GREAT SHARPENER!
I was completely SHOCKED at how well this knife sharpener worked on my knives! They are as sharp as razor blades now! I wish that I had found this gem sooner!
Great sharpener
Does a nice job of sharpening. Easy to use. Made for any knife that has a straight blade. Was wonderful to have sharp knives to use while cooking.
Very easy to use and works well. Had all the knives sharpened, which saved money instead of getting them sharpened through stores. Chair than buying new knives. Good product for keeping the knives sharp.
Happy for 20 years!
I have enjoyed my Presto Professional EverSharp for over 20 years. This is an indispensable tool in m opinion. I used to sharpen all my knives with a set of metal files and then a honing stone for maximum sharpness. But now for two decades I have found that this tool does an equal job in one tenth of the time. I have found that there are a few spots on the bottom of the device that can get hot if you sharpen a lot of knives sequentially. Be careful. I also find a few metal filings can gather on the counter around the device and that it is easy to wipe these up with a damp cloth. This devise is outstanding for me and it gets an A+ rating.
This is the forth one of these we have purchased....One for ourselves and three others for gifts. It's one of those products that seem to be addictive....When you first get it you go around the house looking for everything that needs sharpening. And, it does a super job. Thankfully, we now use ours only once a month or so. Everything stays nice and sharp....
I would buy this product again, 'cept I awlready got one.
This is a knife sharpener. I sharpen knives with it. All diff kinds, and it does that very well. Good price, too. I am excited to get more knives. d
Perfect Results Every Time
This Presto Professional Electric Knife Sharpener is perfect at sharpening our knives. The included instructions were easy to follow, resulting in nicely sharpened knives. We cook everyday so our knives get a workout and we aren't as strong as we use to be so this electric sharpener is easy on our bodies and our knives. Worth every penny, with perfect results every time.
Finally a well made and effective knife sharpener
Overall, I like it very much. Although made of plastic, it's meaty, and weighty and when running it's smooth and quiet, and when switched off it keeps spinning for several seconds just like my bench grinder in my shop. The only part that I think could have been engineered better are the orange guides which move to adjust the angle of the grind. Once selected, I would think they shouldn't "give" so easily; that is, with very little pressure against them, they move, altering the angle of the grind too easily. It would have been better if the guides would remain fixed at the adjusted angle, to allow for better and more consistent grinding angle. I adapted to this however, by using very careful and light pressure against the guides, making a conscious effort to maintain the original angle. The quality of the grinding wheels is very good, and they should remain effective for many years. I was successful in yielding very sharp edges from a wide variety of knives from cleaver to pocket types, Santoku to chef style to steak knives, from high carbon (non-stainless) to stainless. BTW, I had recently received a different sharpener by a big producer of electric sharpeners which was similar but very inferior in quality and performance which actually "locked up" and wouldn't restart, which I promptly returned. It was $30 higher in price, and not worth anything in real usefulness. Glad I found the Presto, and I have confidence that it will perform for many years. Oh, also it literally won't move when in use, as those suction cups really hold it on our granite top, whereas I couldn't say the same with the previous one that I returned, which required holding it with one hand at all times.
I went back and forth on this knife sharpener and finally decided on the 16th of Dec (this year 2021) The 3 sets arrived on the 22nd and I couldn't believe it with shipments not getting to stores and all. The 3 son in laws were really happy as they had been using mine that my Dad and Mom got us (different make) 35 years ago! The Presto did a little more than mine did but the reviews were good so I ordered them. Now everyone's knifes are sharp in the family.
Patience helps when sharpening dull knives
This sharpener does well enough on knives that are still fairly sharp and are being regularly maintained with this sharpening tool. Any knives that are in need of restoring a very dull edge takes quite a few repetitions pulling it through the guide opening for the sharpening stones. Regular everyday use, no problem. More intensive repair to dull blades can be achieved only after a lot more effort and time are spent to do what other electric sharpeners have done much quicker.
A Good Knife Sharpener.
Good, though not great. First, I am using the knife sharpener on stainless steel knives; they are harder to sharpen really well than the old carbon steel knives I used to have, and, I run out of patience with the chore. For regular kitchen use, the sharpener is very adequate, quick and easy to use. Well built, and worth every penny. Also, I will get better at using it as I us it more. No going back to an oil stone for me. It does a good job of getting the edge angle right for most uses. I am pleased with my purchase.
