We love this!
I contacted premium home source about what size I needed, I got a response within a hour which I would assume was after hours and they recommended the 18k. Well I up sized to the 24k 4th gen just because I figured up sizing couldn’t hurt. I was impressed on how easy it was to install. My father in law and I had this up and going in less than 2 hrs on and a Friday. Super quiet and cool the house down quickly. Wish I would have bought it sooner! Thanks
Died after 2years 3months
It was easy to install, and it worked great for just over 2 years. The suddenly it stopped working. No error codes, refrigerant has pressure, everything seems fine except for the compressor which will not run. I looked for a run capacitor, but there does not seem to be any. The way it is built it looks like it is a nightmare to service, e.g. it is very tricky to get access to the control board.
Trash
I installed this thing about a month ago. It worked fine until today when I woke up to my breaker being tripped. When I tried to turn it back on, it immediately trips again. There's a short somewhere inside of the outdoor unit and its completely unusable. I checked the wiring to the unit and there's no issues. Stay away. This thing is trash.
DIY+ a professional
If you are buying this to replace a mini split you may want to hire a professional. The electrical requirements for the wire gauge in the instructions doesn’t match the requirements on the actual unit. If you choose to DIY this get a pipe bender and torque wrench. The instructions have so many warnings it’s intimidating even for handymen. If you mess up warranty voided.
"Mr Cool Mini Split: Unmatched Comfort and Efficiency!"
I recently purchased the Mr Cool Mini Split System, and I'm thrilled with its performance! Premium Home Source was excellent with communication and delivery. The installation was a breeze, and the system quickly transformed my space into a comfortable oasis. The sleek design and quiet operation exceeded my expectations. It's energy-efficient and provides precise temperature control. I highly recommend the Mr Cool Mini Split for anyone looking for a reliable and efficient heating/cooling solution.
This thing will die fairly quickly
Bought in August 2023. App goes out of sync with the unit quite regularly. Could only use the remote control. By October 2023 we couldn't feel hot or cold air coming out of the unit. Troubleshooted and no leaks. Warranty is non-existent. It's very likely that the refrigerant is going to have to be recharged after < 2 months of install time and only a few days of actual use. Guess what isn't covered :) Have to pay an AC person to fix. Learn from my mistake, spend 1-2k more for something reliable.
Efficient and Reliable
This DIY mini-split heat pump system has transformed our home's heating and cooling experience. The 24k BTU capacity provides ample power to cool or heat medium-sized rooms effectively. The system operates quietly, ensuring a peaceful environment. We've noticed a significant decrease in our energy bills since installing it, thanks to its high energy efficiency. However, installation can be a bit challenging for those without prior experience.
Quiet Operation
One of the standout features of the DIY 4th Generation E Star mini-split heat pump system is its quiet operation. The indoor and outdoor units produce minimal noise, ensuring a peaceful living environment. Even at the highest fan speed, the noise level is bearable. We appreciate this feature, especially during nighttime. The system's cooling and heating capabilities are excellent, providing consistent comfort throughout the year.
Great Value for Money
The DIY 4th Generation E Star mini-split heat pump system is an excellent investment. It offers fantastic performance at a reasonable price. We appreciate its eco-friendly features, such as the R410A refrigerant, which reduces environmental impact. The unit is energy efficient, which translates to savings on our monthly bills. The installation process was straightforward, with clear instructions provided. Overall, a solid product that won't break the bank.
Impressive Performance
We've been using the DIY 4th Generation E Star mini-split heat pump system for over a year, and we're impressed with its performance. It effectively cools our rooms during scorching summers and keeps us warm during chilly winters. The system operates quietly, allowing us to sleep peacefully at night. The unit's reliability and durability have been remarkable so far. However, professional installation is recommended for optimal performance.
Just installed this morning!
The unit was turned on for the 1st time and boy it was so quiet I literally had to make sure the fan was spinning outside. the unit and air handlers cool very quickly. I also tested the heating it worked superb. I wont be using this until summer time gets here honestly. that's my main purpose for purchasing it. Living in the deep south requires good A/C. Premium Home Source customer service is also top notch. I would recommend anyone to give them a try. THEY ROCK!
Best $ spent in a long time
Best $ spent in a long time. Super easy install even for this 62 y.o. female. Had to have grandsons lift the units up in place but if you can read you can install this yourself. If I could change anything I would make a simpler remote with an on/off, temp up / down button and mode. I won't be using the sleep or other features the unit offers and those buttons are just cluttering up the remote. The overall system works fantastic though - couldn't be happier with the cooling - and the system is very VERY quiet
One of the best purchases I've ever made
I'm renovating an older house built in 1966. The house had central air but the duct work was disgusting. Moldy and filled with dog hair. I removed all the ducting and the air handler. I got some bibs on replacing the central air and was blown away by how much it would cost. We had been using portable ac units but my wife and I could not stand the noise and the vent going out the window. Being a DIY kind of guy, I decided to try mini split units but was not sure if they would do the job. I bought this unit and I couldn't believe how easy it was to install. I worried that it would still be noisy. Boy! was I wrong! We pleasantly surprised to see how quiet it was. It cooled the room quickly and easily. We liked it so much that we bought another unit for the garage. I highly recommend These units and intend to buy several more for other rooms.
