The mechanism takes up quite a bit of room. I assume this is to make it easier to replace the filter, but really wastes a lot of space and was poorly thought out.