My sharpener arrived on time. When I opened the carton pleased to see how well built it is.
It takes practice to stay sharp!
This sharpener can put a good edge on your knives. However, it does require a very light touch and attention to keeping the knife gently flat against the guide. I think the problem some have reported with 'binding' and 'gouging' are, in fact, operator errors applying too much pressure. Easy does it. Two or three light passes produced a reasonably good edge on all my kitchen knives which were really, really dull.
Like it but need to get used to the angling
I've used this a few times already and like it so far. After having dull knives for a long time, I'm happy about having them sharp again. The one thing I haven't gotten used to is how to angle the knives when sharpening. The sound of grinding changes when changing the angle and not sure if I'm doing them right. I guess i need more practice.
AOK For The Price
I can't compare this to other electric sharpener's because I have never had one but this works AOK. A few swipes and most knives I have felt pretty sharp again. More work if dull. I'm sure manual tools would do a better job but I never mastered them and that is why I bought this. There is probably better out there for more money but for the price I'm happy with it. Knowing what I know now after using it I would buy it again.
Presto Professional EverSharp Three-Stage Electric
The Presto Professional EverSharp Three-Stage Electric Knife Sharpener is very inexpensive when compared to other, similar sharpeners. It does sharpen knives, but it relies a great deal on operator skill. The blade must be held just right. The amount of pressure and the duration of each sharpening pass all impact results.
Presto Pro EverSharp a welcome addition.
This table top knife sharpener is an excellent value for its price point. It has three stages to handle neglected knives to well maintained ones. The final stage is used to maintain and hone. The grinding wheels are the dry type and are not user replaceable but at the price point, that may not matter. The position guides are on the last two stages and are colored orange. Using the machine does take some practice as you need to focus on keeping the blade against the guides and the blade tip tangential to the table surface. The instructions are pretty good. The only real negative is the electrical cord is short so you need an extension or have to locate it near an electrical receptacle. Works with most knives but does not take scissors. There are debris trays that need to be emptied about once per year, per the instructions. Motor and noise levels are decent. Recommended process is three passes for each side of knife at 1" per half second. Sharpen a knife in less than a minute once you get the hang of it. Would recommend for an average kitchen "chef".
I would not buy this sharpener if you are a serious cook
I received this sharpener, used it on all of my kitchen knives except for my most expensive ones....its not great.
It's better than getting brand new knives.
I had old cheap Walmart knives that were dull and I was considering spending some decent money on a really good set of knives. Bet reading reviews on even the top-of-the-line knives left me worried that I would be wasting my money. Instead I bought this knife sharpener to see if I could bring my old ones back to life. WOW! All my knives are now razor sharp and I didn't have to spend a fortune. It was super easy to sharpen them and it feels like I have brand new knives. Even my serrated bread knife was easily sharpened. The best part - when they eventually get dull again - I just sharpen them again - for free. I am so glad I didn't blow a bunch of money on overpriced knives that apparently all need to be "babied". I definitely recommend this product.
My first knife sharpener - so far, so good
I only gave this 4 stars because I don't have any experience with anything to which I could compare this product. It matches the description, seems to work well, although I'm understanding that there is a "technique" that I probably don't quite have mastered... yet. It's simple to use, and "less is more" when it comes to applying pressure and getting the correct angle, etc. I like that it has adjustable width/angle settings - this feature seems to make sense to me and I noticed that cheaper units generally do not include this - but, again, I've never used any other sharpener so it's hard to say if this is really a needed feature. The instructions mention that some knives are ground and sharpened differently than what and how this machine operates - and that those knives will require repeated grinding to conform to the type of edge produced here (they mention that some may have to be run through the 3-step process as many as 10 times before you achieve a desirable edge that can be kept sharp with this machine). I've used it on a pocket knife, and 3 kitchen/cooking knives so far and it has worked very well - I encountered no problems and the knives came out great. Although I haven't tried it yet, the instructions also say that it will work on serrated knives, but only on the "flat" side and that you could eventually grind the saw tooth pattern off of the knife blade. This machine will not do scissors, but I knew that, so as far as doing the job it was designed to do, it seems to work well (and the sale price was irresistible)