Easy to install - happy with the units!
Installation from start to finish is simple and straight forward. My hardest part was determining exactly where I wanted to install the unit. I opted to use the full 25 feet of line set as to not have it bundled which is ok to do but I'm a stickler for a smooth finish look. I would also suggest making a punch list before you begin. I choose to pour a slab for the outside unit instead of the bracket mount or other options for my install. It truly is DIY if you have knowledge doing any electrical safely and by code. My installation took a little longer than Mr Cool's video (recommend) did but only because I ran in to a triple wall stud drilling my through wall hole for the line set. Again, it's straight forward and the end results were a room staying at very cold temperature with little to almost no noise. My ceilings fans have a higher hum than this unit. The outside is just as quiet, you have to see the fan turning to know it's running. It's only been running for a month but I feel confident it'll last. Also made a couple calls to them for clarification and they picked up the phone immediately and answered my question.
Great DIY Mini Split system
The Mr Cool system is unbeatable as a DIY guy. I was leary since I have no HVAC experience but after watching others do the install on you tube I decided I could do this! The units arrived really fast from Premium Home Source and I immediately noticed how professionally the components were packed. You could easily tell that Mr Cool takes pride in their product. Installation was rather easy following the instrictions and watching videos along the way. After completion, the unit works like a champ. I installed the the 12k unit in the 400 sf bedroom and it works quiet and efficient. Spring in Ohio has its ups and downs temperature wise so weve already used both the heat and cool functions and I am pleased to announce that my Mr Cool performed both flawlessly. I am so happy with this unit that I am going to purchase another bigger unit for our great room. I highly recommend Mr Cool. Save big money and do it yourself!
PULL THE TRIGGER! Best Decision!
If you are hesitating this purchase, PULL THE TRIGGER! This A/C unit was a saving grace for my family. Our house is older and didnt have very good ducting throughout, which is why we decided to try a split type system. My only regret is not doing this sooner!! Both the outdoor and indoor systems are SUPER quiet (you barely even notice they are one- especially the outdoor unit). It keeps my home a comfortable 71 F now, compared to the 84-86 it would normally be in the house all day long (outside roughly 91-100 F). I havent had the opportunity to review the heating, but will update that later.
Best system to buy after all my research
I had done a lot of research before I purchased this unit. I was concerned primarily about the installation but it was rather easy. Perhaps the easiest part was ordering it from Premium Home Source. Other retailers were telling me it would be months before they could get it. Premium Home Source delivered it to me in less than 2 weeks. I like the fact that this is the only unit that is a true DIY. You should have an electrician put in the electrical disconnect per your local building codes. The rest is really easy. We have had this mini split for a few weeks now but the weather is really mild so it has not been put to the test yet. One of the last steps in the installation process was to turn the thermostat to it extremes and let it run for a few minutes. The air coming out of the unit was really cold when set to AC and then nice and toasty when set to HEAT. I think this is going to work just fine for our converted attic space. Really happy with these units and the sales team at Premium Home Source
Fabulous HVAC option
I purchased a Mr Cool for our vacation home as a solution to not only increase efficiency but to gain control over the internet of the temperature, allowing us to turn off the system when we arent there, but have it ready for when we do arrive. The system absolutely has exceeded my expectations. Installation was a breeze compared to what you would expect. It did need two people and wasnt easy but certainly DIY. The system performance has been nothing short of remarkable. Weve had cool nights and hot days and the Mr Cool has kept our cabin at a perfect temperature range the entire way. And I just got our first bill... we used only $15 more than last summers 2-month bill when we didnt even have AC! Fantastic. Mr. Cool is great enough Id consider swapping our primary homes main HVAC system for room-by-room mini splits!
It has been getting hotter year after year in my home. Window units weren't cutting it anymore. M...
I live in a 1920's brick and slate bungalow. I got tired of installing and removing a 10K window unit weighing 80lbs. But I didn't have the money for central air ductwork and I did not have extra capacity on my electric panel to add a 60 amp 220v breaker. The Mr Cool DIY wall mounted units made the most sense. I did need to hire a handyman to use a hammer-drill to get through the brick. But everything else, I did myself. After installation, at first I thought it wasn't working because it's so quiet. For reference, my table top fan is louder than this system, that is how quiet it really is. I got a chance to really test things out yesterday as the outdoor temperature soared to 91 degrees. I wasn't expecting weather like this so soon but I am glad to report that the Mr. Cool mini-split ran like a champ. In fact, it didn't seem stressed at all. I warned my neighbor that the outdoor unit might disturb her but when I went outside to listen, it was hardly louder than the indoor unit! I haven't installed the smart phone app yet so I can't report on that. However, I am really happy with this system since a homeowner can install it themselves, saving money. This was the right decision. Thank you Premium Home Source for helping me purchase this unit
Not really a DIY but pretty close
lets be honest here this is NOT a DIY system. its a 90% DIY system. if you are not an electrician then you are stuck. sure you can go to youtube school and watch tons of videos but never really find exactly what and how do install the electric properly. I had to have somone do this for me.
